The offering
# Nov 23 2013 at 5:23 AM Rating: Decent
I helped a 63 smn grab this the other day, a LS mate. What a pain in the back end this was. You NEED to enter at the Den of rancore entrance is for sure to get the offering the fastest.
Even at 99 rdm its kind of a hassle to run around there. Tonberrys like nobody. The Idols agro to magic. So. you could end up in a endless fight.
Since every so often the smn would get agro, or the 90 pup would get agro. So this is what we decided to do.
The pup ran around got some agro. Brought them all to me. about 17 mobs. I sleep em all/ they start checking the rooms for the offering. I keep all agro and the growing crowd occupied. ( don't try this at home lol)

So I ended up running around checking rooms aswell. thru the second chamber behind the door, and second door ( in section Right off den of rancore )
I had found the offering with the hoard on my butt. Yelled for LS mates to meet me in the hallway, ran to them and escaped us. The NM fight to get the mitts ..piece of cake. the Offering is the insane part. GL. take a well versed RDM with you ( I was rdm/blm obviously )
but all the buffs will help in staying alive while some one runs around checking the spawns. Its not so bad honestly. Brute force tactic instead of sneaking around.
Screw you SE

Seriously SE.....seriously? First off, I don't know why this has to be so difficult. The gloves aren't exactly game breaking, just making smn the way it ought to be in the first place, less perpetuation.

Secondly, why the F is the pop item harder to obtain than it is to beat the actual NM? Let's make the ??? spawn only every 2 hours, place it behind doors, and put in front and behind those doors mobs that agro to sight, and have AoE instant KO moves. Sounds great! Seriously SE....seriously?

Respawn Time
# Jan 23 2008 at 9:44 PM Rating: Decent
The respawn time is roughly 2 hours. I was lucky and the ??? was up when I went to get it. Then my friend came to get one, so we waited and exactly 2 hours after I got mine, the one for him popped. Then we went to kill the NM while another group went to get the Offering and it spawned exactly 2 hours after my friend got his.

So I'm just making an educated guess and saying the respawn time is 2 hours.

I'd Also Like to Point out.. for all you Ex Ninja's out there, this is really easy for you:

- change subjob to Anything/ NINJA

- grab 1 sneak oil and a stack of tonko: ichi or : Ni + Warp

- get teleport-yhoat or kazam boat then choco to Den of Rancor
(Via Yhoator Jungle NW of the spring at J-7)

- Travel through Den Of Rancore by useing Tonko AND on Sneak Oil, and taking your first and only right, over the bridge rock thing past all the Puck's and through the tunnel to The Temple of ugglyness

- once in there cast utsusemi then Tonko

use the map for the themple at
http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/maps/uggalepih_temple/general/

the spawn points are on the 3rd floor. youll see, the white dots on this map

NOW TIME FOR DOOR OPENING STRATEGY!!!!:::::::::::::::::::::::

This works for every door no aggro for /Nin
(if your carefull)

- stand on one side of the door as close to the wall as you can

- disable your invisibility or wait for it to fade

- cast Tonko: Ichi again but Keep you Cursor on the Granite Door

- AS SOON as you see tonko cast at 60% activate the door.

- the pawberrie wont see you

- WATCH OUT FOR DOLL'S they Aggro to Magic (but avoidable)

- when the door is open run in and check for "???"

- if not Repeat with new door.

:::: if you get stuck inside a Door with Pawberrie::::

Simple!

- just wait till the Pawberrie is Faceing EXACTLY AWAY from you. RIGHT THEN take off invisi and open door and run to the side, away from inside pawberrie and outside ones..

:::: IF YOU GET AGGRO:::

Run. Pretty much, these aggro to lvl 75's so if your a lower lvl you might want to be EXTREAMLY CAREFULL and dont fear Death because it may come to you in the Form of ANGRY PAWBERRIES!! >.>

anyways im still trying to get it so theres my little helper post ^^ [PEACE]

Anyone can do it!
# Dec 31 2006 at 2:30 PM Rating: Decent
Well, maybe not entirely everyone, but it's not that challenging to do, if you know what to do. I went as 39RNg/19NIN and loved the adrenaline rush.

