Berry Grubs in Rolanberry Fields also drop these, but the drop rate is bad. I spent a few hours killing them and they only gave me about 6 threads.
Price Drop...
# Jul 22 2007 at 5:01 AM Rating: Decent
So last summer, I could farm silk thread and make 40k/stack, a nice profit. Now, though, a year later, a stack is only worth 12k (on Bismarck server). I know that the overall economy has experienced deflation, but it's really unfortunate that this price can't be jumped up some. It almost doesn't seem worth the farming time anymore. At any rate, I can usually bring in a stack or two per hour using 20thf/10rng outside Windy.
Silk Thred
# Dec 19 2006 at 9:47 PM Rating: Decent
Reading about the perspectives of people on both sides of the issue, to me this clearly illustrates one simple fact about crafting and the AH ecconomy. And that it that it's painfully lacking ballence. I haven't any soutions for the problem but it's clear that one exists from reading this thred.
For the record I used to farm silk and did ok at it. It used to pay for Food for xp pt's and choco expences. Stacks of this lvl 51 synth item used to steadly go for 40k to 50k a stack (back when Sole Sushi was 45-60k a stack) on seraph for the (first few years I played and farmed silk). Since the price has dropped to 12k my server it's just not worth farming anyhmore, for me anyway. So I simply leave farming this high-ish lvl synth item to those willing. But with my favorite food selling for 25k or more a stack and silk only 12k a stack it's no longer worth my time.

I have since the great AH depression begun lvl'ing clothcraft but it is very costly endevor in Gill and time. Currently I'm struggling to sell what I have sythed so far so that I can recoop even the smallest amount of what I have spent, rather than taking huge losses and selling it all to a NPC. I have farmed alot of my materials thuse far but with the time it takes to run around to farm items needed to lvl cc it quiclkly becomes unfesable after a crtain point so you beging to buy from AH to lvl that's reallity (of the game lol). So what this means is that at the moment I'm stranded at cc lvl 24 and until I can sell what I've made so far then get cc to at least 41 or higher so I can't even attempt to synth what I could farm of silk thread. That's my personal delema it is what it is, I'm glad prices are down I just wish I was in the position to take advantage of it. I attribute my situation to not paying closer attention to the AH and selling when prices were high. Through my own desisions I have landed my self loaded down with items that are currntly selling for little gill and at a sluggish pace on the best day, Currently I haven't adjusted my additude to enable myself to begin farming again, or more to the case I haven't found a new item worth my time.

Try to have fun everyone after all it is a game right?

Goes for between 15 and 20k on Ifrit server.
NMs = better steal?
# Aug 16 2006 at 2:23 PM Rating: Decent
I've stolen silk from Spini Spipi in east sarutabaruta and Guardian Crawler in crawler's nest. Not sure if all (non-NM) crawlers have a very low chance of having silk stolen, or if they have no silk at all. I've observed about a 75% steal rate off Guardian Crawler though using only AF for +steal.

I dont cloth craft, but I feel the pain of seeing a craft item jumping from 30k to 70k (Garuda).

Oh well, looks like I have something else to farm.

Inflation has also hit this item very hard...bad news for the crafters good news for the farmers.

I farm it in the Passh9w Marshlands, drop rate isnt great but plenty of Crawlers and they can be killed very easily.

Drop Rates
# Nov 02 2005 at 1:34 AM Rating: Decent
After losing Hoo Mjuu's staff for 4 scroll of deoderize i decide save up and buy the staff

Silks was the way to go

I made a Excel sheet of drop rates to help you guys out

Note: drop rates are only based on 4 vandiel days and on the Waxing Cresent Moon

Moon phase%+day--Actual #------Probably the real #
12%Lightningday---23.91%----------25%
14%Lightsday------23.08%----------25%
17%Darksday-------12.99%----------12.50%
19%Firesday-------16.00%----------17.50%

My theory is that the drop rate of the mob is solely dependent upon a constant drop rate + the day of the week + the Moon phase in corilation tot he Day of the week

In other words Darksday usually has good drops but i think that the moon phase does not line up as a well as a full moon or new moon

I got 52silks today so ill be back posting on the other 200 i have to farm

Hope this was useful

i would tell you the area i farmed in but i dont want it becoming camped
