You can steal them easily from the goblins, well at least in Sarutbuta. I was a LVL 7 THF and had a 95% steal rate. One failed attempt then the rest was coming like no tommorrow.
As for the synthing, can any one confirm that the receipe for Bronze Ingot that involves 4x Beastcoins is capped at LVL 2? I had it down as LVL 1 synth.
Ive been raking in lots of Fire Crystals, and what better way to use them than Smithing? (or selling) anyways, i got a +1 version on a Tin Ore, and 3 Coppor Ore, gave me 1 Bronze Ingot...Desynthed Bronze Leggings and got 2 Bronze Ingots, got a +1 on Bronze leggings and only got 1 Ingot, is it random the number you get, or is this Square Enix's idea of a sick prank o.O
All synths of Ingots from ore result in a singular ingot regardless of HQ.
Desynths are item dependant. Usually the number of ingots possible to attain from a desynth is directly linked to the amount of ingots used to make the item in the first place. The HQ normally gives you the number of ingots originally used to make the item with the NQ giving you one less. It wouldn't make sense to be able to desynth an item back to more than it's core ingredients. I.e desynthing a silver ring to get 3 silver ingots when it only took 2 silver ingots to make it.
It is worth noting that beastman items are usually different regarding ingot returns. I can only speak from goldsmithing but usually the NQ and HQ1 give you the same result and the HQ2 gives you a rarer ingot. I.e Moblin Mail, NQ and HQ1 results in 3 Brass Ingots and HQ2 results in a Gold ingot.
there will probably be exceptions that I've overlooked though.

Desynthing is really kind of an art. You can not just blindly attack it or you are just wasting gil. Pick your day well... And I say day because I have only found one day good for de-synthing and that is Dark day (that is a personal preference really, I can never remember the opposite of lightning... but that is supposed to work just as well). Now, setup your mog house to have at lease 1 (I would recommend ALOT more) point of Lightning De-synth furniture (you can get it from the fashion quest in windy if you are hard up... or is it the person at the airship... sorry too lazy to look it up, I just know that was the first item I started with). Now, rumor has it any de-synth will work (dark or lightning), but I like to stick with lightning for lightning de-synths... haven't found anything good for wind de-synths... (sorry I ramble. Ok, so you have your mog house setup, and you have your crystals, and your stuff you want to de-synth. I would recommend using your highest lvl job (personal theory). This theory is basically the stat you have that is influenced best by that element is the stat you want high. In this case, lightning, which is dex. Being a mithra thf I have noticed that my de-synth success far outshines what anyone ever says, which got me to thinking... and I have tried with other jobs on different days and have found that with my thf in full dex gear has a higher critical success rate then any of my other jobs. Unfortunately, I don't have numbers to back that up, but, that is my experience so take it with a grain of salt and try or do, I can't see the harm in going with your highest job when attempting to synth...
Oh, and lastly go to the guild!!! I can't stress that enough. Doesn't matter if you are above the lvl of the item you are crafting (in which case you are not trying to skill up...) or below. PAID synth support helps immensely. There are 2 assistants that do not charge and one that does... unless you are there for a quick craft do not go to the free ones... cause you get what you pay for.
With that being said, when de-synthing gobby masks to glass fibers on a non-dark day I have about a 1-10 success rate with about 3-5 of those being HQ 1-2s. On Dark day with synth support and mog enhancement I get over 60% success rate and less then 10% loss. However, the big boost is from the 70+% HQ 4 results. Seriously 8 out of 10 of my gobby masks make 8 glass fibers on a good day... some day I will try and find out what it takes to make it a good day, but you do the math. 1 gobby mask + 1 lightning crystal + 2 fire crystals + 2 light crystals = 1 stack of prism powders... I have posted this a million times, and will continue to praise de-synth.
Just remeber, jsut like a job you need to attack this with precision or you will get frustrated.
Now all my information here is not complete, there is minor details (such as moon phase or god help me if position matters), but, I average higher then the standard 50% on de-synthing, so something has to be in my favor.