I followed Stravia's advice, except I never got to the rinse-repeat stage. I went in through the Den using Utsusemi: Ichi until I got to the pucks. They aggro sound and I forgot to bring Silent Oils, so I waited for them to be near the middle and ran along the outer wall, no aggro.

Got into the temple and had the fun start. Tonko: Ichi with Utsusemi up, I ran up the stairs and took the first left to get to the first pair of doors. I dropped invis. This next step is crucial for my plan. If you hear the giggle (aggro) then run back to the zone to the Den. You'll probably aggro more but I never took a single point of damage, Utsusemi absorbed everything.

I zoned back in and the way was cleared so I ran un-invised back to the door I tried (and got aggro from) and opened it, went inside and checked. If it wasn't there I went back outside to the door across the way and tried again. If I heard the giggle, I ran. If I didn't, I went into the room, quickly spammed tab, then ran out. I repeated this for the 4 doors in the first part. Then I tonko'd and ran the long way (like Stravia suggested) and had no problems. Got to the lower section and got lucky. Opened the first room and the Tonberry had his back facing me, checked it and went out. Went to the second door near the Granite door with the NM in it and did the same. Again, the Tonberry was facing the far wall. Spammed Tab and BAM, there was the ???, ran over, grabbed it (still no aggro) and instant Warped out of there.

Anyone can do it if you're careful. Good luck to all those who tried and I hope this strategy for doors/aggro helps.
My own personal DUH moment

Ok, I just got the offering as 72 RDM/WHM. The darned spawn point wasn't up the first six times I've gone to the Temple so it's safe to say that I've spent a lot of time looking for it and I have a suggestion. Since several people have posted very good info about getting to the Den of Rancor / Temple of UGH (AKA the Temple of ARGH) zone, I won't repeat it. Just scroll down (or up) and look for the long posts ;).

Here's the map link again if you need it so you can follow along:

http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show&id=uggalepih_temple

Start looking in the 4 rooms closest to the Den of Rancor zone (third map down at the link above). See the nice four spawn rooms, so close and so cozy... See the next two spawn rooms, so very very close to the first four (just to the west). See how everyone seems to think that the best way is to brave the NM tonberry, pots and dolls in that big room that lies between the 2 rooms and the 4 rooms and the corridors on either side. Well, children, the shortest route may be direct but it can also be quite painful. I had to chainspell-tele my tail out of there the only time I tried to go through that room. Once I walked all the way out through the Den of Rancor, through Yhoater and in the main entrance of the Temple to get to the two west spawn rooms just to avoid the pain of that NM room. Then, one day, as I sat studying the map and fuming at the lack of spawn points in any of the rooms, I had my own personal DUH moment. Now listen closely...

On the map, note the one-way drop at K-7. After you check the 4 rooms on the east side, simply invis yourself and walk the long way around, up and around. There are no doors to open, just a drop and a bunch of left turns, and they're all normal Temple mobs. Bring prism powders just in case, but I found plenty of opportunities away from magic aggro mobs to reapply invis. If, like me, you don't find the spawn point in the 2 west rooms, then zone out into Yhoater at F-7 which places you in the same area as the outpost. From there it's a short walk back to the Den of Rancor zone. Rinse and repeat. Or again, if you're like me, rinse and repeat, repeat, repeat, etc.

Take note: before you drop down from the Temple terrace to go past the outpost in Yhoater, the mobs up on that terrace are the same level as the mobs inside the Temple, i.e. they may aggro you. I got aggro from a tonberry on the way down and proceeded to link every tonberry in my path on the way back to the Den of Rancor hehe.

Also note: if you're using the aggro and zone technique, the run to the zone from the west rooms is a LOT longer than the run on the east side. I had no trouble since getting caught by ancient magic was the only thing that could take down phalanx and stoneskin and actually damage me. Otherwise, I could check at least two doors with tonberries picking away at me. Ancient magic is all that made me run and scream like a little girl for the zone. Depending on your job and level, your mileage may vary.

