Presently, we have it set up where our ls gets together on a specified time each week and carries this out. Last time we had a full alliance however a full alliance is not needed; the game will adjust the number of NPCs and mobs accordingly.
Now just to give you an idea of the drops (if you are successful in completing it):

Mannequin parts
Garrison Armor
Scroll of Dragon cronicles
Gil

If you happen to be unfamiliar with what garrison is or what happens during garrison, I will elaborate further.

First off, garrison is an event where you and a pty/alliance fend off four waves of mobs while protecting NPC fighters. These fighters will assist your pty in defeating the mobs however you must keep as many as you can alive; the more NPCs that remain alive when completed the more prizes/gil your pty/alliance receives.

Anyone can participate in garrison however to initiate the Garrison the person from the respective nation must turn in a garrison item to the Outpost guard. For example, darksteel engraving >>> North Gustenberg Outpost, red cryptex >>> West Ronfy Outpost, 7-knot quipus >>> West Saruta Outpost, etc...
Once garrison begins, a platoon of NPCs will appear along side your pty/alliance at the outpost. Your pty/alliance will be lvl capped at 20.
NOTE: Because of level cap at 20; make sure your pty/alliance has the appropriate gear; moreover, make sure ppl have the garrison item to turn in also lol.... Because we schedule the event before hand, we ensure the appropriate ppl have their respective garrison item to be able to turn in; the appropriate ppl being the ppl of the nation where we are going to do the garrison for.
Now the battle ensues... 4 waves of mobs....

<Strategy>

We only comprise our pty/alliance of vokers and mages. I highly recommend it!

We have been successful with a 1:2 mage/voker ratio.

In addition to the garrison item and the lvl 20 gear, stock up on potions, which can be purchased by the Outpost guard; use a person in your pty/alliance that is from that nation. The potions purchased from the garrison guard are relatively cheaper than purchasing the item from a store/guild/ah. Furthermore, make certain that players have their respective job-enhancing foods.

Designate before the garrison begins which mages will heal pty and which ones will heal the NPCs. The vokers duties will be to pull the Mobs from the NPCs. One more key role will need to be filled...
The Kite! The "Kite" is the person who pulls a garrison mob away from battle as to keep the NPCs and pty/alliance for terminating it. The reasoning why you would want to keep a mob alive is b/c when all the mobs are killed in a wave then the next wave will immediately follow.
You don't need this to occur b/c the mages will need some time to heal the pty/alliance and NPCs.
Now recall, the mages were initially designated to heal specific groups during this event before hand; well while awaiting the next wave, have the mages suspend that initial understanding; have them spam cures to everyone (pty/alliance and NPCs) so that everyone can heal quickly.
Now back to the "Kite"...
In our garrison events, we use a NIN/WAR coupled with a BLM/WHM as our kite. The initial position prior to starting the garrison and each wave is crucial for this 2-person kiting crew; the reason why is b/c u don't need 'em too close to the NPCs and pty/alliance just to have the Kiters' mob attacked by the others. The NIN/WAR and BLM/WHM need to position themselves near the garrison mobs' spawn location.
The NIN/WAR will voke one and begin running away from oupost location; the BLM/WHM needs to communicate to the NIN/WAR if the mob voke was successful or not; the NIN/WAR and BLM/WHM will finally find a place to stop and then the BLM/WHM will sleep the mob. The mob will eventually awaken and the NIN/WAR will need to voke again so the BLM/WHM may be able to sleep it again (it is imperative the NIN/WAR has Utsusemi up b/c these mobs hit for a lot lol). Once the pty has pawned the wave and healed the pty/alliance and NPCs, have 'em let the kiters know when they are ready. Once ready, bring the mob back to the outpost and you will witness an L.A.P.D. beatdown.... then repeat this process for the following waves.

Then your finished. Congrats.

Be prepared... ppl may and usually do die from this event; moreover, if you do die, you will lose experience points on the job you are playing with. For those ppl, we compensate with the dragon cronicles (Dragon cronicles reward the person who activates this item with a non-specified amount of experience points not to exceed 999 experience points).
Also we have it in our garrison meets, where as the person who turns in the garrison item has first choice on which garrison armor he/she wants. As for the other armor pieces, we have everyone lot on 'em one-by-one; for the mannequin parts we let them fall to whom they may fall to.
NOTE: make sure you have inventory space to receive items awarded by mobs/garrison guard.

