I've spent most of my spare time (usually bored or feeling emo :P) camping this pesky little bugger. Up until the time i quit playing, say 7 months or so ago, i was 2/ 110+. I would spend countless hours a day spamming Widescan and killing every bunny in sight. Made a few friends, had conversations with JeJ about how much of an A-hat he was for not letting me have his charm more often... I mean, we were on best-friend terms pretty much. This really has no significant value, but i just thought i would be interesting to let you know how much JeJ hates me. <3 Nevergone
Well probablly you'll all hate me but I'm 1/1 I was Thf 15/ Rng 1 First I was camping Hoo Mujuu the Torrent with my blm /thf but someone attacked him first so I decided to go camping JEJ. I arrived and start killing Forest Hares 2 other persons arrived but it seemed they went afk or something 'cause when he appeared they didn't even moved. So I started killing him, but he almost killed me :s I was left with 22 Hp and I even used the THF 2h. Finnaly I just saw Daikan obtains the Rabbit Charm ^^ I was so excited. Good Luck for all of you who camp it hope the same happens to everyone^^
So i begin camping this guy LFP as THF45/NIN22 soetime around 10pm. Killing all the silly rabbits for about 2 hrs... some guy runs up, kills it, gets the charm. I tell him that that was pretty frustrating, but still... im happy for him. he says that TH2 does make a difference and that he has seen it drop 2 consecutive spawns. knowing wat i do about this faggot rabbit, i doubt him and tell him that GL! im busy!. so i continue camping him.. growing weary as ever of killing sensless bunnies and having 2k stacks of rabbit hides, 2+ hrs later... theres the lil bugger sitting right beside me. Unconfindent as ever, i SA+ viperbite him killing him in one blow for a <too weak> dmg of 297, JEJ falls to the grond helplessly with this message following...
Exes defeats Jaggedy-Eared Jack You find a rabbit charm on Jaggedy-Eared Jack Exes obtains a rabbit charm.
So i scream, celebrate with a feint cry knowing that i have victoriously gotten VE,LL and now this looser. woot! GL to all campers. 1/14
i did have enough courtesy leaving a note by his body that read: Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids.

So I'm running around killing random things, JEJ pops out of no where, i know i can't kill him but i give it a shot, use 2hr get him around 15% health, He gets a Critical, then uses Whirl claw, at this point I have about 10 health left, so i know I'm screwed. He kills me, I return to HP witch happened to be the outpost, so i was right there, but he was already Full health again, so i didn't go for it again. Lvl 47 Rdm comes and kills him, no drop
There are three hares and one of them is the place holder for JEJ. If the placeholder is not killed JEJ will not spawn. You must check by the outpost and the spots slightly east and south of area where JEJ spawns for the hares.
Each hare respawns every 5 minutes. JEJ will respawn every 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on how well you kill the hares.
I just started to hunt JEJ and in one day I killed JEJ 8 times. Yet still no drop. I would kill JEJ log-off and log-in after about 40 minutes and then start killing the three hares. After about 15 minutes JEJ spawned. Continued for 7 more times about 9 hours all together.
I have camped JEJ for countless hours now, for about..3 days. He has not pop yet, I have killed every living thing in sight within the give areas of his pop location. I am on the Bahamut server and was wanting to know if anybody else has ran across this problem?
I camped it a few times... but never dropped I usually just throw /rng on when i know i will be passing by the spawn area and kill it if its up. Yesterday on Nov11, I just ran by with my BLU42/RNG1 and got off chocobo and killed it cause it was up.
Got the drop.
I guesstimate that i am 1/15 on the drop, just because i killed it over the course of a couple years quite a few times.
I got the drop on my 5th kill of Jack over the course of a couple of days. I was only camping him once in that time (didn't even see him, but I wasn't there for more than a couple of hours). The finds were either when I was passing through - always make sure to check in on him just in case whenever I'm in the area - or, like the decisive one, when I was farming for sheepskins, and killing the odd hare in vain hope he'd show up.
700-800k sale on Bahamut at the moment, but I'm holding on to it for a while at least, in case I decide to level thf all the way. I've been loaning it out to the thieves in my ls ever since I got it, they seem grateful to be saved the time and effort!

