I bought this lance for about 5k when I was level 60, thinking ahead. It's rarely up on the AH and when it is, it's snatched up. When it was 5k, I think people were buying it to NPC for a nice profit. Regardless, I've recently hit 70.

I went down into the necropolis to solo some Lichs just to be sure I could and that Donryu wouldn't steal hate. Turned out magnificently.

Out of curiosity, I invited a recently lvl70 MNK friend of mine down to see how much faster he could kill the lichs than me. We attacked basically simultaneously, but subbed WAR for the sake of expedience. Both had access to Zerk and Warcry before the fight. We killed the bones at roughly the same time, though his WS obviously did more dmg than mine.

The Bourdonasse is far from useless- at least at lvl70. The staff is nice if you REALLY NEED the MP you can generate via WS. If not, I'd go Bourdonasse for the sake of the additional skill in polearm, myself. But that's just me. I'm quite pleased with my purchase, given its usefulness and extreme cheapness.
blunt spear? who needs it

hmmm... this appealed to me, but the WS's dont do crap... i think i'll stick to My staffs and using Spirit taker to replenish my MP... bam! i can solo the same mob for another 10 minutes! overall i suggest just lvling your staff, we have a B+ with it. and im sure theres alot of you DRG who like to solo ^.^
price?
# Jun 28 2005 at 11:49 PM Rating: Decent
the price for this has gone down dramatically on my server. like 40k down from some 200k is it a common drop or is it just a waste of gil? and no hidden fx?

Well see, this drops from "Eye of the Storm" if memory serves correct.

Due to the recent popularity of the 5x BLM KBCNM30 Mercs, drops from Eye of the Storm and Operation Desert Swarm have gone down in value.

The BLM Mercs offer 100% victory, fast fights, and usually (on my server) end up with less loot than the orb user per round.
Staff all the way

I had one of these and sold it. Bottom line is this friends, I was using a staff on bones in Eldeime and it was only at 125 skill (Lvled it since then to 136 and I will continue to do so until maxed) and I was doing WAY more damage with it than with my lance (about 225+ skill). Lances are NOTdesigned to fight bones, they suck against things that are weak against blunt damage. I was using just a regular lvl 60 staff and I was doing great. DRG's should learn to use both staves and swords as secondary weapons and know when to use them. When I can, I plan on getting a Primate Staff. Its about the same price as this lance (On Bahamut) plus you have a great staff that is going to work well against bones and pots. It's just not worth spending 200-400+k (depending on server) when you could get a better staff for cheaper or just as much. Just my opinion, try it out for yourself because the one thing I know for sure about this game is the only results you can really ever believe are your own.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you.

With Bourdonasse I hit those Spartoi Warriors and Mages like a beast.

The only thing gimp about this lance is the Blunt effect doesnt carry over to Weapon Skills.

But Wait... you can politely ask your WHM to cast 18 MP Banish I 2 seconds before you use your Weapon Skill, and the resistance will be lifted for a brief time.

It is also a lot easier to make SC with Lances than with Staves.

But I agree, people should go with what they like best instead of following what everyone else uses.

A Bourdonasse is an elaborately painted lance designed to shatter on contact. Used in Jousting contests.

edit: Recently i was thinking (not my strong suit) and i think something has been overlooked with this weapon. In Sky most of the mobs you fight are weak to blunt weapons, ergo this weapon is extremely favorable for sky hunts. No penalty for WS like bones just pure damage bonus for your regular swings. Beat the crap out of those pots and dolls, Blunt weapon + blunt wyvern dmg= death.

When I was told that this weapon does blunt damage it didn't even register....I was like a kid in a candy store. I just couldn't believe it! But after reading that it suffers from a -50% on WS damage....NOT good. so now I don't know any more. any advise?? I was planning on getting Col. Lance, but changed my mind when blunt damage entered the picture. I think now I'm reverting back to Col. Lance. Blunt damage sure is good against bone....but that's about all its good for. -50% is a DAMN LOT when u considder DRGs aren't exactly mopping the floor with the mobs. SATA would be one solution I suppose. I don't know how many undead I'll be fighting to warrant this. If it's an issue endgame, I'll make the switch. I do plan on getting Ice Lance +1 as my final lance though.
I think for all intents and purposes then, I would get this after I get Impulse Drive, and when I'm at the stage where I'm leveling off of undead. At the moment I'm all over the place, so I'll see where I wind up.

