Level 30 Subjob Items

There are level 30 Earrings, Shields, Belts and Mantles that all trigger on Latent Effects. These all correspond with a job.
All of them activate via Subjob. Nothing else will trigger these to activate, NOT main job, ONLY subjob.
The newest jobs (Blu, Cor, Pup) do not have these items (as of 7/27/06).
Subjob: Bard - Singer's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Song Belt)
Subjob: Beastmaster - Trimmer's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Pick Belt)
Subjob: Black Mage - Wizard's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Staff Belt)
Subjob: Dark Knight - Killer (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Scythe Belt)
Subjob: Dragoon - Wyvern (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Lance Belt)
Subjob: Monk - Wrestler's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Cestus Belt)
Subjob: Ninja - Genin (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Sarashi)
Subjob: Paladin - Esquire's (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Shield Belt)
Subjob: Ranger - Beater's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Gun Belt)
Subjob: Red Mage - Warlock's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Rapier Belt)
Subjob: Samurai - Ashigaru (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Katana Obi)
Subjob: Summoner - Magician's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Avatar Belt)
Subjob: Thief - Pilferer's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Dagger Belt)
Subjob: Warrior - Mercenary's (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Axe Belt)
Subjob: White Mage - Healer's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Mace Belt)

There are other Latent effect items that trigger at different things such as Low HP, <100% tp, a bard song on you, This is NOT one of those items.
The only thing that activates these items is your subjob.

Just another confirmation, you need to have BLM as Sub Job to activate the +5 Elemental Magic skill.

If you have ANY other SJ other then BLM, you will NOT get the +5 Elemental Magic Skill. Not if your HP is yellow and you have < 100% TP, not if its Full Moon + Darksday + Nightime, not if your Grandmother gets out in Lower Jeuno and does the "jiggy!", only if you have BLM as your Sub Job will you get the +5 Elemental Magic Skill.

I fell really bad for this BLM in a low lvl pt i was just in, bought this expensive earring, had it when he hit 30, made his HP in yellow, but no effect ; ; was hard to break the news to him...

DONT BE THAT BLM

i have this earring and a moldavite earring i can say in my experience its a perfect combo. i can verify that having a Blm sub activates this latent effect. say you have your elemental magic at 100 by equipping this with a Blm sub it raises that level to 105....btw currently a 57 rdm/Blm on Valefore my profile is outdated
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 11 2004 at 7:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok I am a rdm/blm, and I tested this out. First try without the earring the damage for stone is 52, I put this thing on the damage.......52. I did this 10 times, and then I decided to use different magics, same thing. After I bought it, tested it out, sold it lol. I had for like 4 minutes.

You bought it, equipped it, cast Stone I 10 times with the earring, unequipped it, cast it 10 times without, on 10 mobs and sold it again in 4 mins? Damn..that's better than my fast cast at 53

Increasing your Elemental Magic skill decreases the chance of the mob resisting the spell. If your Stone (I) spell did 52 points of damage, you weren't getting resisted, so increasing your Elemental Magic skill won't change anything. If you want to increase the damage done by a nuke, then boost your INT.

You need to browse this site and find the magic damage calculator so you can see that ele. skill only decreases the mobs resistance, but int+ lvl increase the damage.

I can also agree that this earring is activated by having BLM as your subjob. BLM/SMN is my main job, with the earring equipped I saw no increase in Elemental Magic skill. But when I switched to SMN/BLM I gained 5 to elemental magic skill. Needless to say I sold the damn thing back, since I rarely ever have BLM set as a sub. This earring is more for the RDM/BLM job.

Ok.. but the question is whether the +5 to elemental magic is really worth the price of this thing. Currently its going for 100k on my server. I already have a Morion on. So to swap this thing in before a nuke I lose a point of Int to gain the 5 elemental magic skill. Worth it or no?

Yes, it is worth it. As I understand ,an elemental skill up of 5 points is about 10 INT points. 1 skill point = 2 INT or MND depending upon which on skill is in use.

I do know a skill up is worth more than INT or MND based upon my experience with both an ice staff and my AF body.

That's not true. Elemental skill will -only- decrease your resists. It does not add to your damage in any way. So saying 5 skill points is about equal to 10 INT is completely off base. INT increases your damage, elemental skill does not.

Yeah +5 elemental skill is great to have, you will end up being resisted less. At higher levels you will definately want the +skill pieces especially when you get into fighting gods and things like that.

But don't make the mistake that INT and +skill are similar. They are 2 completely different attributes.

The effect is good but you would most likely be better off with morrion earrings unless you can equip phantoms ^^.

How much gil do these go for? This would be awesome for my SMN/BLM since my nukes are corny due to it being a sub.

At Lvl 75 with Blm sub, you would be able to nuke ALMOST as good as a lvl 39 Blm (they would have one more point), meaning you wouldnt be able to nuke unresisted against a mob your lvl.
RE: Cost
# Oct 10 2004 at 2:58 PM Rating: Decent
.. Your nukes will still be corny with 5 more elemental magic skill levels. A SMN/BLM is wasting MP using blm nukes, it'd be more effective to spend on actually summoning.

Subjob: Black Mage

Latent Effect: Elemental Magic Skill: 5

For this earring, Latent Effect is activated when you have Black Mage as your Sub Job.

Subjob only

I do believe the latent effect is if you have BLM subjob only (won't work with BLM main job)...
#REDACTED, Posted: May 22 2004 at 3:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Latent effects are normally activated by yellow hp and only has a chance to be active.

Incorrect. You're thinking of the Latenet Effects of the level 50 rings. which you are correct, 2/3rds health and less than 100% tp...

These earrings are Subjob specific.

How many times does this have to be repeated. Latent effect means something happens under special circumstances.

This earring does in fact activate when subbing BLM. All of these BCNM level 30 earrings will activate when you have the appropriate sub.

To prove this, buy a wrestler earring (its a cheap ring to buy and you can always sell it back) and sub MNK but DO NOT equip the ring. Check your total hp and make sure you are at full health to prove it does not activate in yellow.

Next, with your sub set to MNK and the wrestler earring equiped, check your total hp (cure yourself if you have to or just check the status menu). With the earring equiped and your subjob set to MNK you will get + 30 hp.

Don't believe me, try it yourself. It happens with all the BCNM earrings of level 30. Other items have been proven to activate when your hp is yellow. I am not disagreeing with that but these work differently. ^^