Good luck, and enjoy! ^^

I'm going to add... for the NIN/WAR & BLM/WHM kiting system to work, your garrison pty must have a lot of ppl; the reasoning is b/c if u show up there with a pty of only 6 ppl, this will compromise your pty's ability in successfully completing the garrison. Moreover, although the game adjusts the number of NPCs and garrison mobs, i believe it will be extremely difficult to stay alive let alone succeed. So if you use the NIN/WAR & BLM/WHM kiting system have no less than 15 member alliance. Other kiting systems are effective; for instance, you can have a RNG kite using sleep bolts; my ls hasn't had success with it but if you want an alternative... here it is. The RNG or solo BLM may be advantageous for your particular set up if you are limited on ppl participating in this event.

Here is how ya do it...

If ya are already reading this you dont need to know where to get the quipus and I am sure someone else has already said something in this thread so lets get to the meat and potatoes =)

Your nation needs to be in control of Sara. to turn in the item and start the garrison. Each person can turn in an item once per update week(we usually do about 6-8 runs in a night) Each run takes about 20-30 min if you know what you are doing. You will be capped at lvl 20.

There are two melee types of Yags
- Votary and Followers
There are two caster types of Yags
- Priest and Theologist
And one NM type NIN in the 4th(last) wave

Due to the amount of time or lack there of, inbetween the waves, we have resorted to "Kiting" (pulling out one mob, and running around the zone(any thing works but i prefer to pull out Votary)) That gives the tanks time to heal, the casters time to heal the NPCs that show up(oh yeah forgot to mention, there will be npcs that fight with you, the amount depends on how many people are in your alliance. the more npcs at the end the better the prizes)

Our LS prefers to only go in with 12 people(lag is less then 18 people). We try to get about 2 healers(one for each party) and an even distro of other casters and Melees. Now your melees really should have sub war or war as a main so they can voke and tank the yags to make it easier on the NPCs and your WHM.

Now for kiting...there are tons of ways to do this...and we have done most of them..such as

NIN/WAR with Utsisemi(sp)
RNG/WAR with Sleep bolts
BLM/WHM with Sleep
but the best so far imo is
WAR/BST...and here is why.

With War as my main i can equip more armor, and a Neckchopper (best lvl 20 weapon imo) and with Sub bst i can Charm the Yags. When i do there is a Temp Bind cast on the Yag, with a 10 second cool down i can keep running and charm when needed. I have successfully pulled out up to 3 yags and kited them this way. =) when the rest of the team heals up i bring it back..now here is the trick...dont bring it to camp, the NPCs will attk..and the AOE attks can mess them up. Stop out side of the camp area and have some melees come out...this way has been the most successful method.

When you get to the last wave it really pays to focus all of your attks on the NIN NM. He will use his 2hr and it will kill npcs fast if he gets in close. I make it a point to engauge a Yag and scan the area for his pop, when he does i voke him where he spawns and do my best to hold him there while our other melees get in range.

The drops off the Yags will be Mannequin Feet and Legs which you can bazz for about 30-40k. They are Rare so you can only have one of each.

The drops from a successful garrison are-
-Dragon Chronical pages - They give you xp. We set those aside IF there were any deaths(not to toot our horn..but there are hardly ever any deaths...we are good.)
-Garrison Gear
Tunica-40-60k
Hose-30-40k
Gloves-20-30k
Sallet-10-30k
Boots-90-100k

Now dont quote me on the prices, but that is a round about figure for how much they go for. This is the way we handle the loot. We will let the Person who turned in the Quipus pick his/her item and then we lot on the rest one by one. You can only get one garrion item until everyone has gotten one. Most of the time there are quite a few people who get multiple items. =) So there it is.

Have Fun.

Ugh... apparently not.

FYI, this seems to be the most annoying part of this site... newcomers who are so desperate to find 'their' answer that they completely ignore all of the well thought out descriptions other people have made, like Beandip's excellent post at the top (that says all you need to know about the item, and even gives out good strategy, something he didn't have to do).

So instead of actually taking the time to read this treasure trove they add their second post (I'm sure the first was the same type of rudeness but in a different thread) and just beg to be flamed by people like me who know that the overall quality this site depends on the quality of the posts. Idiots who cannot even read a full thread before posting a 'help help' message are kindly invited to go away. Immediately.

