Leaping Boots

Got boots on first try first LL spotted. I used a RNG/NIN. Many of my LS guys have been hunting for awhile now. I do suggest getting a RNG for scan and doing it late at night, nailed her at 0300 EST. I even hit / on mistake and walked over to her to get kill.

You can think of it more as supply and demand. The price will go down if more people have them, price goes up if more people need them. Farming isnt really killing much, they still go for 250,000 gil. I dont know what your talking about when mentioning crystals, i've seen fire crystals go for 1000 or 2500 in bastok, just depends on how many there are up for sale. eventually everythings price will go down anyways, but thats true in real life, things dont keep their value over time. The farmer then has money, and spends it on something else that has lots of vaule is and is being farmed. How do you make 500,000 gil for a smn you want to buy? If you know, let me know some good ways to make money really fast. cus gil drops from quaravs arent cutting it. Please dont use the term noob, i would assume that if you spent enought time to make a level 50 character you must know something about the game, im just sick of people over using that term in diablo.

and no, i dont farm myself, just workin on leveling my whm/blm.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 23 2003 at 3:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Due to the fact many noobs decide to farm an sell an farm an sell stuff like this an crystals over an over an over an over AGAIN! The market value is dropping rapidly. Go back to your EQ farming days an let our economy alone, it was better when we didn't have half of every EQ server join us.

ok

I have did the same thing for 5 hours with a friend. We both are high level 30+. I fought Lizzy 4 times in 5 1/2 Hours. As well as my friend. Yes, they do spawn in F-8 and G-8 in S Gustaberg. If you are high level, why do you need to kill everything. no crystals, no conquests points. The exact time is long, all I can say. 1 other person who I seen did obtain 2 pairs which has put them in AH.

A little piece of advice, patience is the key to gaining the boots.
Some suggestions

I hunted lizzy in Caitsith a few days ago on a 30 war/15 sam. Took me 25 hours across 3 days, about 8 hours a day, to get the boots. Over that time I saw 19 lizzy's. I killed 14 of them. Generally, I think I was pretty unlucky. Most people get it within 7-10 kills or less. But I have some information for anyone who would want to attempt the camp.

Firstly, there is no specific place where lizzy spawns. I've seen her pop all across the area of F-8. GENERALLY, she pops closer to the eastern side of that grid section, but that's NOT because she's more common there. It's only because the lizard pops are timed for less time in that area of the grid and there are more places for lizards to spawn there.

Second, there is no specific time where she pops either. Across the the 25 hours I camped her, it was a full month of Vana'Diel time and the spawns were fairly consistent; that's the only evidence I have for you.

Third, the rock lizards are the only placeholders for lizzy. I have no solid evidence for this, but I advise you not to run around annihilating everything just so you dont steal exp from lower levels who hunt there. My theory is that each monster species has its own spots of spawn. Lizzy pops when she is chosen out of a lottery whenever a rock lizard is about to spawn. This can take 15 minutes, it could take 2 hours. I've seen both.

There are a few ways you can go about the camp. High level japanese players, particularly rangers, like standing in a single place and checking their wide scan frequently. I saw a level 46 ranger stand on a rock in the eastern part of F-8 for a solid 17-18 hours shooting everything he saw. I ran in circuits around the entire area, killing all lizards.

Having a thf improves your chances, but not by much. The only real important class to have here is ranger for wide-scan. If you are doing this camp, I highly suggest you take a level in ranger as your sub if it isn't your main.

Having provoke is also extremely useful. This is one of the most farmed creatures in the entire game, so being quick to respond is very important. I would suggest you save your provoke until you see lizzy. It would suck if you ran into her and couldn't get her because your timer was still counting down.

Finally, be polite and patient during the camp. There will be a lot of people coming through, most of them in direct competition with you. Don't be bitter if they find lizzy before you. I remember when lizzy spawned right behind me, and a 60 drg who was just running by super jumped it from a mile away. At times like this you'll want to give up but don't. If you're in it for the money, then I highly suggest you find a partner or two. This will greatly increase your chances, especially if you have a ranger. If you are going after the boots because of the stats, like me, then you will need a friend that you can trust to camp with you.