Good luck to everyone (well better luck than mine at least)!

Pretty easy. Outpost warped to the Uplands then a quick run through the Den. It was in one of the first four rooms so I dropped the invis ran in and got it, took a beating from a tonberry, used Invincible and ran out to the Den. With the Warp home took about 5min.
Obtaining the offering
# Jan 10 2006 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I just finished getting my offering and thought I'd try giving a run down on what you need to do. First make sure you have 1 stack of prism powder, EVEN if you can cast invisible (in one form or another) because if you don't find it in the first 4 rooms, then you may have to trek past the NM and a magic jar which aggroes to magic of course. Second (which I thought I had, but apparently forgot to bring) some way to warp out. I went as a 40 whm/smn and I strongly recommend this to anyone else doing this. Why smn? Carby targetting tonberries that aggroed will hold it off for 2, maybe 3, seconds not enough time to really get out. No, I used carbuncle to open doors after I walked (Invisible) into the room. If you do this, only walk just barely into the room, take a look around inside, walk further in and carby will walk in, opening the door as he does.

Ok, to get there (I had to piece it together after the posts here didn't seem to match up, sorry guys) You have to enter the Den of Rancor. The entrance is at (J-7). I found http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/ to be most helpful as I don't have the map of the Den or the Temple. Also, the map of the temple to use at the above link is the 3rd from the top. The 4 tiny rooms at the left of the entrance and the 2 past the larger room are the spawn locations for it.

For getting it, as long as you're careful you shouldn't have any problems. Never drop invisiblity directly in front of a door as the tonberry inside may see you. You may need to get the timing down for this, but the best way to get in is (as SeraphDak mentioned) drop invisible start casting invisible/prism powder and open the door while you're still casting. Then slip just inside, look around without moving, if it's not there then move forward and let carby open the door. Rinse repeat. If you're unlucky enough to have to go past the NM to get to the last 2 rooms, do the same steps to open the first door, but only use prism powder. run in and get to the second door. This one can be pretty exciting to open since you gotta make sure all tonberrys are looking away. Also, the NM was hanging around the door when I did it. Make sure no one's looking, drop invis and put up another prism powder fast, while opening the door during the process. If you get through the door, as long as you don't cast a spell or stand in front of a door, you're home free as there are no tonberries in this hall. Dismiss carby and rest up if you're running out of mp. Use the same technique to open these doors and hopefully you'll find your offering.

If I missed something let me know and I'll add it. If you want a guide to the temple (It's too scary for me to do the run with you) on midgardsormyr, I'm Aarahs and I'll do my best to help.
Too easy

Tonberries around the doors might not be anywhere near the doors, so you don't have to worry too much about aggro. You can stand next to the door, open, tab around and move the camera around, and see the ??? from the outside. I found mine in the last of the last two rooms. You can open doors while casting Invis and before you actually turn invisible.
Incredibly Easy

So maybe i was extremely lucky, but it was incredibly easy. I went as 55RDM/19SMN:
- found the door that the ??? was behind
- went to where i couldn't get aggro and cast stoneskin, phalanx, blink, protect III, invisible and carbuncle
- waited til the tonberries and other mobs were at the other end of the hallway
- stood to the right of the doorway so no mobs could see me
- dropped invisible, opened door, applied prism powder (instead of casting invisible so no chance of magic aggro)
- ran inside
- waited til the tonberry was looking the other way, dropped invisible, clicked on the spot, got the offering and reapplied prism powder
- waited til i stopped shaking, waited til tonberry turned around, dropped invisible, open door, picked up my skirt and ran the hell out of the temple (on the way out the tonberry killed carby)
- used by Trick Staff and warped back to windy

I did get hit a few times, but got out with a few hundred or more HP.
Ok I'll try

Don't know if this is recent because of a patch, or just something nobody tried doing, but wyverns (and I assume by extension avatars, spirits, and jug pets) will open the doors if you position them just right. This is really only useful for getting *out* of the room, though. Basically what I did was face the door, drop invis, start recasting invis, and open the door while invis was casting. After invis takes effect, I walk in *just* inside of the door, so that Astre (my wyvern) is still outside the room. Check for a ???; if there isn't one, walk a bit farther into the room. Astre follows, and opens the door for me, so I don't have to drop invis (and get aggroed by the tonberry inside). I assume this works with avatars as well, though the MP drain may not make it useable (after all, you won't have carby mitts yet, obviously).