Some notes
# Oct 30 2004 at 4:47 AM Rating: Decent
I just completed my very first garrison quest tody. The organizing of it was tiring, but fun...the battle ensuing completely chaos ridden.
Looking back, there are a couple things I learned from it (we lost each and every npc...:() :
1)This quest MUST be activated by a person who is FROM the nation to which the outpost belongs. Being from bastok, and trying to activate the quest in Saruta, it didnt work too well. Fortunately one of the group had the quipus and was from Windy
2)If you are on a pc, and your computer is not as fast as greased lightining, turn down all your graphics and effects for this fight; the number of mobs, npc's and characters all fighting in this will slow your puter to a standstill.
3)Just having one or two blm trying to sleep is not enough. I think next time, I will pair avoker with each blm doing the sleeping. Otherwise the npc's will steal hate from the mages.
4)Make sure EVERYONE knows EXACTLY what they are doing in the fights. Unless their role is clear and laid out for them, people will run around doing whatever they can, trying to do their best, but considering the chaos of the fights, they may not know whether what they are doing is a good thing

Next time, each pt int the alliance will have everyone paired up with another, so they each work in teams of two. each team will have a good idea of what to do...like stay away from the Priest, *** that is the one we will be voking and sleeping, or kill just followers, etc
I will also, once the sleeper has dragged away one of the yags, have the rest of the blm's cast a large number of AoE spells while the yags are still relatively close, just to soften them up a bit. And whenever someone is running low on hp or mp, they will just back off and rest right away.

This is about making a Garrison work...

There are a couple of strategies in other posts and yeah I really like the idea of having 2 BLM sleep the yags or have a NIN blink tank, they are both valid and do their job which is to keep one of the yags busy so we have a chance to heal in between waves...

Now you know there is a very easy way to do that which doesnt require a specific job in the party (of course we all need our dear nukers and blinkers...). Have a voker *any voker* pull one of the mobs and run around with it while the alliance kills the yags. Once everybody and all NPCs are fully healed the person running can bring it back to start another wave.

This rarely fails and I have to say that we've done it a billion times and so far these are the only things that will make this not work:

1. the voker who is running dies;

2. the whole garrison ends up taking too long.

Yes, there is a time limit on a garrison! It already happened to me in Sandy and Windy. If you take too long you lose and no garrison items at the end... You stil get the mannequin legs/feet that drop from the mobs though.

The worst part in all of this is getting the alliance organized. Events like these take time and A LOT of group effort and there is always the impatient people, the stupid people and, of course, the rude people, which make it sooooo much harder to do this! That's why you should try to organize something like this with friends and people who have worked together before. If you have to just /sh around for people to join then please don't give them false hopes or promise anything you can't keep. Let them all know that they can and WILL die if there is no team work, try to set up a plan of action. Of course 1/2 of them wont listen and the whole alliance will die and blame you.

For all of this I have to thank my dear Turbo, the best Garrison leader and runner I've ever seen! He showed me this strategy and so far he has been the only person able to tell 17 people to shut up and listen... AND THEY DID!!!

If you guys are ever on the Shiva server, send /tell to Turbo saying BP ROCKS!!! He will sure appreciate it :p

easy win
# Aug 20 2004 at 7:45 AM Rating: Default
easy way to beat garrison:
u need: 2 blms with lots of yagudo drinks and a full alliance
at the start of each wave have to 2 blms pull a quadav away from the fighting and keep it slept
witch allows everyone to heal after the others are defeated once the NPCs are healed and everyone is buffed and healed and the mages have their MP have the 2 blms bring the quadava back over to finish it and start the next wave

TADA easy win, hope this helps ^^

Limitation
# Aug 20 2004 at 2:25 AM Rating: Decent
I would just like to say that there is a time limit that you have to wait before you can do this again. I'm guessing, like eco-warrior, you have to wait till after the conquest tally to do another. I tried trading in my 7-knotted Quipus to the W.W. and he said they won't be attacking any time soon thanks to me. Kinda sucks....

Simple, Fail-Safe Garrison Strategy

Members: 18
Individual Party Makeup: 2 white mages, 2 Provokers, 2 Misc. (not black mage!!!!)

Battle Strategy:
Have your provokers follow the NPCs around as they engage yagudo. Once the NPCs have engaged an enemy, provokers must provoke that enemy. Your provoker is now taking the damage and the NPCs are not. The end.

This is tough to do with one Party and gets progressively easier as you add PTs, assuming that you work together and have a plan drawn up before. Communication is next to impossible due to the crazy amount of stuff going on in the log window, filtering certain events is a must.

Make sure that they are full Parties of 6 people as you will face more opposition for every additional PT that participates. So maximize what the manpower you bring in. 2 Full PTs and one of 3 is not a good idea, just go with 2, you will face less opposition. Think of a PT of attackers for every additional PT even it it’s a PT of one person.

The only way to ace this (i.e. not lose a single npc) is if every melee subs WAR (voke is a must) and to rest between every wave. Otherwise you will die on the last wave. Yes you can rest, under one condition, and it’s not really cheating.

The key is to keep one mob alive when you kill each wave and rest up. The only way to do this effectively is to get a NIN/WAR to claim a target, **** off and blink tank until the rest of the alliance mops the rest of the enemies up. Once everyone is rested up kill the remaining mob left from the last wave and face the next, fully rested.

