Conserve MP will kick in for Summoner, though I'm not sure how SE set it. It won't effect any avatar perpetuation, if that is what any of you are thinking. For summons, about the only thing it will effect is the actual summon of the avatar, and possibly blood pacts. Main use for it would be when curing and everything, can be really helpful to knock down the smn's mp cost on curaga, etc.
Well, I don't need to say it, but at lv 50 I believe this is one of the best pieces of body you can get. It all depends on what you are doing. Overall the INT you get from body's won't effect spells too much (compare it and if you see a huge difference let me know), and for BLM PTs and all, would really kick ***. (for those who don't know, in a BLM pt you get blmx5, brd or blmx4, brd, smn or blmx4, rdm, brd. the blmx5 one is best. brd (or smn if you doing it with them) pulls the mob, and then brd sleeps mob when it reaches camp, blm then case Freeze (or Burst) and the mob dies. Is best exp you can get besides mnk and nin pts (which you don't see til 65+ really)
Effect of Conserve MP
# Nov 13 2005 at 10:41 PM Rating: Excellent
I got this armor piece a bit ago and wanted to know exactly how much the Conserve MP trait on this was helping. I set up the following test:

I wrote a set of seven macros that would cast Ice Spikes 20 times in a row. I ran through this seqence with the Cotehardie on then again with it off. I repeated that five times for a total 200 Ice Spikes spells cast. I alternated the coat on/coat off to try to minimize any possible effects of the day or time. Here's what I got for the MP usages of casting 20 spells each time:

Coat On:
279
288
295
291
295
Average: 289.6

Coat Off:
286
298
286
305
316
Average: 298.2

If I had no conserve MP, the sequence would cost 16*20=320 MP. When you compare the actual costs, you get:

Coat On: Used 90.5% of the stated MP cost
Coat Off: Used 93.2% of the stated MP cost

It looks like over time the extra Conserve MP from the coat lowers MP usage by 4%, which fits real nice with the +4 stated here. At level 50-ish BLM (what I was when i did this), my natural Conserve MP does about a -6%, so this coat brings it down to -10% MP used, which is pretty nice. ^^

Hope that helps anyone who is trying to decide between this and something else.

I can't give the exact POS, cuz I don't recall it >.<. But! You head past the first set of Minotaurs...til you come to the room with the Stegotaurs. There's 2 rooms you can go into. 1 has the THF, RNG, NIN, DRG, and BST spawns. If you go to the farther room, there is another NIN spawn, but there is a ladder in the room. Head up the ladder, and around the corner to find the party of the WAR, DRK, and BLM. Careful, cuz the hallway to where the party is always spawns an elemental when Weather effect is on. It will aggro from magic from quite a distance >.<

Got this yesterday and was totally not expecting it. An LS friend happened to be going through L.Jeuno at the time and got a few of us together to join an alliance that already had 9 people.

Anyway, ran to Phomiuna Aqueducts and we killed a couple of Fomors and got drops pretty quickly for several in the group. After getting enough for the NIN in the party we moved on to the first party, which is a Fomor BLM, Fomor WAR, and a Fomor DRK. This fight is extremely easy if you do not jump in without any plan whatsoever. First off, let me mention that we did NOT have a PLD and only had 1 NIN out of a party of 15. The battle plan was this:

One ranger uses shadowbind on the WAR, and the WHM use Elemental Seal/Silence on the BLM and the DRK. If you have a BLM or RDM with a high enfeebling, you can Elemental Seal/Sleepga, but it is not necessary. Everybody then jumps the BLM and kill him quite unmercifully. I would say that it did not last no more than 30 seconds when we engaged it. After the BLM goes down, the attention changes focus to the DRK and finally the WAR. At this point you can also put a person or two on the WAR if you want just to keep hate control. Total battle time was no more than 3 minutes tops.

Lucky for me, the BLM dropped the Aries Subligar and I was able to outlot the other BLM in the party. Unfortunately the WAR and the DRK did not drop anything. We waited for the party to respawn and proceeded to crush it a second time, giving both the WAR and the DRK subligars.

After going to the library and getting totally raped by 6 Formors at once and having 2 stegotaurs pop on top of us, we HPed. Traveled to Bastok in order to finish the quest, and dear Brygid wants me to wear a White Cloak and Silk Pants. The cloak was no problem, because I have a WHM friend in the LS who loaned me his. The pants, of course, were not on sale in Jeuno, but I was lucky enough to find one in Bastok for 100K (eeew). Now it is time to try the thing out, even though I think that it totally looks awful on a bald Hume. >.>

This is totally worth going after if you can get some good people together. The subligar drop pretty well and it is alot of fun.

This is kind of off-topic but, one small correction, I think. According to Somepage's database, the WAR/PLD panty, the Pisces Subligar (which becomes the Parade Cuirass - banana armor FTW!), only drops from Fomor Paladins. The two times we've had it drop, it was from a Fomor Paladin, but to be fair, we never fought a Fomor Warrior.