Place holders are one of the means by which game coders place conditions on the spawning of, usually, rare monsters. Time of day, a certain amount of time between spawns, a certain number of enemies killed, or in this case, a particular enemy killed. Once that particular enemy is killed, the rare monster can spawn in its place. However, players without access to the code can easily confuse one condition for another. For example, if I kill 204 monsters in 12 game hours, 100 of which were crabs, starting at noon, and a Notorious Monster Crab spawns at midnight, I might conclude, without sufficient cause, that any one of those conditions was the cause of the NM spawn: midnight, 200 monsters, 100 crabs, a placeholder. Any attribute held as code by the game can be used as a condition; a monster could spawn because a paladin walked by for example, or someone was riding a chocobo. These probably aren't going to happen; the point is, it takes a lot of verification from multiple sources to be 100% sure of the conditions for quests and spawns.
Funny story here... I was comming back from the Valkurm Dunes after some jerk booted me from the party (12 THF/WAR atm). Man he was rude! Anyways I was walking to Sandy cuase I decided I wanted to get my Choco egg. I came across an unfamilliar NM named "Jaggedy-Eared Jack" I was lvl 12 so I wanted to try it out.. Killed the NM and got the charm 1st try.. and sold it.. All within an hour. I later thanked him for kicking me ^.-
Okay I have been reading all of these post and I have a real question about this item can anyone say for sure what this item does? does it increase steal success or does it work like treasure hunter? to much speculation not enough fact the stats say steal +1 is that all it is?
it has a Steal+1 effect for sure. and the use isn't so evident until later w/ THF, most people can agree getting THF Testemony isn't so much fun and having this is just another +1 that helps like Rogue Ring. Not to mention you have the option of winning the battle with Maat by stealing his Warp Scroll.
it's still sellable, a friend of mine just got it yesterday after the update on Valefor, and it's still just Rare, which means the prices wont go through the roof on the AH for now...until christmas inflation...

as with everything in this game your level affectes teh drop.....if soemthing is no match to you...you dont normally get a drop after your so many eveles above it...you wont even get crystals if you have signet.....so...it only stands to reason that you have a better chance of getting the dropat a lower level while JAJ is d/c or even match to you. also ive done no actual research into this...but what if only a couple of you party members are lower level and you have one high level?????? i jsut put this here for all rhos ewho have been trying to get this drop with say a 75 lvl character...YOUR JUST WAISTING YOUR TIME lol
I was camping this on midgardsormr yesterday, and some idiot was running around trying to tell me that I was too high level to get the drop (THF 48). Of course, he also said there was no way I could possibly know the placeholder, and I wasn't camping JeJ right because I wasn't killing every rabbit in a 3 mile radius. Needless to say, when JeJ popped, I was first on the scene. No drop though. That would have been nice to shove in his face.
The only way in which level affects drop rates is to be a Thief of or above either 15th or 45th levels. This is due to the Treasure Hunter abilities gained at those levels. Also, any job with /Thief above level 30 will experience a slightly higher drop rate due to the Treasure Hunter ability.
Sorry, the smartass in me just had to prove that there was one case in which level affected drop rates. Asside from the situations and conditions mentioned above however, you are completely accurate in you statement. Have a good day!

a fellow THF friend got his drop a day or two ago also, i wonder if they changed his drop rate in the last update? It just seems weird how me and him were both 0/15+, and now we got them all of a sudden.

Woot! 1/6. I logged off for an hour after my fifth kill, and decided to come back and try one last time for the day. I was so excited, this being my first NM drop ever. Probably gonna keep it to start up my THF.
I ran into another person camping it on my fourth try, who is so far 0/13 on JEJ...
Just had to mention I got mine last night, making me 1/6 on JeJ. Sold for 2M to a Linkshell member, and promptly used the proceeds to buy a Monster Signa.
I'll probably continue to camp him.... He's an easy camp, since virtually no one does it. I'm 6/7 on claims, usually no one else even around. This makes it viable to camp and sell to get money for the big money items (Archers, Snipers, etc).
Poor CandiRandi did not quite get answers wanted, I think. I never got the charm but had two people in my immediate circle of friends who had it. Quizzed them extensively about effects, and the reaction was that it did NOT help with steal that they could notice. Also, for those who think that using it for the Maat fight is a great idea: it is almost impossible to steal from Maat, even with the charm. Three master thieves that I knew who were post 70 all told me their strategy (I finally retired just before starting Maat, so it had been a major topic of interest for me) which worked successfully on the first try, and none of them even tried to use a single steal. Finally, no: imo, steal is a completely separate ability, and is not affected by dex or any other stat. I have seen arguments that agi will help steal, but I tested that extensively (steal with/without pair of drone earrings -- difference of 6 agi) and never noticed any difference.