Hope this helps somebody, though!

Hi,

I ALSO have a story, and it's not a very pleasant one either.
(included are the positions of everything you need to know for those who really need them)

After spending a good day and a half leveling with some other Summoner buddies (and getting awesome exp I might add) I decided to head off to Temple of Ugalli-whatever and try for my Offering.

So I used the outpost warp to get to (I-8) of Yhoator Jungle, then I ran up to the entrance to Den of Rancor at (J-7) of Yhoator.

As soon as I zoned I quickly cast Sneak and Invis, and stuck to the right wall until I reached the zone to Temple of Ugalipeh (however it's spelt) at (K-9).

So to prepare myself for what was to come, I cast Blink, Protect, Shell, Stoneskin and Invis and headed on my merry way up the stairs that in front of me. From reading directions posted here, I checked out the first two doors at (K-8).
Now in order to do this you need to drop invis and run inside to look around the walls.

Only catch is, there are Tonberries in each of the rooms. THANKS FOR THE WARNING PEOPLE. You all mentioned about them being on the outside, and having to wait for them to move etc. but not that they appeared in such a closed-in area. PLUS, DO NOT take Invis off while directly in front of the door, cause even though you won't see them, the Tonberry will see YOU, and walk right through the door and start hacking away at you. Stand at the side, and move the camera to see if it's looking your way, then run in.
YES, you ACTUALLY have to go IN the room, you won't be able to see the "???" even if you open the door. You need to be inside the tiny little box, trapped with a Tonberry (that will aggro you even if you're 75) rubbing up against your butt.

So yeah, that info was left unmentioned... even my Summoner buddies only got around to telling me that after I had died 4 times trying to search the rooms frantically while they wooped my sorry bum.

If you're a Summoner doing this, it helps to have Carby out while you run around, because he will auto-attack anything that aggro's you, and give you a chance to run back to the zone.

So after losing about 4-5k of EXP I decided to meet up with my buddies again to hunt some IT bombs in Ifrit's Cauldron to gain back the loss. WELL, long story short, I died about 10 times... thankfully no de-level, but I spent a good 7 hours leveling today, and all I've got to show for it is 300 exp LOWER than what I had the night before -_- . (this was no one's fault btw, just really bad luck on my part)

After the party disbanded I decided to give the Offering one more go, and with my newfound knowledge I headed out once more, buffed up and gave it a go. Nothing in the first two rooms but aggro, got away to the zone safely thanks to Carby and Blink / Stoneskin... waited for MP and the Tonberries to go away, buffed up looked in the other 2 doors close-by in (K-8), nothing. So that only left one more area... the DREADED (I-9) spawn point.

Okay, so it's only about one block-of-map away from (K-8) HOWEVER you need to travel through a room with a door you can only open invis-less run in, CANNOT recast invis cause of magic pot aggro, which is filled with Tonberries. Lucky for me the first time through (before my exp party gone wrong in Ifrit's) someone had cleared the room of the green devils ( butsadly none of the rooms had the "???" and that meant someone took it earlier so no spawn again for 2 hours), but this time around the room was packed. So needless to say tons of Tonberry aggro sounds and Carby wails happened as I ran as fast as I could to the other two rooms in (I-9). Well I made to into one room, Tonberry inside it with it's damn Light Elemental, no "???", died, and lost my last 1k of exp I could handle for the night and logged out in San d'Oria.

I would bet 1 million gil that the "???" was just in the next room over.

I'll try again tommorow when I'm done cursing Square-Enix in my dreams.

Hope you all have better luck than I did.

- Sval

Thanks whoever it was that rated me down -.-

Dealing with the Tonberries
# Aug 12 2005 at 6:50 PM Rating: Decent
??? Spawns at the rooms located at I-9 and K-8.