first of all they are not lvl 0 synths that is not what (--) means that means they dont know what they are. Second desynthing usually requires a certain rank in a guild as far as i can tell. For example, i'm 22 smithing and it wont let me desynth backplates because i need to be a higher rank in the guild. Also i saw that under iron ingots recipes that goblin items are used to desynth into them and they are level 30 synth. Therefore i would believe that with a skill of about 20 or so you would be able to get bronze out of them. but as for backplates maybe a skill of 30? i'm not sure but i do know that goblin items are not a 0 lvl synth and i tried to desynth a helm at 15 and failed. I would also like to state that to make a ingot it is normally 4 ore + crystal or 1 ore + 6 nuggets + crystal with normal synthesis and using 4 copper ore will get u a copper ingot not a bronze. Bronze is 1 tin + 3 copper not 4 copper. Also, if u HQ an ingot it will not make 2 it can possibly make a better ingot ex. 4 iron ore = iron ingot but HQ is steel.
it takes time to raise your skill points. if you want to be serious in a skill, then u need to be decently wealthy and very patient. the skills up and determenation of success odds also depends on the day and the lunar phase

Ok, I have a question about skillpoints: I wanted to start smithing because I live in Bastok and wanted to earn some money. I go to the smithing-guild and sign myself up. There, I learn I could make a bronze-ingot out of 4 beastcoins and a fire-crystal. I get myself some beastcoins and fire-crystals, I synthesize the stuff and get a bronze-ingot. Perfect! But what the? No smithingskill points? I try again, nothing! I try 5 more times, still no skill points! What is wrong!!!? I'm still lv 0 (amateur). Can somebody please help me! What am I doing wrong?
Your not doing anything wrong. What you do is synth things that are over your level, like, since you are L v. 0 I would reccomend you us Copper ore 3x and Tin ore 1x. He is a site of what you should synth at low levels and up: http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/search/search.php
I think the HQ result is a Steel Ingot. Because i had obtained a Steel Ingot with a Lighting + Goblin Helm combine, and I had the special combine song.

i got bored the other day and i needed some ingots so i tried desynthing some bronze maces. I'm lvl 5 smithing and didn't think it would work, but it did, i got 2 bronze ingots, NOT HQ. i think the lvl is around lvl 14 or higher because i failed 10 out of 12 times afterward with image support on. I don't know if ne1 has posted this yet so here goes.
Around lvl 15. yields 1, sometimes 2 and prob a max of 3. lightning crystal of course. bronze mace. thats all u need
The HQ is actually just 1 ingot. On things like Ingots, HQ don't do anything. you'll still get the HQ animation, but it will just say "you synthesized a ____ Ingot!" and that will be it.
The Yagudo Bead Necklace and Lighting Crystal yields a Copper Ingot why this Recipe it's still here I Have lvl 3 Smithing and this combination adds me Goldsmithing points???

As I was brouseing the smithing list i noticed something very odd. To make a Bronze Ingot it says you can use a Lightning Crystal and a Quadav Backplate. But yet it says for the Iron Ingot you can use a Lightning Crystal and a Quadav backplate. It also says the same thing for a Silver Ignot. Is this just a mistake or does it depend on your skill level which of the three you getor what?
Demoncell, The lightning crystals are most commonly used for Desynthesis, I.E. the breaking apart of an item into what was used to make it.
Therefore, the Quadav's must use a silver ingot, a bronze ingot, and an iron ingot to make Quadav Backplates.

