I'm just wondering if a weaponskill like energy drain or energy steal would work for breaking the latent, I assumed it was any weaponskill but some of my friends say the weaponskill has to do damage so if anyone could clear this up I'd appreciate it.

Yes to besieged, no to campaign.
I haven't broken mine yet, so I can't speak from personal experience, but I researched it for a while because I had wanted to do a load of campaign. Since I found that out I haven't actually done a singe campaign =( I need to get back to that.

I don't see this mentioned here, but I just learned (since I needed 357 points to break it [and I got 57 points in Dynamis tonight]) that you cannot use your weapon and expect to gain points for it in Dynamis. They will not count sadly.

stupid question.
As you should know hp+20 means your max hp increases by 20.
Therefore before latent breaks your hp can be 15/xxx it will be 15/xxx-20 after it breaks.

Ok, back-story.
My NIN is 74, its dagger skill not high enough to attain the Evisceration quest.
My BRD just dinged 73, and I capped off my dagger, I can now flag the quest as BRD.
Because BRD is so slow, however, I want to know if I can get the WS points as my NIN? (Haste Build, Dual Wield IV, and high damage mitigation FTW)

I can also confirm this, I got WHM to 70 to get enough club skill to unlock quest, and did all my WS's to break latent as 71BLM who's skill is capped below requirement to unlock quest.
Yes it works. Friend of mine got it with RDM but used RNG to do the WSs. NIN doing it for BRD wouldn't be any different, since NIN can equip it.^^

WOW this sucks for bard, there is no way to break the latent easy because we get such sh*tty WS, and there's no time in PT to melee especially when we're in sky or doing KRT... i hate this quest

Well don't be a dumbass. You obviously have 75 RDM and 75 THF accroding to your signature... So why are you trying to break a latent with a job that doesn't even attack. Use your brain and either go RDM/NIN or THF/NIN and go duo with someone or party your THF... Am I the only one who thought that post was completely pointless...?

Check your dates is all I can say. It's possible to get those 2 jobs to 75 in a year.
Asked an exp pt if they minded if i used my dagger of trials, they said no prob. 60 light SCs later (about 3 hours or so) latent was off and i switched back to mi harpe :-D. I had a drg do wheeling thrust followed by my shark bite. So if your a thf id severly recomend setting up a light SC as it is worth 5 points, good luck :-)

anyone know why the Chief wont give me this quest? She said something about having the "flame of rancor" on my hands and told me I have one day to pack my stuff and get out.

hmm, she should give you the dagger quest even if u have another one open. cuz when i got my scythe quest i had another open with Novalmauge. So why would it be different? weird.

Um... NO. I'm pretty sure it says that one of the requirements are "BASE" Dagger Skill 230. That means 230 without enhancements or additional effects...

Just to clarify- 71 is the minimum level, but bards can't get this quest untill level 73 due to crappy weapon rank. Still, better than our ability to use Retribution only at level 75.

The latent effect is active until you 'clear' the weapon. As soon as you have finished collecting points you will no longer get the latent effect bonuses.

You need to earn 300 points. You MUST use this dagger to earn the points. (This will remove the Latent Effect.)

After this... investigate the ??? @ I-8 (2nd map) in Gustav Tunnel to defeat an NM bat (Baronial Bat) and receive the Writing of Trial. Return to Jakoh Wahcondalo to receive your new WS.

I heard also that you must use the weaponskills on "easy prey" or above... otherwise the points dont give.

Stupid Question: Is this weapon skill useable with all daggers or just this dagger or whatever it turns into?
My Blood Elf Paladin is going to make people quit.
This is part of the quest to unlock Evisceration for all daggers as described above.. it is given by the NPC listed.