Went in alone as a Redmage. Stoneskin, phalanx, blink, sneak invis. Went down the hall way to K-8 and canceled my invis. Agro and round up all the tonberries, open couple doors and also agro a couple more tonberries and drag them all to the close-by zone (L-10), Cast sleepga to sleep them all. Go down the hallway and check the rooms. If ??? not there, zone out.

For the further spawn point(I-9) i am assuming you can do the same there, but just more tonberries to drag on your tail. With some luck you should be able to do it with no problem.

After i got my ??? I hit my chainspell and warped. If you are not Redmage, then all u can do is zone, with some luck, you should be okay. If you died, well, at least you got what you wanted

Wow, great stories... But they are useless info for us who are trying to get the offering. Several people have asked the position and in none of your stories is anything helpful to help us find the offering. So if anyone with half a mind can you actually read and post the position of the offering so people can find it without searching for hours. Mind you it will be alot more uselful than the rest of the posts here.

oh boy do i have a story about this one

well someone in the LS mentioned something about a mitt run coming up soon, some old friends of ours were organizing it, neither of us had our offerings yet, later that night just as i was about to head to the temple and get mine she announced in LS that she just got hers, and i knew of the 2-3 hour respawn at by then it was already 1am, so i decided to head to the temple and log there to do it in the morn... and this is how it went

so i get there and im alone, it was one of my "on the fly" decisions to do this so i didnt really ask for any help, should have... but didnt, anyways so im at the zone past den of rancor, and im a bit scared because i only had a stack of each oils and powders, turns out thats way more than enough, realized that you dont even need oils in this area, and only used 3 powders

so anyways i throw up invis and get down to the granite doors and theres just one tonberry there, i went around to each of the door and tried to target the ??? without opening them like someone said... i couldnt, so i waited a bit, invis started to wear so i threw down another one, and as im watching the tonberry to wait til he turns around, he walks into one of the rooms... and i noticed that the ??? just happened to be in the romm he walked into, so of course i follow him.. the door shuts and he walks to the corner and faces the wall... i take off invis grab the offering open the door and put invis back up and get out of there, its almost like he knew what i was there for lol, couldnt believe how easy it was

so theres my story, got my offering all by myself and without any aggro at all

good luck to anyone trying to do this, hope you have as easy of a time as i did

# Jun 14 2005 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
Ok I just did this a few minutes ago tried a few different methods as a level 62 rdm everything still aggroe's there and cons as tough or higher to me.

To get there:
Head to Yhoater Jungle and go straight to the outpost there, their is a path way almost right behind it to the north, north east follow this pathway you will come to a opening, to the right is another pathway take this pathway and zone into Den of Rancor. In Den of Rancor cast sneak and invis and hug the right hand wall all the way to zone, it's a very short trip only had to cast sneak and invis once to go all the way through. Finally here you are in Temple of Uggalepih, throw on some invis and wonder up the stairs take your first left then another imediate left. You will see 4 granite doors these are the doors you have to check in.

Ok here's the 2 method's I tried:

First Method (didn't work)
I went in with a level 70 drk and we killed everything in sight to clear the area. Prob is tonberry's can be a pain and the drk ended up dieing in one of the fights. We also had to escape because of links. This way was rough the Iron Maidens aggro magic and the tonberrie's aggro site, we were constantly fighting off links and aggro.

Second Method (worked great and kind of fun)
I told the 70 drk I was going to try something else and that he could leave so he wished me luck asked for sneak and invis and was on his way. What I did from here as a rdm I threw up Blink Stoneskin and phalanx in the Den then zoned back into the Temple cast invis on myself and ran back to the area. All I did from here was check as many doors as I could sleep aggro (sleepga comes in handy) then run back to zone. Don't worry about training any body no one hangs out here unless they doing same thing you are. Repeat this till you finally find the ??? then get the hell outta there. I never died doing this but I dont' suggest trying with out at least having sleep or someone with sleep with ya.

I do believe the spawn time of the ??? varies but I think it's around 3 to 4 hours ><.

Hope this works out for ya happy hunting
