these seem to drop only in West Sarutabaruta. 50 kills in east, no drop. 50 kills in west, 6 drops. also, i have heard these are used in high level alchemy. can someone verify this? (Thank you.)
rare?!?

I don't know about all that. I got these things a few times, while hunting for silk. Since I already did the quest and didn't need them anymore I usually chucked it.
Lemme clear this up for everyone...

Meteorites are ONLY found on Crawlers around the Starfall Hillock. I was killing Crawlers left and right, and the only Meteorites I've ever found were off of the buggies around the hillock.

What time of day doesn't seem to matter (I got most of mine during the daytime on different elemental days). Just head to Starfall Hillock in W.Sarutabaruta and start exterminating the local pest population. You'll find one soon enough.

EDIT: Just sent a correction to the site. I dunno when or if it'll be up there, but I posted here anyway, so there you go.

After a year I finally got one.
quest items
# Jul 16 2005 at 9:20 AM Rating: Decent
you don't HAVE to have a quest to get the requested item. getting the quest is very few a prerequisite to get a drop off mobs, except when it's a spawned mob like for coffer
Ummm....

Ummm.... the note on this item is wrong. I haven't accepted this mission, but I've gotten 6 of these. Anyone else have the same thing happen?

I must be the unluckiest person in the world o_o I've been farming crawlers as my prime target mob since I started the game about a year ago and have never seen a meteorite >_<
RE: good lord
# May 21 2005 at 12:40 PM Rating: Decent
It's only dropped by the crawlers on Starfall Hillock, a hill (check your map) in the middle of West Saruta.

I'm with you. I have had the quest for a year and a half killing crawlers on and off and never have gotten one. Somebody was going to give me one but it's rare/ex:/

I had one drop (from the crawler on the hill near the outpost), without having accepted the quest.

In fact, I had no idea what it was for, thankfully my LS filled me in on the details.
No need quest first

Not trying to burst your bubble, but Treasure Hunter 1, since you said you just got it, doesn't affect drops that are "Rare" >.> You just got really lucky.

Treasure Hunter 2 does (even though at times I beg to differ), but not TH1.

This coming from a lvl 15 thf? Please post info you can confirm. Both THers Effect rare drops, square-enix confirmed that.

Sue me for getting misinformed from others, if the world was entirely honest this wouldn't be an issues. Yeah, only level 15 it's just for farming purposes. However, I don't exactly see you stating what level your THF is either.

Level 55 thanks, and please don't rate me down cause I disapproved with you, that is not scholar like staus to me. But anyways, I read an article on the forums where SE blatantly stated all THers effect all drops.

*Edit*
I will explain how treasure hunter works, the way this article explained it. Basically a monster has item pool when it dies that your character has a certain amount of hits it can take into the pool. So you kill a crawler we'll say and you have three hits (I am not sure the number of hits a character has I am just making an example). Hit one gets nothing, hit 2 gets an Earth Crystal, and hit 3 get nothing. You will receive an earth crystal. Not too hard to see. What is more complicated is how the hits and the monsters item pool works. So I like to think of it as a big spreadsheet with lets say 1000 little squares. The none rare items, lets say a crystal, may have "Earth Crystal" on 300 of the square, whereas a harder to get item (Silk thread) may only occupy 35 of the squares. Of course, you hits into the pool have a better chance of hitting the "earth crystal" square. It also seems SE puts a limit or blocks out certain items after the first hit lands on it. I have never receiver more that 1 crystal after killing a mob solo, cluster yes, crystal no. So it seems if the item is hit on the first or second hit you take into the pool, then the rest of the squares with that item on it are blanked or blocked so the rest of your hits can't get this item.. I am not too sure, blanked seems more realistic.
Well somewhere on this Spreadsheet lies a rare item, we'll say the meteorite. It may only have 6 squares on the spreadsheet (I know this isn't true because I get the metorite quite frequently, like 5 times in 40 kills, but again I have TH2).

Ok to the point! TH raise the times you can take a hit into the mobs item pool, and TH2 gives even more hits into the item pool. So really people that say TH1 gives no bonus against rare item, this is completely wrong. If you get more chances to land on a square, how could it not help?
This article I read did give reference to the item pool and that TH increses the number of times you can take from the pool, the spreadsheet example is my way to explain it in an easier fashion. I didn't mean to be crude or sound ignorant, I am just sick of people lying to people on the forums. Alot of good stuff can be found here, but alot of not so good stuff can be found as well.

Don't assume I rated you down either. Matter of fact when I relooked at this thread your rating was that low. Not worth the time or effort to rate down, it's a petty topic anywho.

Yay, I see my troll has found me, back to KI ^^v

EDIT: I don't care much about posting status really, it's just a flashy title. Only reason I might have it is from a couple points I made on a few forums that got a huge rating, however, I'm frequently trolled for who the hell knows (probably b/c I'm not RDM/NIN in exp parties >:) *flames RDM Forum*)

We're also aruging about a reply I posted backdated to June 25th :) Let's, um, not waste time :)

# Jul 14 2004 at 10:33 PM Rating: Decent
Okay, i'm a lvl 44 war, 40 sam, and 15 thf. I got a meteorite off a crawler. I have hero fame status in windy and sandy, and pretty good fame in bastok and jeuno, around 140 quests completed, but i cant start the meteorite quest, everytime i talk to the guy, he complains i woke him up, thats it, if i trade it to him, it's back in my inventory. its drivin me nuts, did i miss an earlier quest that unlocks this one or what gives? I prolly got 40 quests done in windy.
E-mail suggestions pls at Thundertmf@comcast.net

Does anyone know of any practical use for a Meteorite once you do the initial quest for the compound eye circet? Also, I only have (1) in Alchemy so the glass fiber combine is out and to think anyone would want to use a flask of Panacea for a copper nugget is madness.
Thanks,

Yes, anyone who does this recipie for *copper* is insane, but at higher levels when HQ2-HQ3 are easy on such low level synths, you can create: HQ1 - Silver Nugget (yield 6); HQ2 - Iron Nugget (yield 9); HQ3 - Gold Nugget (yield 3).

Not too shabby if you just happen to have one of these lying around, and know how to HQ just right :D
