Scooping Scooping Scooping
# Jul 31 2004 at 11:14 AM Rating: Decent
And so it begins...

NPC = Mei in Rabao is /shouting all sorts of goldfish talk...

And here comes about 100 people all dressed in their pretty gear... and sure enuf people are scooping alll around me...

So it's not a joke/hoax... I havent bother'd to do the prior quests regarding gold fish scooping, but i'm very curious if the goldfish are going to be lettere'd or someting, like the old Easter Quest, with some elaborate sequence or something. If anyone knows.. let us know.

"also has the effect of +1 Gold Fish Scooping Ability"

I was replying to that post,.. about +1 goldfish scooping,.. it just says "enhances goldfish scooping ability". It's not like the vagabonds hose where it says HP while healing +1.
hidden stats?

It seems to decrease the potency of sneak cast on you. I was in Altepa trying to get the crystal, and my whm kept having to cast it every few seconds. he suggested taking the Yukata off, so i did, he cast sneak again, and this time it lasted long enough to get the crystal and run back to my pt.

That is because Sneak simply lasts for a random ammount of time, and theoreticaly, it lasts longer if you are not wearing any clothing. Has nothing to do with this item.

I would agree with you, but i had replaced it with my centurion's armor, not totally taken it off. It also did it to our pt members as well, and when they replaced it with their normal armor, the time went back to being resonable.

Goldfish scooping is a type of game done in Japan around this time, it involves using a paper net to catch goldfish in this little pool to take them home. The difficult part is that once the paper net touches the water, its basically useless, so you need to be fast and have some skill.

Also here are a few stats on items in the most recent update that are probably related to this event:

Goldfish Bowl~ Weapon slot. Rare/Exclusive
A tiny bowl filled with water. Used for storing goldfish.

Super Scoop~ Weapon Slot
A round, flat scoop used for catching goldfish. The bast parchment on its surface rips easily.

Tiny Goldfish~ Item
This red, minuscule freshwater goldfish from the Far East is often the dinner of larger carnivorous predators.

Black Bubble Eye~ Item
As its name implies, the area around the eyes of this freshwater goldfish from the Far East is round and swollen.

Lionhead~ Item
This freshwater fish from the Far East is plump and difficult to scoop. It is easily recognized by its lack of a dorsal fin.

I have seen nothing reguarding the other items, where did you get that info?

Not that I am saying you are wrong or anything. I just want to know where you got that info. ^^

Supposedly(meaning it is just speculation and I could just be misleading totally ><)in the CoP expansion pack there will be a mini game involving goldfish scooping for prizes like gil and various items ranging from Potions to actual gear.Once again though, mere speculation, nothing confirmed.
Is this it?

I came into Summerfest a little late and I'm not sure if I have to do any more quests for it. I have the Onoko yukata and the Lord's Yukata. Im not really interested in the fans since those can be bought, but is there any more gear or anything else I can get by doing more of these quests?

Sometimes you can get Chocobo tickets. Which is very worth it to me. As chocobos can be up to 1000 gil at crags on a bad day.
RE: Is this it?
# Jul 29 2004 at 2:21 PM Rating: Decent
Yea, they are worth it. I was in Jeuno this morning, and a Japanese player was /shouting that he was selling Chocobo Tickets for 800 gil.

"800 gil??!!" I thought to myself. "There's NO WAY I'm paying 800 gil for one Chocobo Ticket!"

I ran to the stables, and my chocobo cost 858. Smiley: banghead

Apparently, those tickets sell for 10 K a stack at the Auction House, too.

{Hmmm...} stop banging your head, cause had you bought a ticket in jeuno, it would have actually cost you 880, remember?

RE: Is this it?

i think what he means is that if he had of bought the ticket for 800 gil off the guy he would of had to have paid the tax...which = 880 gil....the stable charges 858....thats a 22 gil diffrence...not much mind you but enough

plus, the amount it costs depens on your level and how many people have recently used a chocobo. i'm at level 62 on Pandemonium and in times when many japanese players are online, chocobos at the crag cost up to 2000 gil for me. any chocobo ticket even for 1000 gil would be worth it.
Goldfish Scooping

The goldfish scooping thing is a little bit of humor for the japanese. A traditional activity in japanese culture during summerfest is the use of a small, fragile peice of paper fashioned into a flat kind of paddle. This delicate paper tool, called a "poi" is used to try and scoop goldfish out of a pool. If you manage the difficult task of getting a fish and not tearing the poi, you get to keep the fish. Kids are usually given a few fish even if they don't succeed.

I doubt that this is actually functional in the game, it's likely to be just part of the festivity. Nonetheless... I'm keeping my Lord's Yukata for my main char and the Ladies' for my second char. They're better looking than the standard n00b armor, and they still work for every job.

If you all don't know what this summerfest is then I'll explain it. So far all I know is the enhanced goldfish scooping doesn't do anything. It's just kind of a joke I'm guessing.

Anyway, the summerfest is an actual festival in Japan that is happening right now. They wear these traditional type clothing at this festival. The quest is similar to what they do there also. You go in couples into a forest and find the end. People sometimes dress up as ghosts and try to scare the couple so the girl will usually cling to the guy.

Well I'm not 100% positive but I think I'm close. Anyway they also do gold fish scooping at this festival where you have a net that is made out of thin paper. If you are too fast the net will break when you try to catch the fish. If you are too slow the net will get too wet and the net will break. If you happen to pickup the fish and put it into a bowl in your other hand then you get to keep it or get a prize I'm not sure which. Anyway that's the summerfest I believe.

You obtain this by doing the summerfest quest, you have to turn int two items you got from female charactrers, (Elvaan Female, Hume Female, Tarutaru Female and Mithra) and two items you got from male characters, (Elvaan Male, Hume Male, Tarutaru Male and Galka) then you will get the Lord's Yukata. You cannot turn in yourown item. Don't try to just buy the items because you need teh key item Picture of that race to turn in with the item. Hope that helps ^^

I don't think it needs to be two M and two F, just people of different race/gender than yourself. I'm a mithra, I did the quest with a hume M (to get Omina Yukata), and then a taru M, galka, taru F, and elvaan M (total 3M 1F) to get my Ladies Yukata. It just has to be different race/gender combinations (can't do two taru Ms, etc, and can't do someone the same race/gender as yourself).

From what I hear, Goldfish scooping will be introduced in the expansion. Pretty good advertising eh? Give us a fairly easy (but somewhat lengthy as we can only do one per VD day) quest for an item which is only useful if we give them more money ;)
Hey, I figure it looks kinda nice (better than most lvl 1 armor) and I know I'll have to get the expansion anyways so I just swallow the red pill.
used?

If you look at the picture, you'll see a white border around it. That means its a "+1" version of something.

it is not +1 it is enhances goldfishscooping ability. In effect this means your scoops dont break as often as when not using this.
