You all really need to THINK for just a few minutes to find a good reason (benefit) to getting married. The best one in my opinion is that you guys can buy each other things you need or at least share the cost of a certain item. Go to the forums for various items on this website and you will always see people saying that they want to buy this item for their husband/wife, am I not correct? ITEMS AND EQUIPMENT THAT ARE SOMETIMES WORTH A MILLION GIL! Is anyone following me?! So please correct me if I am wrong in this "benefit" i'm pretty sure its a good one <(^.^<)(>^.^)>

Granted getting married in the game is a fun thing to do only it sucks when your g/f has to marry your best friend b/c your a mithra. These are the days I curse choosing a mithra as my main. I even created a mule for her to marry, but she wont marry him since she cant hang out with him... Bah... Oh well. I guess I'll grit my teeth and bear it.
So, she 'hangs out' with your best friend instead? How is that different from marrying your mule and hanging out with your Mithra? Sounds like your g/f may be a cyber-****...

erm i've sorta got a situation...I used to be engaged (in game) to this one guy, and well, to say the least, it didn't work out. Well, I got so mad at him i kinda...threw out my wedding ring >< it reminded me of him, and i needed room in my mog house. Sooo now i'm engaged again (*huggles Silegna*). Do i HAVE to have a wedding ring? If so...can i get another one, somehow?

Wind Crystal + Castor's ring = remove rare/ex
Typhoon (or was it cyclone? I think it's cyclone) crystal + Castor's ring = remove rare/ex AND add your name to it.
Cyclone crystal and all other "HQ" crystals that are used to perform a synth and sign a signable item at the same time are all EX (not rare) and only attainable from guilds.
You must contract with a guild (all guilds except fishing have all types of "HQ" crystals). In order to contract with a guild you must be at least skill 30 and have passed the third guild test.
For this particular item, you can have skill 0 in ALL crafts and use a wind crystal to remove Rare/EX status.
You can be a clothcrafter, and get a cyclone crystal and add your signature and remove rare/ex. You do not need a particular craft skill leveled up.

ok so this stupid ring is virtually useless?
i'd like to know how the hell i saw someone wearing a signed Castor's Ring....
I still cannot bring myself to dump this ring .. as much trouble as it was to get.. there HAS to be a use for it later on LOL>. i mean. .there just has to!!
what skill is required to remove the ex/rare status? I don't want to waste a special crystal, or worse, a ring

Just use the ring in a regular wind crystal. Should be 100% success, it's not a crafting check.

hmm, i dont think we should use our brains on this sherlock... theres no possible way this could become something else!
Do you need a particular lvl in any craft to undo the "ex" by synthesising this with a wind crystal or is it a guarenteed synthesis at any lvl. I'd hate to synth it and lose it in the process.

hey what do i do with this ring? what good is it? doesnt it do someting special or have a related quest? ...and yes i read most of teh previous posts but wht good is this thing in gerneral?

First, there's no time restriction coz i got the quest at least 2 weeks ago (earth time) before I started to find a candidate.
My exp yesterday, on Ifrit server:
I shouted a few times without any response. After I gave that up and was running aroud Sandy for other quests, it occured to me that there're few girls in ffxi. So I started to observe every character I passed by. The most probably, you can see a female mithra or taru, but not hume. And a hume girl was who I was looking for.
Suddenly, in front of S. Sandy AH, I sighted a hume girl, but not with blonde hair. Then I saw another with blonde hair and as I took a closer look, she's the perfect candidate!
So i used the chat function to ask for a favor. After some time, she replied: I can't understand English.
I'm not giving up, so I use very short and simple English, and stressed that it's close and safe: N. Sandy (I used translation, of course). At last, I said: 1 min, ok?
After some thoughts, she said ok and put the flag on.
Thus, we formed a party and went to Cheateau for Halver, with an interesting cutscene.
And after all, i obtained Castor's ring. I did not know she also got a ring at that time. And the cutscene looked insulting to her, making me a bit embarrassed. But I supposed she's japanese (as she can't speak Eng) and so wouldn't request a reward. I just gave her a bow and thanked her, she gave me a smile and left. THANK YOU, Miuu. ^^
Suggestion:
So, I have to say I was very lucky, for having found the perfect candidate just a few miles away from cheateau (North to S. Sandy AH is N. Sandy and Cheateau), and she's a japanese who is willing to help a stranger. I recommend you all to wait for the perfect candidate there. And if you've read this, remember to tell the candidates she'll get a ring (no matter you shout or tell). This should make the search easier.
Use of this quest:
1. Obviously, you got a ring. It's Rare/Ex. But you can remove Ex using wind crystals. And with cyclone crystals, you can add your name to it. I heard that it's for the marriage system, but I don't know the details.
2. I believe it'd be a requisite quest for some other quests. If you still remember the cut-scene, there's a NPC, Temple Knight Captain, Curilla. It seems that she and Prince Trion have some love affairs. I bet either the prince or Curilla (or the other prince Prejue, the king, Halver, queen, or else) would ask for help later.

Cyclone, as well as other special crystals can be bought with guild points (after passing 3rd test in a craft).
Not sure if there are any other ways to get these.

The picture shows the truth - the ring /is/ indeed Rare/Ex, but a friend of mine told me that if you synth it using a regular wind crystal, you change its designation to "Rare" only.
I have done this and confirmed that this is the case. However, you /can/ etch your name on the ring using a high level wind crystal known as a Cyclone Crystal. It's just like the regular wind crystals, but you can use it to craft something with your name on it. Thing is... you only get these as high level crafters in the guilds.
Perhaps... these are the engagement rings? We were able to switch rings with each other, and we have also attempted to wear both rings at the same time, to see if there were a latent effect, but nothing happened.
