Proc rates
# Feb 06 2008 at 12:08 PM Rating: Decent
As a 15Nin/War with two of these and Wind Fans equipped:

12 procs over 106 hits, counting crit hits, and discounting misses and weapon skills, fighting easy prey.
Each proc consumes one Wind Fan.

So it's about a 10% (one in every ten) chance for wind damage. You see it as an En-Aero effect, and it shows up in the log as 'Additional effect: X points of damage.'

The wind damage ranges from 5-30, it's usually around the same as the Katana itself hit for, but occasionally higher or lower. Sometimes inflicts like, 30 damage after a strike for 21, so the damage really hurts when they go off.
They're excellent when soloing, I don't think they proc so often when I was fighting ITs in a party, but I wasn't counting then because I was concentrating on the fight- so take that with a pinch of salt.

Wind Fans can now be brought for ~20g in Whitegate (look up Wind Fan to find the vendors), and they stack to 99, so you can effectively use these katanas without spending a fortune on fans.

This is 58 cap, I got skill-ups at 56.
A somewhat cheap craft for that lv if in your sever darksteel bolts are not benifitial (in Fenrir now it is 70k lost per stack of synth) and Nodova breaks too much (10 level gap)
I will start Nodova at 58, when i capped this.

skill cap

Can anybody verify that the cap for this is 55 or 58? ffxi.cannotlinkto says cap is 58 and i want to skill up from 55 for a couple levels to bridge the nodowa stage a little more than 11 lvls...i dont want to use all my iron sheets if i wont get skillups as these sell slow and for little to no profit and almost complete loss to NPC.

I just hit 57 smithing skilling on these, then got two .2 skill ups in a row for total of 57.4. So cap is at least 58. cannotlinkto seems to be more reliable for skill caps from what ive seen.

I'm a lv 20 nin atm and i use these kyofu. Using wind fan for the wind damage is great!! It does about 10-28 dmg if it kicks in and i do about 10-17 dmg per hit without the effect so i'm good. Using these are alot better, using wind fan, makes it alot better.

I don't understand why I don't see ninjas at the dunes using these that often. These are the same as the mokuto (except these are 5 delay faster). And in the dunes, what good is the additional affect of silence doing, really? The crab or pugil can't cast spells on you now. Yay! If you have these and wind fans, your kicking ***. Although I'd admit the fans are hard to get, if people used these more, fans would be made more.
Wind Damage, how?

I know i should equip something in the ranged slot, but what is it?
Can't find a "wind fan" item

thanks

EDIT: a big thanks to "Kwontos" for answering my Question at the Ninja forums.
This is his replay:

They are a crafted item, you can buy them at the AH. They are sold under the ammo section. They are a crafted item, bonecraft level 64. You use an earth crystal and the recipe is:

Wind Cluster
Bat Wing
Beeswax
Beetle Shell
Giant Fimur

It yields 66 at a time. Its definitely cheaper to make them than buy them. The last stack (of 99) I sold went for 10k. They is a fairly large margin because they don't sell well (maybe 2-3 stacks a week). So if you know a high level bonecrafter you may want to have them help you out. Even still its not cheap and not something you'd probably want to use all the time. I think you can craft 198 (2 stacks) for about 14k. Its possible that no one on your server is listing them now, they are somewhat of a rarity. But they are in the ammo section and called "Wind Fan" I don't believe they are listed on this site.

Finally an other recipe that uses the "oh so useless" Tin ingot.
Hehehe.

On Caitsith this sword goes for about 10k in Jeuno. I believe this is a synthesized weapon. As to a recipe, I'll see if I can find it out. Great weapon though. It's an amazing amount of additional damage, does more than the regular attack. However, the ammo (wind fan) seems to be extremely rare to come by.