I hope my info helped. Happy hunting, all.

Something very important I think you all should know. First of all, Leaping Boots are "exclusive" items, meaning you are only allowed to carry or HAVEone pair. This even applies if your pair is stashed away in your mog safe. I realized this because I myself have a pair and I wanted to obtain another one to sell for money. First however, I wanted to see if I could bid very little money for another pair since I've seen them bought for 1 gil, 7k gil, 200k gil, and even 777,777k gil. The auction house however, didn't allow me to bid because I "cannot have more than one of these items or my inventory may be full" (which it wasn't, I checked and retried). I tried unequipting them AND storing them but the same thing happened. Only when I put them up for sale was I allowed to even bid for another pair. Therefore I'm sad to say that those of you who've been looking for another pair while already having one have been wasting all your time....correct my if im wrong.

You are wrong.

Why? Because exclusive means the item cannot be dropped. Leaping Boots can be dropped. They are rare, meaning you can only have one.

no YOU are wrong
you can drop exclusive items
you just can't trade them.

actually you both are partially right. They are rare, and when they meant no drop, it didn't mean it's undroppable. No Drop is a term from EQ that also applies to FFXI in that it is an item that cannot be sold or given away, only destroyed. Oh, and for the love of God lets not get into another "FFXI IS NOT EQ!!!!!!!!!" argument, as I have already seen countless threads dedicated to this forever repeating (and none-the-less stupid) argument.
Saw it three times no drop p_q

YAY! YAY! I GOT MY LEAPING BOOTS TONIGHT! XD

I was with like 10+ high lvls, and I just stumbled upon lizzy! Both times I've found Lizzy, she's been located in the SW corner of the square, back behind the rock areas, most people don't look for her there, I've only seen Lizzy 3 times, and fought her twice, so I guess I'm lucky, I found out Sunday around like 4 - 6 AM the area is completely barren sometimes... I got the boots around 5 AM on a saturday, this is all EST time btw. I was also in a group with a lv. 18 THF... Grouping definitely helps, especially if it's a non-greedie person just wanting to be nice, so go harrass your linkshell buddies for assistance! ^_^

I'm never selling these boots, even if I find better, they're like... probably one of the most significant things I'll ever do with my life lol.

what do these boots do?
So, do tell, what is the big deal?
# Dec 13 2003 at 10:48 PM Rating: Default
Okay
Leaping Lizzy
is a Lizard that spawns when a certain number of lizards have been killed.
is found around the steep, green-topped hill in SouthGust.
is the obsession of many people.

Spawn of leaping lizzy has nothing to do with night time conditions. To increase your chances, get in a party of three, have two people patrolling the high area near the rock, and one patrolling the low area below it. It spawns most often in the high area, but once in awhile on the road in the low area. My party fought it 3 times in a row while everyone stood by and watched. 240K at jeuno AH divided by 3 is worth it, esp since having 3 will almsot gaurantee you will get to fight it.
Must have the boots
# Dec 09 2003 at 8:47 PM Rating: Good
Oh my goodness. I must obtain the boots of wonderfullness now. Some people say her spawn relates to moon phase and others say "no". Let us post moon phases that we sight Lizzie under to search for a pattern.

I saw a lvl 60 kill him so then timed his spawn for 2 hours later and sure enough got him easily

But the 3rd time he never spawned, I waited about an hour and I was the only one camping the area for him, but he never spawned.

It's not ALWAYS a 2 hour spawn

Just some fyi
2:24 nothing dropped
4:33 nothing dropped
6:54-7:45 never spawned

That means it is not a timed spawn. Timed spawns show up like clockwork. Apparently based on the info in this thread lizzy is a random pop affected by the moon cycles.

