Some semi-decent data on the subject
    # Dec 27 2007 at 11:28 AM Rating: Decent
Seeing as nobody is willing to take the time, I've gone and did a quick bit of research on the matter.

    Fishing level 30:
    Location: Knightwell (West Ronfaure)
    Pole: Halcyon Rod
    Lure: Robber Rig
    Casts: 244
    Items: 231
    Fish: 8
    Nothing: 5

    Location: Knightwell (West Ronfaure)
    Pole: Composite Rod
    Lure: Robber Rig
    Casts: 286
    Items: 229
    Fish: 53
    Nothing: 4

    Fishing level 40:
    Location: Knightwell (West Ronfaure)
    Pole: Halcyon Rod
    Lure: Robber Rig
    Casts: 319
    Items: 272
    Fish: 44
    Nothing: 3

    Location: Knightwell (West Ronfaure)
    Pole: Composite Rod
    Lure: Robber Rig
    Casts: 191
    Items: 122
    Fish: 62
    Nothing: 7

    Conclusion:
Yes, you can catch fish with this item.
Yes, your level does make a difference in bite-rate
Yes, different rods do make a difference

Weird enough, but only with Composite did Red Terrapins ever even bite. On the other hand, only with Halcyon did Crayfish ever bite.
I didnt release a single catch, except for monsters.
I wouldnt suggest using this lure ever, if yourgoal is to single out a specific fish. Maybe around lvl 80+ the bite rates will be sufficient enough to try single out any specific catch, but even so, this lure is designed for catching mostly anything that exists in any particular spot.
Your level and gear will determine what bites and what doesnt.

This lure is used to fish up clams and shall shells. Not fish. You wanna catch fish u use a sabiki rig because it doesnt fish the bottom. And rogue rig is used only by pro fishers.

actually, i've found the robber rig useful in fishing up rusty leggings in north san d'oria in front of the castle. I'm not sure about the leggings, you might wanna double check on that... but last i checked rusty subligars sold for about 8k a piece because of the ninjutsu quest thingy in norg. Considering they want you to hand over 10 of the abnoxious little panties, the investment might be worth it to a ninja. IMO anyway....

lol i was just joking dont eather one of them cause they both suck really bad... if your looking for a lore then sabiki rig should do the trick manly in salt waters other then that just buy live bait for fresh water!

Actually ... there are lures for freshwater fishing.

I just because you haven't figured out the requirements of making these items useful, it does not mean "they both suck really bad."

ok this is what i think...
Rogue Rig is use for salt water fish
Robber Rig is use for Fresh water fish

cause i have problem useing the Rogue Rig when i was fishing in an frash water areas... all i fish up was nothing but items.

by the way the rod i was useing was Halcyon Rod and Mithran Rod. i like the Halcyon Rod better cause the fishing struggle is 3x long then when i was useing Mithran Rod...

    Here's what I've heard...

You catch more fish with Robber than Rogue. Rogue has a wider variety of fish it can catch, but the bite rate of fish is extremely low.

In other words, Robber is better at catching Shall Shells and Vongola Clams, and Rogue is better at catching Rusty items.
    Epiphany^^

Just an observation my husband made after I read these posts aloud to him. We were wondering what the difference between the Robber and Rogue Rigs were (besides one being luminescent) and after reading about how terrible of a time the majority of the posters had with the Robber Rig (the luminescent one), and how Valhallodin noted that perhaps the luminescent one is so deep water fish can see it... perhaps the posters had such a hard time catching moat carp because the Robber Rig IS made for deep water fish? and moat carps are not deep water fish? Not sure, but it makes sense^^

I have to say this... and I am gonna be blunt... YOU ARE ALL FULL OF IT! There is no chance of catching a carp anywhere with this rig. I have had it for a month... it batrly catches Rusty Caps! I use Rogue Rig for that... In all my days as a fisher, and I am lvl 49 fishing now... I have only caught 6 moats on a Rogue Rig, and 0 on a Robber.

