I know you have to do "Secrets of Ovens Lost" quest in order to get this, but I don't see that quest listed on here so I'm posting on this thread. I'm trying to find the ??? in Sacrarium to get the Tavnazian Cookbook. KI says it's in one of four rooms....but there are 6 rooms (same for doing CoP 4-3). And the ??? is supposed to be behind a bookcase, but what's in those 6 rooms i wouldn't really call bookcases but long columns and i didn't see any ??? other than the one's to pop the professor for CoP 4-3. Anyone know where to find the ???

nvm, found it on ffxiclopedia...f5/f6 border, h5/h6 border, f11, and h11.

Duo at level 60

I just duo the Para NM (me 60 RDM + a 60 DRK).

The first Mob is quite easy, the second too. I guess when the #2 is low HP, it starts spawning 2x Mobs a row...

First try, we got totally owned when we were surrounded by 4X Paras :-( // had to zone.

Second round, the DRK called his NPC, and we opted for the "slow & steady" method = killing each Para one after another.
We previously used my Memento Shuffler (VIT+7) to get a bit more resistance.
Then we started to fight the #1, the #2, the #3... When the #4 spawned I tried to sleep II it..with no luck...We managed to kill the #3, I had to convert.
I succeeded in sleeping the #5. So we killed the #4 smoothly.
#6 got slept too, so we had full time to rest in-between the 2 last rounds.
Yes, was the last one to spawn ^^

So it's definitely duoable at lvl 60. Just be sure to bring item supply to help you keep up the fight (and maybe NPC along if you have, it helps a bit).

GL to all
(and thanks again to Alsiel for his kind help on this ^^).

Just solo'd it as a 70BLM/RDM. It took quite awhile before I got the hang of it. Basically, the first Para that spawns is very resistant to magic, and it will spawn about three more while you kill it. Each Para afterwards is progressively weaker to magic. I started by keeping a beetle nearby to use as an aspir battery and melee'd Para down until it died (sleeping the new paras as they spawned), my aspir battery was out by this point so I ran out to the tunnel and grabbed another beetle, then I decided to try Manafont and I hit Firaga III, Stonega III, Waterga III, Firaga III. This killed two of the remaining three, but another one spawned as I finished off the third one. I alternated resting and killing until this died, and it spawned another, and then another, and then another. On this one I decided to get it fairly low and then cast ES+Burst (since it seemed to be rather weak to lightning magic at the point--perhaps related to it being earthsday?). I got it to a sliver of health after Burst, but it used a TP attack and spawned another Para before I could kill it. Finally, on this one, I did the following to defeat it:

Thunder III - 261 damage
Blizzard III - 498 damage
Fire III - 460 damage
Thunder III - 522 damage
Slept it
Burst - 874 damage.

Now, I had Phalanx and Stoneskin up almost the entire time and I have a feeling that the replacement para summoning may be related to whether or not Para gets and uses a TP move on you, so I was sure to keep it from hitting me. I of course used Ginger cookies for the Plantoid Killer effect.

I should add that I would have been slaughtered without Phalanx, I went into the orange and red more than once between rests, my Phalanx with capped enhancing subtracts 24 damage per hit.

Possible for a mage, but it takes a loooooong time.

This ribbon is a must have for any whm doing a dynamis run. It's very effective against breakga, sleepga, silencega, etc. It's also a much cheaper alternative to the arete del sol for tanking marlboro nms.

it's very helpful vs mobs with ice and shock spikes as well. Those ice spikes paralyzes suck a lot so this has some usefulness for melees too.

By the way, resistance to effects works for damage too.

Venom spray from flies and crawlers are both a water and poison effect. You can prevent a lot of damage by casting both barwater + barpoison. This adds to it as well. You may still end up poisoned but the damage of the origional attack is diminished.
fun item

i tried this solo as 75whm/blm. It was very very easy at first, i got the Para (the name of the Funguar NM) down to like 15% hit points, but then another Para popped. So I finished off Para#1 and proceeded to fight Para#2. By the time Para#2 got to 15% hit points, Para#3 and Para#4 popped. I killed off Para#2, but as I was fighting Para#3, Para#5 and Para#6 popped, so I figured I'd need to kill them all at once, so I got Para#3 and Para#4 and Para#5 all down to a sliver of live, but as I was fighting Para#5, Para#6 and Para#7 popped, and several of the surrounding funguar began to respawn and link. I was juggling about 9 funguar, 5 being Notorious Monsters, and they began resisting my sleep & sleepga consistently, while hitting me for 60-160 damage each. I had to warp out with red hp and low mp.

