Warning to high level cooks- Great pain ahead.

In parties, its either Sole Sushi or Arrabbiato. But when it comes to soloing food- I always eat something even for something like soloing quests, leveling NPC, soloing avatars, etc, I always bring along Carbonaras.

I used to buy them, but decided to stop being so lazy and make them myself. Well, this particular synth is a huge pain. Just a warning to higher level (80+) cooks who decide to make this for self or for profit. I'll tell you right now, if its for profit, you will probably make a better gil/hour rate doing something else if you are a higher level cook, this recipe is not worth the time needed.

You know those recipes where you specifically need to make a side-ingredient first due to that ingredient not being readily available? You know how painful that is- well, think of that x3.

Here are the 3 things you'll probably need to make ahead of time:

Stone cheese: You leveled off of these near the 60s, and most likely you sold it all off to NPCs just like everyone else. You may find 1-2 stacks on ah, but chances are you're going to have to make it yourself.

Spaghetti: Amazingly enough, no one makes these, or at least, no one likes to AH them. Probably because semolina is expensive (roughly 2000g each) and w/out HQ, its 1:1 synth ratio. No one wants to pay 20,000G+ for a stack of pasta ingredients, and no one wants to sell if if they can't get much profit from it. Time to make your own spaghetti.

Buffalo Jerky: THIS IS YOUR MAIN CAUSE OF PAIN. You probably won't find much of these on ah, if at all. Plus they usually sell for 30,000G per stack. So chances are, this particular incredient you will always be making yourself for Carbonara. If for some reason, you really, really want to keep making carbonaras, you might want to consider leveling your mule's cooking to 36 because at 100, you'll be HQing 60-70% of it... and you obviously cannot use the HQ version for carbonara! Ugh. What a waste. At least, people seem to actually buy the Bison Jerky- at a lower cost rate (not to mention profit loss on your end) than the NQ version! Heh.

Anyway, 3 sets of ingredients (3 stacks of each ingredients) made me 68 pieces of Carbonara, 6 pieces Carbonara +1, and it took me I kid you not, 4 hours total work time (well, one reason it took so long is because Sandoria was in 3rd place, so some of the ingredients I had to fly around for- everyone needs to level up cooking to realize they need to keep Sandoria in 1st place to make cooking easier dammit! heh). Is that worth it? I'll leave that up to you.

Me, well, I'm going to be eating all that, not selling it, so it should hold me for a fairly long time, so its somewhat worth it as I won't be doing that again for a while. As far as profit goes if you were to sell it- well, I'll leave all the calculations to you.

It's an awsome food for soloing drg's. Since it ups your HP max, it ups your healing breath mark. Store TP is always nice for a few extra WS's. +2 Vit isn't much, but hey, it's still there. +4 str and attack +18%, I don't know when it caps though.

I guess with the last update they switched the olive oil for holy basil. Annoying since olive oil is almost always on sale in sandy
Store TP+6?

I just did some testing with my BST75, and found that Carbonara added 6% TP, not 4% as I would expect from the description.

Maneater (delay 276)
BST75/WHM37: 7.2TP/hit
+Carbonara: 7.6TP/hit (+6%)
BST75/SAM29: 7.9TP/hit (+10%)

Plantreaper (delay 480)
BST75/WHM37: 12.0TP/hit
+Carbonara: 12.7TP/hit (+6%)
BST75/SAM29: 13.2TP/hit (+10%)
+Carbonara: 13.9TP/hit (+16%)

So it seems that Carbonara is Store TP+6, not +4.

Ok. So to clear this up once and for all...

With a dagger I get 6tp/hit. (delay of under 200). So with that said TP+4 means I will get 10tp/hit? Or no?

lol... Steal from Maat... easy... I understand what you're trying to say, but I know some THFs that are 0/25+ on him. Needless to say, I plan on coming fully ready to beat the old man down if my steal fails. THF are solo machines anyway, and I want the bragging rights of being able to say I laid him out, not that I reached into his pocket and took his Warp Scroll.

Back on topic... I really would like to see how this food measures up in xp situations. I have been searching for a balanced TP/ATT food and this may be it. Can anyone post parsed results showing the effect of the Store TP +4 on TP gain from melee attacks?

As a thf/nin (or mnk/war for that matter) the store tp would be useless, someone did a parse on thf/sam and they found out that store tp doesnt help at all when you break the tp "floor" i.e. your base delay is <200 with 1 1h weapon, or <400 with 2 1h weapons.

The logic is that store tp makes it as if you hit with a higher delay weapon i.e. 450 delay GK gets tp of a 550 dealy GS. If you're using daggers your 180 delay dagger (5tp) hits like a 220 delay dagger (5.25 tp) the differences is so small as to be useless.

Well that's disappointing. Guess I'll have to stick with either kabobs or sushi. Thanks for the info though ^^
Ultimate maat food

This has been discussed in the monk forum extensively, but any DD that needs to beat down Maat will probably benefit from this as well.

That +14% HP caps at 175hp. Add to that faster TP gain and all the STR and attack benefits of a standard DD melee food.

Simply put, if you dont have an "easy" job secific way to win (such as whm healing, or thf stealing) this is probably the food for you if your only goal is to break that old mans hip.
Gah.

This almost looks like a pretty useful Dark Knight food for mid level Dark Knights. Somepage says the caps for hp are 175@1249 HP and attack caps at 65@361, with the extra hp and vitality being useful if they're a first voke, or for Souleater... plus the +4 store tp is just icing
of course there is a -3 int penalty, but you do get 10 more mp...

Damn I might use this for my Paladin, that HP bonus is huge. Wonder if it would be worth it sacrificing the def bonus of say, a tav taco for the hp increase? I'm going to test the damage differences against hnms I think... more to come!

It looks like this would be a great drg/whm food. The mp str vit hp +%14 are basically all I need. but maybe crab will be better cuz of the vit. I'm gonna try this out asnyway.
Job?
# Jun 14 2005 at 6:52 AM Rating: Default
Can someone please tell me if other jobs other than samurai can benefit from Store TP??? I am not a samurai so I have no idea if it does or not but I am a level 98 cook and my job is level 69 so I'm not a noob! If it helps me gain tp faster, it might be a good food for when I'm going solo while farming and using a weapon skill with certain buffs that would make it do 1000 damage instead of 500-600, more of those more often and you can see my point in asking this question.

Well, if it's consistent with the way the wording in the rest of the game works, then any job gets the benefit of it. Typically if they want it to be restricted to a job that already has the trait, it would say something like "Enhances Store TP". But since it's "Store TP: 4", that means it's 4 added to anyone that eats the food. So if you eat it, and you don't normally have Store TP, you gain the effects of it until the food runs out.

+5 TP store does not work with Ranged Attack

Useless for rangers

This is really old but I'd like to comment on the idiocy above.

sTP does influence Ranged Attacks. Always.

HQ stacks.

So far I've done

NQ = 2 carbonara
HQ1 = 4 carbonara
HQ2 = 2 carbonara+1

For someone with my skill level I think the hardest part in this synth is making the buffalo jerky. Since the jerky is a level 36 cap synth I seem to HQ it more than NQ it. The HQ of the jerky called Bison Jerky cannot be used in the synth of carbonara. I tried it and it didn't work.

the NQ does stack, but the +1 carbonara does not.

I'm gonna do some more tests, but so far, I think this food raises: Accuracy, atk, str, HP, MP, and I hear it gives a TP Bonus.