I'm going to have to agree, my ls mate told me to get this for only 1500 guildpoints, so I did and we both tried it in all places we usually fish. With level 32 fishing skill, at the time, I was not catching anything, not even bites. I switch back to insect paste and immediately catch a moat carp. My ls mate also gave up after hours of catching nothing with this rig.

If you wanna fish for moats cheap, take little worms to La Theine Plateau, the little ponds are full of moats, insect paste here will not catch any thing, take cheap little worms and have a good time.

With these Rigs (Rouge too) you have to be many many many levels higher then the fishes skill. They might have also made it higher especially for moats since they sell for so much. My friend, who was lvl 49 fishing at the time did about five casts with the rig and got a moat, a giant catfish and a dark bass. Me being at 31 fishing have caught 2 giant catfish, 3 red terrapins and about 5 moats.

I just bought this Rig... and am pretty... well... not satisfied. I mean... I have casted my line 112 times... caught 3 Rusty Buckets, 2 Crayfish, 3 Rusty Caps, and 1 Sandfish in Rabao. Not even a single bite from a Moat Carp. I was pullin in 5 stacks out of every 10 stacks of Insect Paste out here, along with 5-10 caps... so what did I just spend 20k on?

I am gonna run to North Gus, and see what kind of Sexxy Carping action I can dig up... but so far... I am not impressed at all.

Oh ya, my fishing skill is 35, and I have full gear, and a composite rod.

what if you're using a Mithran Rod in Bastok Markets? Do you think the "big fish" that will break the rod or lure or whatever would break then? Does your rod have anything to do with the rig breaking? Hmm. All I know is that I saw the most expensive rod I could buy (barring Lu Shang's) so I bought it in the hopes that nothing (carp-ish LVL) would ever break it.

    Thanks

    You the Man AIRSPIRIT!!!!!!

I took your advice and bought the shizit for 20k or so... and went to N Gusta and got like 4 stacks in an hour!!!! AN HOUR!!!!

Kept on fishing I walked to the mog house with around 10 stacks and easy 40k for a day of fishing..although the NEXT day I decided to take the "sexy carping action" the my sweet spot the knightwell... and I caught EVEN MORE CARP!

The Line NEVER broke in 6 hours ... EVER!! and caught another 3 stacks in an hour.

Ever since then I've been fishing at the knightwell in West Rondaure and it's safe to say that you wont lose the rig there and IMO is the best spot for carp ever...

The Robber Rig can be used to catch up to 3 Moat Carp at a time in Bastok Markets... I am a lvl 20 Fisherman and I catch stacks on stacks, use it with a Composite Rod and you are set for life. Note: Moat Carp can also be turned in for the Lu Shangs quest, so using a Robber Rig can make this process 3 Times as fast.

Maybe the difference is that the one that is luminescent would be better for catching deep fish, where it would need to be luminescent for it to be seen...? I've truly got no clue, but it kind of makes sense. ^.^

After using this for a while it appears to be a rogue rig for fish. It also appears that the higher your fishing skill is the faster your bite rate will be. On my two accounts I can set my chars side by side and I'll get three times the number of bites on my level 55 fisher than I get on my 27 fisher. For carping in Boyahda this is giving me about 1/2 the bite rate of moat carp without the trouble of hauling bait up ... I'm curious to see what happens after around 80 skill ....

I wouldn't use this in any are that has a fish that could break a line with ANY bait or lure such as the knight well, the pond in W Saru, the E Saru lake, or Bastok Markets. There is something big in those places that will break the line on your composite pole occassionally (with a sinking minnow) and you'll be waving goodbye to a 30K lure ... I'd recommend taking this to boyahda or the N Gusta bridge for some sexy carping action. This rig has a chance of catching any fish in that body of water, so if anything can break your line you are putting your new rig at risk.

You would think this rig is for catching items.