FIrst off let me just say this, 51 War/Nin I have yet to get a PT w/o a PLD for tanking main, Im sure it will happen, but meh. Now to my question since that previous statement was a fill in.

Is this worth it for War/Nin? to take a DEF Loss? im curious is all, if I should stay with my IM Helm or go for this.

This information was taken from Kool-aid [with some formatting clean-up]:

Quote:

Elderly Pursuits Created by Jamari. Last edited by Jamari 33 days ago.
Client: Despachiaire (Elders' Quarters, Tavnazia)
Summary: Despachiaire has asked you to investigate the origin of his late wife's amulet.

Speak with Despachiaire @ (K-10) on the top floor of the Tavnazian Safehold. He will give you an Antique Amulet (Key Item).
In Southern San d'Oria speak with Rouva located @ (I-8).
Travel to Carpenters' Landing and find the glowing mushroom spore with a ??? @ (F-9). Selecting the ??? will spawn a NM Fungaur: Para. Beware that if Para is not killed quickly it has a chance to spawn a duplicate of itself between 10-50% HP remaining. On our first try, Jaraude and I (Jamari) had to run away after it spawned a 6th copy of itself. We won on our second attempt by getting 300% TP before spawning the NM and killing it as quickly as possible.
Examine the ??? again to obtain the Cathedral Medallion (Key Item).
Rouva in Southern San d'Oria will translate the inscription on your Cathedral Medallion.
Return to Despachiaire in Tavnazian Safehold for your reward.

Prerequisite: Secrets of Ovens Lost
Repeatable: No
Title Received: None
Reward: Elegant Ribbon

I wasn't sure about the Para (the NM Funguar), so I asked a level 70 Pld to help me with the fight. As it turned out a 70 War was bored, so they both ended up coming.

Since none of us knew how tough the NM was going to be (i.e. how many times it will reproduce itself), we all got 300% tp before the fight (as recommended in the guide on Kool-aid).

I popped it, and we utterly destroyed it. It has about 2700 hp. Rampage did about 450 damage, Spirit Within did about 400 damage, Full Swing did about 450, Thunder 4 did about 550 (resisted ;;). The Pld had and used a Blink band (fresh from Maat fight) and it didn't even wear through the blinks.

I have this item and it does not stop things like str down and evasion down.

It stops poison, disease, curse and things like that.

I've heard that these come from a quest in the Tranzavian Safehold. I'd check myself, but I havn't completed all my Promyvions.

I've seen quite a few of them up on my servers AH, my question is how effective is this?

It increases resistance to all status ailments, but does it increase it enough so that it's practically nullified?

I don't want a ribbon that makes it so a DC can't get his paralysis to stick on me. I want something that would stop anything short of an HNM from enfeebling me.

Also, what kind of status ailments does it effect?
I'm sure it covers everything from poison to slow to disese, but does it stop things like Accuracy Down, Strength Down, and Bio?

I may not know how it works, but here's my thoughts on the matter.
For its effectiveness, I'm sure it works pretty well, though I wouldn't place all of my money just on this little thing just to keep mobs from enfeebling me. If you do buy this, do the usual thing to increase status resistance (increase MND, use Bar-ra spells, etc) to help against those nasty effects besides using this thing. Every bit helps, after all.
As for status ailments... Strength Down and those such are listed as "abnormal status effects", so I'm pretty positive they would be covered.
The best way I can think of to see how well this thing would work is to find the various levels of Malboros in Vana'Diel and fight each one from 'Too Weak' all the way to 'Incredibly Tough'... if at all possible, of course, with the level of this thing. But hey, it's the only way a person would really find out how good this ribbon works, I say. ^^;;
