I accidently dropped it a year ago. Sooooo, I gave it another attempt. I went onto the ship and camped through three pirate spawns. That's about 30 or more pirates. I still can't get the charm. I just hope I can get it otherwise I'll have to party up with someone. not everyone is interested in doing that though.

Me and 4 LS buudies where havin a fishin party and a farmin pty at pennuslia when on our 3rd trip, the ship comes i was AFk and the 1st thing i see is people gettin ganged on by pirates my first thought :"if you are real god you waon't let blackbeard or silver hook come, we're gratefull with the sea horror thx!" and he didn't come

I just tried to get the Sand Charm drop for a few hours today. After waiting for the pirate ship to show, one did. I killed a few of the pirate skeletons, only to the disappointment of no drop. I get tired of waiting/trying, and decide to log for a few hours. I come back, and the ship is about to arrive. I get on, and have the feeling I'm going to be seeing the pirate ship, again. About 4 minutes after leaving dock, I see a ship in the mist. I shout "PIRATES!" and all the fisherman aboard start gathering. I take down 2, with no drop. Then, I get an invite.
The fisherman had allied, and started a party, and invited me. As soon as I join in, someone tells me to lot for the Sand Charm. They had received 2 drops, and decided to give one to me, because I had mentioned I needed it for the quest (and by mentioned, I mean I kept saying "SAND CHARM, SAND CHARM", hehe).
So, in full gratitude, I have to give a shout to: Bonsai, Febion, Kdizzle, Levania, and Shayna. Thank you, guys!

I just got the sand charm with sunny weather at night, firesday, 67% waxing gibbous. Info is for those who are trying to go after conditions. Pirates came shortly after ship took off and got drop off 2nd Crossbone kill. Hope this helps a little...

I was getting Nin AF on boat (Mhaura > Selbina) and Sea Horror popped. I was fighting Bogy type NM for AF > Sea horror popped was getting beat down (Rng + hundred Fist = OUCH) an these jerko's show up. BUT they had a present with them: BlackBeard, a NM that was owning a 75 Smn and since it was of undead type I was doing LOW damage. I recommend you watch yourself! "Run Away!"

Bostaunieux Obillette Map quest. You can tell when pirates are going to come onto the selbina-mhaura ship by seeing if the chat log appears before you can see anything when you first zone into the selbina-mhaura ship. So if you can just see the chat log and where you would see what is happening in vana'diel is all black for a second or two when you zone in, pirates are coming! Get ready to find your sand charm.

I was on a boat once with a WHM and i was gettin OWNED by this crossbones and he killed it and got the sand charm i worked so hard to get!!! i tryed to cast Fire on his ass but it didnt work... :(...

i got the Sand Charm purely on accident. i was fishing on the ship, minding my own business like most fisher-people do, when the pirates appeared. being a 45MNK/22WAR, it didn't bother me too much, until they started aggroing this low-level WHM who was catching a ride at the time. i went in to save their behind and ended up with a Sand Charm from the first (of several) crossbones killed to save the WHM's life.
come to find out, the WHM had another character she had spent hours and hours and hours (X2) getting the Sand Charm to drop, and wasn't too pleased to hear that i got it to drop on the first try. oops. :/

we are pround to say we own the pirates and got the charm.......... we die 1st try ,but beat it as second time just the crossbone that we killed not the shipwight

The pirates are fun as hell to fight^^

lol I was heading to dunes to lvl DRG and Pirates show up. It was my first encounter btw. Anyways I just met a new friend lvl 50 SAM who escourted me threw bubu, and he loves to fight pirates so he takes em all on. after killing about 12 I see Sand Charm and im like sounds kewl so I check it and the SAM says keep it ^^ He died after killing like 40 pirates lol but luckly there was a High lvl WHM on boared.
how much are they worth?
Forgot to mention My highest is 30BLM so i dont think I'll need the charm for ALONG time so how much is it worth?

it's rare/ex so you can only use it for the quest.. or to wear for yourself.

If the Crossbones only show up when it's foggy/murky, then only go on nights when it's gonna be like that (undead=nighttime only). For those of you who (like me) need a bigger hint, try this: there's a person who can predict the weather 3 days ahead in each port town. Talk to him. If you don't get the weather you want, log out and do something else for 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 48 seconds (3 game days). [25 game days per real life day]

I fought these during the daytime in murky weather. So, no, it's not only going to be nighttime.

