Definitely an upgrade from the Wyvern Perch I had been using

Gives +5 DMG, +6 STR, and +5 MND over my previous staff

I also ran a test with it that I like to do. I use SATA + Full Swing with 300%TP on Carnivorous Crawlers in Maze Of Shakhrami

Previously my record was 1275
With the new staff I hit 1410

Only cost 1.4 mil also, so that was definitely nice. I had been waiting for the price to come down for quite a while and it finally did

i finally got this staff after a long search for it. ive only seen two on AH in Seraph and i own one of those two. sleep rarely procs but it seems to do so at the best times.. i turn around stoneskin, enfeeble and whatnot during its sleep. sleep effect also works on undead. its a good solo weapon. hardest mob i tried it out with were Steelshells. i managed to kill those without having to sleep (by casting) or having to nuke. went out for a test run to see how hard i can hit with it and pulled off a 1545dmg full swing without SA/TA or food. i believe the MND+6 is ntended to help with Retribution along with the STR+6. when im farming i almost always pull off 500-600dmg Retributions. a sleep proc can easily be translated into 1000+dmg with a Tier IV nuke without having to worry about spell interuption.

only bad thing is it cost me 10mil to get it....

Does it look like a monster signa? Or a different pattern?

I bought one of these from the AH for 1mil last night. The only 2 that were sold on the AH was back in '04 for 800k.. so I was happy that the price wasn't too outrageous (given the current inflation).

I'm not sure I'm all that thrilled with it. Since it does have a higher DPS than my Kirin's Pole, I guess it's better. I also have a Gravedigger and that certainly rocks for damage. I will have to try the Somnus Signa a bit more.

Oh, btw, the Sleep rarely procs. Maybe 1 time in 15 hits. I think if it proc'ed more, it would be very cool.

This also drops from The Hills Are Alive BCNM

I bought one of these lastnight for about 3 mil and I have to say it is well worth it. I like it much better than my Kirin's Pole. They both have the same delay but the +2 more damage and the +6 strength from the signa makes it the best melee weapon for a blm in the game.

There is only 2 on my server as far as I know and the other sold on the AH for 1 gil to the same person. So when I came accross this I figured why not? and I bought it.

MND is not only cure strength, but it's also magic def and bad status resist. So yeah a blm could use mnd much like any other job who wants to take less magic damage and have sleep and poison not stick. :P

I'm no where near this level, but I notice when I melee and leave my Dark Staff equipped (just to take a few swings with it), that the Additional Effect: Darkness happens ALOT during melee. Sometimes as often as 1/2 or 1/3 of the swings.

On such a long delay weapon, if you could sleep something anywhere near that much you'd have a pretty valuable item.

You're probably thinking that BLMs hardly do any melee damage, but that's not the point. It's that if you're a versatile BLM at the level to use Somnus Signa, you'd have Spirit Taker. Noting that this WS returns exactly the amount of MP it does in damage, and that the damage is amplified >50% and accuracy ensured with a well-positioned sneak attack, which comes from the THF sub you should be farming with already, it's a natural conclusion that you would be interested in the weapon that gives you the highest possible melee damage so that you can have the most MP to cast with.

How much should this thing be worth? Somewhere between the ~70k wyvern perch and the insanely expensive 4th or 5th stage of the relic staff - but figure in the lack of BLMs ready to solo like this and the difficulty of the Wyrm battle. It could be anywhere from 500k (sleep effect is a ++ for a slow weapon) and 2 million, almost like one of the lower Kirin souvenirs.

Well, it's certainly to solo, and depending on how frequent the Sleep effect is, it may actually be half-decent for Black Mage soloing/meleeing, when a Black Mage may actually decide to dabble in such things...

In the same respect, why would a BLM need MND raise, apart from a WHM sub?

Technically you can sub a melee class with a BLM, reasons unknown.

It's almost as though they tried to make a weapon that overcame some of the black mages primary weaknesses...

62 damage at only 402 delay? Fine, if you don't like it send the next one you get my way. Traktor > Odin server. :D