I left FFXI. 300 days of playtime. Tired of it, partly. Sometimes all it takes is one person to ruin something for you. Basically, Hellich is a bastard. If you see him on Leviathan, stay away. If you MUST deal with him, then don't believe a word of the poison that spills from his mouth. It's all deceit.
This recipe is level 51 for DESYNTH ONLY. Look at the recipes guys! I mean come on! It says it is a lvl 2 Smith with Copper Ore x3 and Tin Ore x1. It says it is a lvl 51 Smith with a Lighting Crystal and a Quadav Backplate. Duh.
I am 4th level in smithing and it will let me attempt to melt down a helm and mail with a lightning crystal but I failed with both. I didnt use the guildies to help me synthesize it(support). Is it just me but shouldn't ingots be 0 level stuff? Does anyone know what level you need to be to consistantly be able to make ingots out of goblin stuff?
I agree... I waited until I was Smithing level 1 and the system told me that the the Goblin Mail/Helm synth was above my skill, so that stuff definately ISN'T 0-level...
Although I doubt it is level 1 it is not high level either. Lightning synthesis is always risky. you will fail at least 50% of the time if not more, no matter what level you are. However what level you are determines what you will get from the item. For instance Goblim mail break down into 3 bronze ingots OR 2 iron ingots OR 1 steel ingot when you apply a lightning crystal.
This is a bad way to get bronze as you will fail often and you will not get skill out of it, so I do not recommend you try it.
The mob that u are looking for that drop beast coins in windurst are called yagudo's (bird like men). The best place 2 get these coins are in giddeus. They drop both beastcoins and silver beastcoins.
In answer to confused. You can use either way to synth bronze ingot. 4x beastcoin or 3x copper ore and 1x tin ore. Both are synth'd with fire.
In answer to coin. BEASTMAN SEALS are not the same as beastman coins. Seals are used for higher lvl players (was told for lvl 40). Just to let u know that they are harder to get the higher lvl you are so start collecting them now. They do stack to 99.
I tried both the Goblin Mail and Goblin Helm with a Light Crystal and got the message saying that this was not a valid combination. I then tried them with Lightning Crystal and got the message saying it was beyond my current abilities.
The Beastcoins do drop off of mobs, I've had them drop from a couple goblins in Thiene before. I was surprised, I thought you could only get them through stealing, but it dropped none the less.
i don't think you have to steal beastcoins (i may have gotten one or two by sheer luck as a drop), but the best way i've gotten them was to steal from the beastmen of the area (goblins, orcs, yagudo, quadav, etc.)
Lightning Crystal + Goblin Mail = 3 Bronze Ingots =========== Not sure how high the craft needs to be to do this one though. Got the Recipe from a Japanese Player :)
4 beastcoin and 1 fire crystal still giving me some smithing point, but i didn't get any alchemy point so far. There is something special i need to do to up alchemy instead of smithing or that won't work? :x
I was just in the Smithing guild wasting time til the shop opened. Thought I'd see what recipes they that. One of them told me to make bronze ingots. All I would need is 1x fire crystal, 1x tin ore and 6x Bronze nuggets. I'm not sure how to get bronze nuggets though... Maybe from the mining? I think I remember seeing some item with the discription of "this cantians many small chunks of copper" maybe there are some with bronze and that were the nuggets are from? But anyways, there is another recipe straight from the smithing guild.
The reason why you guys probably haven't heard of Beastcoins is because you aren't a thief. Beastcoins are stolen from beastmen, like orcs and goblins and quadavs. Some mobs, like Goblin Fishers, for example will sometimes yield a fishing pole instead. For the Bronze Ingot, however, I have only crafted them using the smithing recipe:
Fire Crystal + 4 Beastcoins
I tried to do the Alchemy one, but I was told I couldn't Synthesize it. To clear up some confusion here's the other ingot recipes you are inquiring about:
Ingots can be made using the 3x copper + 1x tin combination (fire), or beastcoin x4 (fire). You can steal beastcoins off of Orcs or Goblins.
Regarding the alchemy one, I have a 2 in smithing, and a 0 in alchemy, and using a single water crystal and a single beastcoin, I cannot synth an ingot. Perhaps it really is a beastman coin needed?
Ok I think I have a little more info on this. First off, the item is a Beast Coin, not beastMAN coin :) I don't want that confusing anybody looking to get these.
I think the Beast Coins drop off the mobs near Windhurst. I can't remember the name of the mob but it's the equivalent to San d'Oria's goblins and orcs and Bastok's Quadav's. I'm thinking of making a suicide run over to Windhurst to slaughter a few mobs and see what drops.
I have never seen a beastman coin, i have like 14 beastman seals, does anyone know if they are the same thing? If not, what are the beastman seals used for I cant find info on them anywhere?
I'm confused...the recipe the guy at the guild gave me said to use a fire crystal and 4 beast coins. Now this site is saying a fire crystal, 3 copper ore and 1 tin ore?