The -50% damage on WS is only when fighting bones. In other words, it counts as Blunt weapon for normal hits against them, but for WS it still counts as Piercing.

OK firstly i never understood why people wanted to exp off of bones to begin with. Such a pain with the AOE drain and blind. However not only does this weapon give your polearm a bonus against bones but your wyvern gets a blunt damage bonus against bones (oddly enough it doesnt take a penalty against crabs though).
SO all though your WS may be taking a penalty you will be making up for it with DOT. And Dragons chain very well with wheeling thrust and impulse drive. SATA either skill and you wont exactly be hurting for WS damage against bones.

Edit: Oh and as far as lvling Staff it certainly is worthwhile. If not for bones, at 68 DRG/mage has access to SpiritTaker to recharge that small MP pool. This weapon is rather expensive and a drg/mage acting as support healer with a Wyvern Perch and a Relic Helm is quite a powerhouse.

Are DRGs the best against bones? NO. But they certainly arent as bad as everyone thinks. DRGs have the option of getting around their Main weapon weakness very nicely, few jobs have that option. It isnt as though MNKs are able to equip a weapon to help them through all those lvls where crabs are very popular.
Im constantly amazed at ppl who play other jobs and come in and say "DRGs should and shouldnt do this, dont try and change it." Hush! Positive reenforcement is better than trying to shoot down someone for trying something new. Ppl told me that DRGs had trouble getting parties. What a crock i never have trouble getting parties and often shoot down invites cause i would rather solo for exp.

Ignores defense

-50% damage on WS....

does this include Wheeling Thrust? Cuz Wheeling Thrust already ignores defense, does this apply to bones too?

If you want to do good damage vs bones just train up your staff. DRG is a B in staff for a reason. You'll do blunt damage vs bones without the 50% penalty with WS. Staves have around 20% lower DMG on average, but take away the 50% penalty on WS with polarms and I think you'd more than make that up.

DRG Staff is B-, by the time you reach bones in "end game" you're missing 25.2 (one point of skill is equal to 0.9 accuracy) accuracy vs your polearm. You're being constantly blinded by Horror Cloud AE. Your only option to create Light is Fusion.

This makes you difficult to Skill Chain with. You'd need a special pt configuration just to make things work, and you'd be getting very slow exp.

Bones are not for DRG, Boyahda Tree, Kuftal Tunnel, Ro'Maeve, and Tu'Lia are your friends 68-75.

i agree with you there, i hate it hwo many peoplego out of their way to make their job do things specifically they are not suited for by design, unless you really must. drg arent good against undead period, and certain you can still get to 75 by going else where even wit this handy cap.

I agree that lvling staff for exp bones is stupid but before you can get heavy lance or bourdonasse you may want to do some damage on some enemies like Lich for papyrus and mission 5-1. SO lvling it isnt wasted time, atm I'm lvling staff just for fun since I could as well get a bourdonasse if I wanna hit bones.
Im sure a drg will do very nice damage against bones with this weapon and can still make good chains.
Ive never lvled on bones but I can imagine hoe much aoe blind and aoe drain must suck so im sure weapons in sky/romaeve is a better option:)
True

It does blunt dmg on bones, WS is still penalized -50%. I guess as far as exp pt "end game" goes it's a nice bonus, if you can manage to get one. It's not exactly a godsend with WS still weakened, it won't make DRG ideal for bone pt.

I'm not sure if this spear is confirmed blunt or not, but I know that the rangers got a blunt-tip arrow with the expansion too.

I've seen pics of DRGs using it against bones, using FRAPS or a simular program, the DMG was on screen. The DRG was hitting for about 115ish on AVG.

If I can find the pic I'll post it.

And BTW, Bourdonasse wasn't added in CoP or the update before it. It's been here for awhile. I've seen it on Alexander AH for about two months.
