Level 30 Subjob Items

There are level 30 Earrings, Shields, Belts and Mantles that all trigger on Latent Effects. These all correspond with a job.
All of them activate via Subjob. Nothing else will trigger these to activate, NOT main job, ONLY subjob.
The newest jobs (Blu, Cor, Pup) do not have these items (as of 7/27/06).
Subjob: Bard - Singer's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Song Belt)
Subjob: Beastmaster - Trimmer's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Pick Belt)
Subjob: Black Mage - Wizard's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Staff Belt)
Subjob: Dark Knight - Killer (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Scythe Belt)
Subjob: Dragoon - Wyvern (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Lance Belt)
Subjob: Monk - Wrestler's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Cestus Belt)
Subjob: Ninja - Genin (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Sarashi)
Subjob: Paladin - Esquire's (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Shield Belt)
Subjob: Ranger - Beater's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Gun Belt)
Subjob: Red Mage - Warlock's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Rapier Belt)
Subjob: Samurai - Ashigaru (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Katana Obi)
Subjob: Summoner - Magician's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Avatar Belt)
Subjob: Thief - Pilferer's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Dagger Belt)
Subjob: Warrior - Mercenary's (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Axe Belt)
Subjob: White Mage - Healer's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Mace Belt)

There are other Latent effect items that trigger at different things such as Low HP, <100% tp, a bard song on you, This is NOT one of those items.
The only thing that activates these items is your subjob.
the belts

the latent effect on this belt will be just like all the others. You sub the job that has the best rating in the weapon/skill and you get the bonus.

so in this case, you could go out as a whitemage/bard for example, equip this belt, and you would get a bonus of 5 points into your singing skill. I have no idea why square would actually add this item into the game since I cant see a good time to sub bard. In the case you leveled bard high in the past, the bonus might actually be slightly better, but regardless, nobody subs bard.

to make it more clear.
------------------------------
Avatar Belt - sub summoner, +5 summoning skill?
Axe Belt - sub warrior, +5 great axe skill
Cestus Belt - sub monk, +5 hand to hand skill
Dagger Belt - sub thief, +5 dagger
Gun Belt - sub ranger, +5 marksmanship
Katana Obi - sub sam, only works with ninja. +5 GK
Lance Belt - sub dragoon, +5 polearm
Mace Belt - sub whitemage, +5 club
Pick Belt - sub beastmaster, +5 axe skill
Rapier Belt - sub paladin, +5 sword
Scythe Belt - sub dark knight, +5 scythe skill
Shield Belt - (I have no idea, probably sub paladin again)
Song Belt - sub bard, +5 singing skill
Staff Belt - sub black mage, +5 staff

Avatar Belt is - 2 or 3 to Avatar Perpetuation when smn is subbed not +5 to the summoning skill.

As someone who occassionally subs Bard, this is the best possible item they could have made for this fairly rare situation. At the time of posting (December 20, 2005), all instruments are BRD-only, so if you sub BRD, the only bard magic skill which can be used is singing. Having this will make it easier to get spells to stick and make those which aren't set results more durable and potent.

In answer to the question in the post, I've subbed BRD as WHM for situations wherein casting MP-based spells is a Bad Idea, and in which the group is a high-enough level not to need any drastic healing. For instance, if we're going through an area which cons most mobs as EP, this is a good choice. That way if sneak wears in an area with a set of bats and three dolls/pots hanging around, an army's paeon on the party and a foe requiem on the normal-aggro mobs can keep this to a one-monster fight with no one getting into the range wherein low HP extands the area in which undead can detect people.

This is speculation on my part, but the lullabys are some of the hardest spells to make stick. As BRD main I often don't even try if I don't have my Mary's horn with me, because so very often the sleep is resisted or wears even before the spell animation has finished. Again this is just a guess, but possibly if singing is capped at the sub's level, the extra +5 may be enough to give it a chance to land and stick.

And finally, a note on the avatar belt: its latent effect is avatar perpetuation cost -2.

Actually the rapier belt is sub Red Mage for +5 sword skill. The shield belt is sub Paladin for +5 shield skill.
bard sup job only?

Is the latent effect of this belt (and presumably the other latent lvl 30 belts) influenced by your support job? I'm guessing this song belt only works if bard is your support job. Bard main gets singing skill +5 from AF gloves at lvl 60. Kinda hard to fathom you can get the same thing at lvl 30.
This thing or Corsette +1

Any ideas what I should sell one for? Only 3 have been sold on bismarck and they were all for about 30k, but this certainly seems like it would be worth more. I could be wrong though.

Thanks!
