Level 30 Subjob Items

There are level 30 Earrings, Shields, Belts and Mantles that all trigger on Latent Effects. These all correspond with a job.
All of them activate via Subjob. Nothing else will trigger these to activate, NOT main job, ONLY subjob.
The newest jobs (Blu, Cor, Pup) do not have these items (as of 7/27/06).
Subjob: Bard - Singer's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Song Belt)
Subjob: Beastmaster - Trimmer's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Pick Belt)
Subjob: Black Mage - Wizard's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Staff Belt)
Subjob: Dark Knight - Killer (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Scythe Belt)
Subjob: Dragoon - Wyvern (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Lance Belt)
Subjob: Monk - Wrestler's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Cestus Belt)
Subjob: Ninja - Genin (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Sarashi)
Subjob: Paladin - Esquire's (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Shield Belt)
Subjob: Ranger - Beater's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Gun Belt)
Subjob: Red Mage - Warlock's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Rapier Belt)
Subjob: Samurai - Ashigaru (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Katana Obi)
Subjob: Summoner - Magician's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Avatar Belt)
Subjob: Thief - Pilferer's (Earring, Mantle, Aspis, Dagger Belt)
Subjob: Warrior - Mercenary's (Earring, Mantle, Targe, Axe Belt)
Subjob: White Mage - Healer's (Earring, Mantle, Shield, Mace Belt)

There are other Latent effect items that trigger at different things such as Low HP, <100% tp, a bard song on you, This is NOT one of those items.
The only thing that activates these items is your subjob.

Getting this item

This item is a drop off the level 30 BCNM battle Toadal Recall in Ghelsba Outpost.(6 members) The battle is with 4 Funguar type monsters, that cannot be charmed or slept. Basic stategy is to use 3 RDM's as kiters with bind and gravity, and to have a tank, healer and ranger to kill them off one by one. The effect is triggered by having SMN subjob - like the Magicians Earring. In my opinion its the best shield for mages at level 30 if you use summoner as your sub. If you want to try to get this - Good luck - its not too hard.

I'd say it drops off of a BCNM 30 if I had to guess, but which one? I'd really like to know this.

Anyone have any idea where I can get one of these? I've looked on all Four AH's, and it's not even on the list. I haven't even got a price range.

Any info would be great. Thanks

I think the lvl 30 shields' latent effects are triggered like the lvl 30 earrings' ones, so ...

Latent Effect Trigger: Must have SNM as sub-job

This is pretty good for:

This is also an easy shield to test if the latent effect is triggered by subjob...

This is a kinda crappy shield. The latent effect is nice. But aren't shields suppose to help defend you? Not so good when you have a def of 2.

Actually, this is an awesome shield. Consider if you will, that the only practical purpose a shield serves in this game is to provide one more avenue through which your character can possibly avoid an attack altogether, through the shield blocking skill. If, as a mage, you draw aggro and the monster comes over to whack on you, you're going to take a ton of damage anyway simply due to the fact that all your equipment is geared towards +INT, +MND, +MP or whatever. Therefore, get a shield with nice "magely" bonuses on it, and then on the (hopefully) rare occasions that the monster hits you, you (hopefully) will shield block, or evade, or whatever, and avoid the attack entirely. The only use for a good defense rating on a shield would be for a tanking character. Since WHM need to focus on MP a bit more than they do MND in my opinion, this shield is perfect for a WHM/SMN, who will have better MP than a WHM/BLM anyway.

You shouldn't really have to be defending yourself very often if you're a mage ^^

Very nice latent effect.