+4 doesn't mean more MP saved
# May 26 2005 at 3:30 PM Rating: Default
I think the "Conserve MP+4" doesn't mean that when conserve mp happens, it doesn't conserve more. It just means that the occurence of Conserve Mp is increased. Like with it equipped you have a higher chance of Conserve Mp kicking in.

ok a SMN/blm would enjoy the benefits of conserve MP +4 because they would have the job trait conserve MP. a SMN/??? would not get this benefit because they dont have conserve MP naturually so there is nothing for the item to augment. and the difference between enhance and + items is enhance usually refers to JA(effects you trigger and control i.e soul eater) there by making them stronger. something like +conserve MP(which also exists on the BLM AF2 set) would increase the odds of it activating but if BLM didnt have the conserve MP ability itd be useless

Actually, a lot of "enhance job trait" gear will actually add the trait if you don't have it (the resist bind or killer effects, for instance- try equipping a Dragon Earring on a WAR and fighting Demons; the war will intimidate them, even though they don't have the trait to naturally), so it's possible this may give you a limited conserve MP ability.

Why would it work for SMN/WHM? That's like a BLM/WHM asking if it'll reduce their avatar perpetuation cost. Of course not.

Duende - small, magical little beings that pull pranks on people, good or bad. Mostly seen in the Philippines, Guam, and other Asian/Pacific Islander cultures.
Basic knowledge about the Duendes brought to you by the number "7".

Got it to work...

did some test on it...

tested with some spells and these were how much they costed when I got them to kick in.

Reraise = 90
Poisona = 5
Paralyna = 7
Curaga = 45

So... ya it does work, and the cost seems random too.
hmm...

So far I'm testing this as SMN/WHM and this item doesn't look too promising at all. =/

I haven't gotten it to kick at yet and have been testing this inside and outside of town. What baffles me is that it says "Conserve MP +4" and not Enhancing so I'm assuming that wearing this will give SMN that +4

Oh well... still testing...
Worth the effort

I am lucky enough to have this item for my 67 BLM/33 WHM , on the Leviathan server. It ROCKS THE HOUSE! Very much worth the effort involved, the BLM formor's are tough, and usually grouped with other formors, so they are tricky to kill. The Conserve MP is VERY noticable, kicks in much more often then it used to. I highly recommend it ^^

I really must know... does this really give summoner conserve MP without having BLM sub? I mean it does make sense that it would because it says + not enhances, like someone said before, but has this been tested? Nobody has said anything like "i use this on summoner and it works!" etc so it would be nice to know. Can anyone confirm this for me? My summoner is currently to low but I would like to know for the future. Thanks.
Effects of Conserve MP +4

Because I was curious as to whether conserve MP +4 affected how often the ability kicked in, or how potent it was. I did a comparison of 12 castings of Curaga (because 60 was a nice round number I could easily compare by) one with the Cotehardie and one without

These are the 12 castings of with the cotehardie, how much mp was consumed. (note these numbers are a little skewed as I was mostly paying attention to the 10s digit)

60
60
30
40
30
50
60
60
60
30
60
60

And these are the 12 castings of without it

60
60
50
60
30
60
60
60
60
60
60
60

As you can see conserve MP kicked in about 5/12 times while wearing the cotehardie vs 2/12 times while not wearing it. As such I believe it is safe to assume that the conserve MP +4 influences the frequency rather than potency of the Conserve MP ability.

Benefit to SMN

I'd be willing to bet that a SMN wearing this could expect to occasionally see the effects of Conserve MP kick in on Blood Pact abilities.

The true benefit to having this item as a smn would be when forced to heal for a party. Because it is "Conserve MP + 4" and not "Enhances Conserve MP" it would add the ability to smn/anything. Therefore your heals would have a chance to randomly cost less and that frees up more MP for future EXP chains. This is, imo, better than the smn AF bodypiece but i would only use it when main healing. As for the dark spirit -1 perpetuation... i dont know anyone who uses spirits for anything other than running away quickly. I also dont know of another summoner with a dark spirit, let alone one who uses it frequently so that seems fairly useless.

Not bad but I'd take the Nimbus Doublet over this, cause how many ppl actually own a Dark Spirit? A smn that was looking for Toraimarai Canal Coffer key with me last night, was wearing it seems good but lots of better body pieces out there.

Sorry man, but your a tool. The Nimbus Doublet looks ugly, and is a steaming pile of .....
HP regen... w/e @ 50 subbing whm gets this, and main whm has this [ deemed useless unless your doing a bcnm (and how often do you do these ?) ; nms pushing it ]Conserve MP helps those slightly who don't have a massive MP pool. Agreed alot of people don't have the dark spirits, but the mp bonus is worth it. (as small as it is; it does add up =] )
