Clamming items
# Mar 30 2009 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
Did some clamming today for the first time. Want to add some items to the list.
I found Oxblood, Titanictus shell, Lacquer tree log, Maple log, and petrified log (3). Also noticed a pattern to getting bucket busters. Seems every time I found an item that npc'ed for more than 1k gil I would get a bucket buster on the next item dug unless I turned my bucket in immediately. That happened at least a dozen times during the day, (Yeah I know I'm a slow learner.) The only time that didn't happen was when my bucket had enough room to hold the heaviest item. That time I got the petrified log on the first dig after the bucket change. Next item was the lacquer tree log so I went and cashed in even though I still had quite a bit of room left on that bucket.
The good drops come mostly in the 100-150 and 150- 200 range.
All the new items in this list are 6 ponze items.

There's an NPC (Pohka Chichiyowahl) on Purgonorgo Isle who is basically hidden behind some shrubbery, and she sells only a Tarutaru fishing rod and a S.H. Fishing rod.

The Tarutaru fishing rod will break on ANYTHING you try to catch here no matter what bait you use, and the S.H. Fishing rod will barely make it.

The NPC is pretty much useless except for selling the clamming items you don't feel like taking with you back on the Manaclipper.

"check" the bucket?
# Nov 15 2004 at 3:29 AM Rating: Decent
this might sound like a stupid question, but is there a way to "check" your bucket to see if you're getting close to the limit? not only did i waste 500g, but also close to an hour (and lost several bibiki slugs) needless to say (but here i go anyway) i was more than a little frustrated.

yeah i find that if u check the bucket as if top turn it in and u select "i got a few more clams in me"...she will tell u the weight...si as u put stuff in the bucket go back n check the weight thatsbeen added the u know the constant weight of that 1 item...do this until u get a list of the different weights of each item and post it on thi site somewher ^^ just throw ya boi a lil credit for the idea at least

Not a clamming guide
# Apr 29 2005 at 1:24 AM Rating: Decent
#1 Clamming is not profitable, at least on my server.

#2 If you are less than level 50, there is a good chance you will die at the clamming grounds or on the Manaclipper. Carry Silent Oils and don't heal in front of clots.

Once you exit the Manaclipper and talk to Toh Zanikki (and pay 500 gil), you recieve a key item Clamming Kit with a bucket that can hold 50 ponzes (this is a unit to measure weight). By finding a clamming point and clicking on it, you will clam and get some sort of item. Each item has a weight (in ponzes), and exceeding the limit of that bucket will cause it to break, thus losing your clams. At any point you can check with Toh to see how much you have in your bucket, and/or have Toh wrap up your current catch.

On top of this, there are bucket upgrades. As far as I found, it is *46. That means to get the 100 p bucket you need to turn in a 46 p catch, and for 150 p bucket turn in a 146 p catch. I tested 44 and 46, never tested 45...maybe that works. I can't say. The highest I went was 150 ponze bucket, and a rock broke me just like that.

So here are the weights I found; I am sure there are more, especially on the higher level buckets. I never got the bucket-breaker igneous rock till bucket #2:

Jacknife = 11
Pebble = 7
Bibiki Slug = 3
Fish Scales = 6
Pamtam Kelp = 6
Goblin Armor = 6
Seashell = 6
Igneous Rock = 35
Shall Shell = 6
Broken Willow Rod = 6
Turtle Shell = 6

There are 4 clamming beaches, one for each cardinal direction. You land from the Manaclipper at the north beach, and there is one point there. East and west beach each have 2 points, and south has 3. The points do not move and respawn in about 20 seconds. I have not noticed a change in items per point, so I always clammed the north shore point which is within a stones throw from Toh.

Clammin is interesting, but not lucrative. Seeing the tours is great too, till you get an EP Kraken that hears you. I think a decent size LS could have fun here making a competition of it, but besides that only clam if you are bored and want to stop and smell the roses.

Be careful that you don't fill the bucket too full. I put in three items and it broke the bottom. ended up having to start over while surrounded by a kraken and other unnice things at only lvl 33