As far as keeping EVERY npc alive, one PT will have a tough time doing this. If you go with 2 healers in a PT you will have a really tough time defending the npcs and mages. I recommend one WHM/SMN one BLM/WHM and ideally:

RNG/WAR
THF/WAR
NIN/WAR
NIN/WAR*

*If 2 NIN/WAR are not available a MNK/WAR is ok (mainly for 2h on the last Boss mob) but at least one NIN/WAR is a MUST for this to work.

One NIN/WAR won't be able to fight, this guy will pull one of the mobs out of sight of the others and blink tank it, while keeping it alive (don’t attack it, just voke). Then the rest of the PT kills the wave and rests, kill the remaining. Rinse and repeat.

One THF is really good for this as they will get a lot of opportunities to sneak attack for awesome damage. RNG, enough said. Also, both THF and RNG can use crossbows with status bolts which help a lot, bring the following:

Blind Bolt - melee enemies will miss attacks more
Acid Bolt - Weakens Defense (by 12.5% I think)
Sleep Bolt - Sleep enemy (this is why a RNG is really nice to have, THF can use them but RNG does not miss nearly as often)

Melee bring some milk, NIN/WAR blink tanking should be eating fish mithkabobs, others meat mithkabobs. Mage bring juice and pie. You MUST keep the PT member that traded the item alive until the end of the event or the event fails and you get nothing.

The ideal setup that I have read about is 3 PTs (which I have not been able to try). A WHM in each PT is a MUST. Ideally one of the PTs should have a second WHM, strictly for healing the NPCs. The rest is about the same strategy as above. NIN/WAR are amazing for this, assuming they have Utsusemi: Ichi (otherwise they are useless) as they will lighten the WHM load considerably. The 3 PT approach is on mystery tour. The section was down for a bit but I believe it is currently up. I think this approach is bullet proof as long as the blink tank does his job properly.

Good luck.

I just wanted to warn everyone about the garrison events now being held. My linkmates and I were fighting in the Sarutabaruta garrison last night, when someone got disconnected. Because he disconnected in the middle of the fight, no more yagudo spawned after the second (or was it 3rd???) wave was finished. 10 of us sat around with the Candidates, waiting for the next wave of Yagudo which never showed up! To panic us even more, we weren't able to talk to the npc to take our lvl debuff off (It did end up removing itself after a good amount of time and will also be gone if you zone or disconnect).
I don't know if they plan to patch this in our next update (although we just had one this week already) but I thought it would be nice to give everyone a heads up. Please be extra careful because we spent a lot of money on expensive foods and medicines on that battle, and to not finish it just because someone was kicked from battle was really upsetting =) We were doing so well, too...

I've noticed alot of people don't actually read what is written on any of these posts, I hope people read this.

This is not only in Windhurst, you can do this in Sandy and Bastok too, but they are both much harder for some reason. You also need a different item then the quipis (DON'T ASK ME WHAT ITEM, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!)

I have no participated in these, but I have watched my linkshell try is 4 times. The candidates died every time.

Here's what I suggest from watching them. You need 2 WHM to cure the NPCs ONLY! 3 Melee: PLD or RNGs are BEST! both with sub WAR to voke off candidates. The last member should be a RDM to heal the melee if they need it

Use potions! There is a potion to give you 100 life instantly, use it! Find someone who can make it or something, it's cheaper that way. It's good to have at least 2 of these potions on you. And mana potions for the mages of course. Food is useful too, you can find out what is useful

You must be as fast as possible in killing these things, for you have absolutely no chance to rest in between.

The ones curing the candidates are most important, they have to keep on thier toes watching these NPCs, it's very very important.

Many people think they win if the Yags disapear. No. If they disapear, before you kill them all, that's cause all the candidates died.

Good Luck!

Tried the Garrison quest a couple of times with a party of 6 well-balanced ppl.

Goal was to protect 6 NPCs for Yag's. There are at least 3 waves of Yags. I think it was 2 easy ones at first, then about 4, then about 6..

In the middle of the third wave of Yag's, more Yag's popped up ... new name never heard of ... starts with an "F" I think. HARD!

Anyway, both times all the NPC's died and only 2-3 ppl in our party survived.

Well, that was a fun night. Guy in Windy shouting out that he needed members for a quest that would give everyone a 100k item, they just needed to be able to stay for some hours.

Me being a poor BLM, I took the bait... So we spend about 4 hours in Giddeus trying to get these things. I fell asleep (it was 6AM at this point) and they went on without me. From one of my LS buddies, what ended up happening was that there was ONE ITEM. Garrison Sallet. FOR THE ENTIRE ALLIANCE. ONE 20K ITEM.

People were pissed. :) So that's the reward. Have fun. :P