Didnt know that these boots were worth much and I was gonna just use them or even toss them, I got them on my first try, I was just on a chocobo going to bastok, was checking the monsters in the area, and it read ungaugable, I killed her and got the boots ^.^

I only hope this gives you hunters out there some hope of finding your own pair.

also a friend of mine was out there looking for a whole day looking for the boots and got them.

I've been able to kill Leaping Lizzy 4 times now. However, I have still not received the precious item that she drops. Her appearance is totally random. I have killed her in the wee hours of the morning to 12:00 noon. I'll keep it up though. One day those boots will be mine!

Ok, Ive been Lizzy hunting for several days now. Ive pretty much got it down to a science.

#1 Lizzy alway spawns around the grass-topped mesa in the F-8/G-8 area.

#2 Kill everything - not just lizards. All those creatures spawn from the same points - trust me, Ive spent hours watching. Kill them all. The one exception is the quadav campfire nearby - only quads will spawn there.

#3 Ive killed Lizzy quite a few times now - and shes hasnt dropped the boots (yes Im a thief). I got one thing off her once and that was a lizard skin =P Ranger-Thief combos will have, by far, the best chances of finding her and getting the boots to drop.

#4 Just move around alot - watch everywhere - spin the camera constantly. Its a total hassle and makes you wonder if its even worth it - but after an hour or so of looking - you will find her...which leads me to...

#5 Once you've found her - Provoke or use a ranged attack immediately if you can. Theres no room to breathe when it comes to actually claiming her. Provoke has been my best friend when looking for her - as often it will beat a Dia cast if you are quick enough. I only sub warrior when Im looking for Lizzy.

I hope some of this sheds some light on the issue. I hope one day to get a pair of these damn boots myself.

Good luck and happy hunting.

i've seen lizzy before but i didnt get to kill it, some high level *** got it but its around the tall skinny mountain with the only practical green u seen in bastok. kill all rock lizards u find and it might show up. i dont know how long it takes to show up but i've waited about 2 hours and didnt see it but today i saw it within hour and 30 minutes. id say it was real easy to kill but you should have provoke, or a long ranged weapon if u want to snag it before anyoneelse
THF Tip...
# Nov 27 2003 at 7:57 PM Rating: Decent
Only obvious tip I can give you is that if you're a thief atleast you have that increased item drops ability that's always active... so if you're a THIEF & a RANGER, you're definitely in luck with your skills for hunting this.
RE: THF Tip...
# Nov 29 2003 at 1:43 AM Rating: Default
It doesn't help being a thief too much. My buddy and I are both lvl 15 thieves. We've gone out to that area twice (f-8 to g-8). Over several game days time, my buddy managed to fight lizzy three times (I never did even see her) and he never got the boots. They must be VERY rare if treasure hunter doesn't even help much. At lvl 15 killing the monsters around there doesn't do squat for exp so it's just a huge waste of time unless you get the boots. And there is always LOTS of competition out there. I've decided to ***** the wait and just save up the money if need be. At least by collecting junk and selling it I get good exp at the same time. I figure either way, I'll get the boots in the same amount of time :-).
RE: THF Tip...
# Dec 01 2003 at 7:52 AM Rating: Default
In my experience if you are much higher level than the mob the chance of a drop on it decreases dramatically. It is actually better to hunt stuff in a group as every member of your party has a chance on it dropping.

Where you ask?
# Nov 26 2003 at 10:34 AM Rating: Default
I heard it was just the western part of S Gustaburg. A ranger there was using his can ability to find it. They really should have made these items quest or no drop. :(
F-8 or G-8?
# Nov 25 2003 at 12:54 PM Rating: Decent
I heard Leaping Lizzy appears in the NW corner of F-8 in South Gustaberg, yet... others say G-8 in South Gustaberg, others say in the Fumaroles... so where is Leaping Lizzy? Just follow the lv. 50 Japanese players and hope to find it before they do?
