As to what's better, dune boots or melee gaiters, that all depends. Factors very greatly depending on what's going on and your other gear. Owning both these and dune boots is ideal. That way you could swap em out as needed.

It's like the asking whats better, Shura Togi or Kirin's Osode. The togi allows for faster TP, while the osode allows for stronger attacks and WS dmg.

In KRT I would much rather have these and shura hidate, while farming or something else, gimme dune boots and melee hose.

i have both the dune boots and full af2 - 1 peice, being the head peice.

if you have merits into counter, that alone will be better than the dune boots.
yes its nice to have the extra dmg on the kick attk

but with enhanced counter, you will counter more on higher level mobs than you will with kick attk dmg

but, at lower level mobs, the dune boots will be better, reason being, the lower level monsters hardly hit you period.
in order to successfully counter an attk, the mob has to be able to land that hit, then you will counter.
i personally counter tank in my exp static, but we do the krt mnk burn and they go down fast anyhow, i love the af2 boots

to sum it all up, BOTH boots are very good, it just depends on your situation

if farming, or killing lower level mobs, then dune boots

exp/higher level nm/mobs, then the AF2 boots are better, you will counter more often than the kick
or at least that is what it is for me, but then again i have counter capped, 60+ merits and "almost" full counter gear (even though i dont use all of it, i have it for those just in case senario's)

anyhow, i hope this will help a tad, both boots are really nice.

Testing was done on these multiple times and it was posted on the KI forums. They don't appear to increase counter rate with counterstance on. If they do, it is merely 1-2%. The numbers people are posting here are totally random, but yeah, you can counter about 75% with full counter gear. Accuracy checks before counter though, so you wont be able to tank anything big like Kirin, cause you will miss too much to counter. The best guess about these boots is that they add evasion to the counterstance effect. Notice they do not say "enhances counter" like the Spharai (fully upgraded relic weapon) do. They say "enhances Counterstance effect". It has not yet been clearly determined what the effect is.

normal counterstance lets you counter 60% of the time these knock it up to 80%ish and as for dune boots being better not really haste mabe but not dune ^^

I'd bet that if a monk were to gather up all the counterstance+ gear you can get, he would counter over 90% of all hits. Has any monk out there tried this? Think of how effective of a tank that would be, not only hardly getting hit, but redirecting attacks back at the enemy all the while.

I strongly agree with Kasta on this one.
Monks can tank very weel from 10-25. Thats when it starts to change to paladins/ninjas main tanking. However, a Monk with Crosscounters, Avengers earring x2, Aikido sitabaki, and these gaiters, +counterstance would be a decent tank, if not a good one. the effectiveness of counter not only negating the enemys attack, but throwing damage right back at him can add up very quickly. With capped guard, a monk might even be able to tank up with the real ones. Have any monks tried this strategy out yet?

ya... until you get hit with a ws while you have 27 def.... if you didnt know, you cannot counter weaponskills and abilities, and ya, it takes modded def into consideration
and ya ok so mebbe at level 75 you'd have 75 def.. woo

your right you cant counter a ws, but you sure can guard one, it feels nice when a ws that can do 500+ hits for about a normal attack

What is the Counterstance enhancement? does it make the DEF reduction less, or increase Counters even more?