This may not be true, it could have been out of luck and chance, but I tested +Wind. I beleive that wind is base support on stealing. This could deffinately be the case with testing with Drone Earrings. I don't think that any stat has anything to do with "Steal". And yes, it's true, this item is very usefual for Maat. Also another thing I realized is buffing INT helps lower that chance of an unsucessful pick and a Mimic. Of course, that has nothing to do with the Rabbit Charm. ^^

We got super lucky on this one. About 20 minutes into farming this guy I saw him on my widescan and got the claim with no one else around. Kitti flee'd over and killed him in no time. We couldn't believe our eyes. ^_^
We soon after decided to camp Huu Mooj, he poped after an hour, I saw him on my widescan and rushed over. Sadly, a galka who had gotten their 5 minutes before got him. Oh well.

And now for a post pertaining to the actual item and not the notorious monster which drops it...
Has anyone who has the charm noticed a significant difference in the amount of successful steals with the charm equipped? I sometimes help my husband camp Jack in hopes of getting the charm for his THF, but if anyone can confirm whether there is or is not a noticeable increase in successful steals it would save us a considerable amount of time in the long run. One would hope so, considering the drop rate and subsequent price of the charm. >.<
Also, this is a little off-topic, but is Steal based on an ability, such as DEX or AGI? Sorry for asking, but being a mage, I know nothing about THF! ^_^'
Steal is based upon DEX i believe. i am not sure but about 80% sure. every ability in the game is based upon some stat. sorry for not being positive. hope this helps a bit. i have heard that the item does not make a massive difference. but hey you never know
But once I got myself a Wild Rabbit Tail after killing Mighty Rarabs in Buburumi it's fantastic! I almost never fail to steal. Even when I just sub THF and the charm stays in my moghouse! (I already had a 4-leaf Mandragora Bud from before.) Maybe these "maybe-gives-luck-maybe-not"-items do something together.

No I haven't noticed any difference at all when using steal; it fails most of the time anyway. But I have felt much luckier since I got it. Other drops are just raining down... or maybe that's because Jack was soo hard to get drop from that all other NM-drops seems almost to easy?

It spawns anywhere between 1-6 hours, I've camped it religiously since I was a level 9 BLM on my first character. I am 0/33 as of last Monday. It's depressing that I have camped it so long when I could easily just go camp a mob like Hoo Mjuu the Torrent for an item that does drop 2/10 on him. Sell that staff and buy it. But then it wouldn't have been earned and I need to have it drop before I can use it. This is pretty much the same with every peice of gear I have.
Lightsday, darksday, foggy, it doesn't matter! It just won't drop.

I was 0/13 with this rabbit, til the other day. I ran out there actually to camp Goliath Beetle, but stumbled across JeJ. well thf25/rng10, i know gimped, killed his butt and wham got the drop. w00t...... or not. I'm just kidding, lol, i'm like 0/23 on this stupid butthole of a rabbit. what I have noticed tho, is every other NM camp has gotten a little FULL ever since SE made two main camped NM's drops rare/ex, except for JeJ. LMAO is there a hint there for us all?! I like to earn my things too man, but damn, thats a lot of wasted days and nights. I havent bought it yet, but im seriously thinking about it. Maybe u can think of it this way, you worked hard for your gil so in the end game u worked hard for the rabbit charm u just bought. ^^
i think se should increase the drop on this, it wouldnt hurt anyone, and more gilsellers would run at it, and seeing as how ppl rarly camp it, gillsellers would be more likely to lose some cash in this, not a big difference, maby 1 or 2 will be out of business from obsession with it, but its still a difference of a few rich noobs in the end

yes that is one strategy to beat maat for THFs. on ffxi.cannotlinkto (i think thats the url) it gives 2 strategies and I've seen a video of a THF meleeing Maat.
