The smithing cap for this is either 80, 81, 82, 83, or 84.
Reasoning: I tried it at 79 and got a skillup, so it's greater than or equal to 80. But on that same skillup I broke the crystal. The only way to get a skillup on break is to be within 5 levels of the cap. That means it can't possibly cap higher than 84. Hence, the smithing cap is 80-84

Windurstian/San d'Orian/Bastokan items are made by taking a CP item, and using an upgrade recipe. The Federation/Kingdom/Republic items are the HQ of the upgrades.

i just use fire crystal, combined iron ignot and merc sycthe and it said that combo cannot be synthesized?

I beleive it calls for a Darksteel Ingot as other sites say. I tried to synth this with level 0 smiting and a Darksteel Ingot, and it wouldn't let me. It must require a much higher smithing level than 0.
this is atleast a 60+ smithing combine, had a friend try with 51 smithing, using the darksteel, and was too low to synth.

recipe is correct....but as for the lvl...who knows. I am 57 smithing, 35 gold.....and it says not high enough. what it DOESN'T say is that it cant be synthed. So that means the recipe IS correct....its just a lvl thing.

I dont believe it is purchaseable with conquest points. I bought mine from the AH (the one the pic above is captured from in fact ^^) The Mercenary Captain's Scythe is certainly purchaseable with conquest points (from Bastok... rank 4 i think) but if there is a recipe for the MC Sycthe, then this is probably the superior result of it... There are, to the best of my knowledge, no other DRK34 scythes.

Well, it's obviously the +1 version of something. Anything with a white border around the item picture is a +1 version. Anything with a Blue border is +2, or +1 +1, however you want to look at it.

the conquest items are a bit different, they might only get stats for being +1, but the white isn't +1. if it was, the level wouldn't increases on it. only the special effect level 1 items seems to do that. only item i've seen that could appear to be a +2 synth too is the enerdy earring +1, but i don't know how it's made, so can't be sure :)
All Windurstian items are upgraded from Windurstian conquest items, Federation is the +1 synth of Windurstian items.

There is a Rank 3 item you can get from windhurst called the Mercenary Captains Scythe, that's the closest I could find this thing... so it is possibly an upgraded version of that ^_^