..... well for my own experience i got a charm when a rdm buddy and me went to camp VE and decided to go on boat. My other friends they had camped the pirates and didnt get any on their boat ride but lucky me when my friend and I went the pirate boat appeared i was scared as hell but they were easy and we got 2 drops

doh! i was level 27whm with a 21pally buddy and we wasted about 4 of these and a wight. got the charm and threw it away. i didn't know it was a quest item!
i am a manthra as are 1/2 or more of the mithra out there. i am a whitemage/blackmage and a ranger/thief. i am military and i have a decent enough self esteem to not care if people don't like me playing a mithra. i do my own thing. it's a game, and i want to have fun, so i will play what i want to play.

lmao, me and my ls friends stupidly decided to go and kill Pirates at around 30(one 50).

so one our first trip to Mhaura from Selbina, we got the pirate theme and the ship appeared. We were all saying 'yay Pirates'.....
the WAR 31 got cornered by 3 Crossbones and a Ship Wight, and went down in less than a min. She said 'damn, I'm dead lol.'
the NIN and I stuck with the MNK, who was easily killing the crossbones, and fought off some crossbones beside him too. 2 cornered me a the NIN was preoccupied with another crossbones, so went down.
so later the NIN is down to about 20 HP, so he runs off for a while, saying 'I'm not here, don't pay attention to me...' then he said screw it, and ran into the battle and used 2 hr. It barely did any damage to the things -_-
so now the MNK is all alone and is down to about 700 hp/1020 hp and his chakra had time (previously was hunting VE and killing bogys for the hell of it, lol) so he got down to about 400 hp then he used Hundred Fists and beat the crap outta those things, lol. After the pirates were gone for a while, he used chakra and went from 200 to ~300 hp again. Then he beat up the rest of the pirates and we docked. /sigh... funny thing was we were all alone on the boat... XD so we got no raises, and we HPed except for the MNK. I'm gonna have fun when I'm a high level PLD and I go on a joyride on the boat killing Pirates... of course, won't be fun if the Sea Horror shows up >.>;; I shall have revenge on those things :P
btw, 2 sand charms only and the MNK got them cause only he could lot (we were dead.... X.x)

Had a boat party with my LS today - a nearly full alliance of LV50+ (the lowest were myself and a LV44 WHM) having fun going back and forth on the boat. We were there for nearly two hours screwing around before we got pirates, not one, but TWICE in a row. XD Between myself and the other THF on-board, Treasure Hunter and the alliance provoked a drop of about 8 Sand Charms (3 the first run, 5 or 6 the second run). Pirates were easily pwned, we all had a good time, and I now have the map for Bostaniuex Oubliette :D

I camped pirates 9 hours last night, 2 sea horrors, no pirates. I was not at all happy. They popped first trip when I logged this morning. I had to claim against a tonne of JP PLD, but still got 5. No drop.
I am now 1 for 55 on sand charm, and 0 for 1 on lots (I partied with another PLD once against them, I soloed the crossbones that dropped it, he won the lot =T). Maybe I am just being unlucky, but I want to fly over to Tokyo and ram my foot down SE's throat at the moment...

I did get this on the first Crossbone I defeated. Easy as pie for a 39 WHM. It was also my first encounter with pirates at all, lucky me! :D

At level 40, the crossbones were easy. The hard part were the Ship Wights... ugh... they were freaking hard. I think there should be a correction, I never got a drop from a Crossbones, but by a Ship Wight. ( Note to self: Ship Wights are much harder than imagined )... -.-

was on boat to selbina for manniquin(sp) quest when pirates invaded. I am 43mnk/21thf and ended up fighting like 3 crossbones and 2 wights on my own (2hr and many chakras), ended up with 50hp out of 1033, and i got it to drop off of the 2nd to last crossbones. I didnt even rmember there was a quest for the charm til i won it. I like to get maps but wish there were some monetary compensation for this too. But fame is fame!
Yeah, this is a Rare Ex, my friend and I were fighting pirates and got one. The 25 thf that was with us won the lot and got the charm, oh well :P

When you give the sand charm to the daughter in the goldsmith guild at Mhaura. The daugher gives you a map to Bostaunieux Oubliette as your reward.

Think its for a Quest in Mhaura, speak to the old lady waiting for her husband, then I spoke to the guys sitting on the boxes and then the old lady again, I got a cut scene. Then I went up to the goldsmiths guild and found her daughter who wants you to get one of these, if I remember corectly, no I haven't finished it yet.

this drops offa the crossbones that attack during boat trips to to and from mhura (or whatever) and slebina(again whatever) tough customer, had a high level in my group ( one of the nicest people i have ever met in an mmorpg, and we can barely understand each other lol ). He said it was for a quest but his english is not very good, any other info here guys?
