I just got one of these to drop off of a Camazotz in the uncapped Pso'Xja entrance near Ranguemont Pass.

As part of Chains of Promethia mission 3-5, you have to trade a Carmine/Grey/Cyan chip to Ghebi Damomohe, the receptionist in Neptune's Spire.
Zone and talk to her again and she will ask for this item (Florid Stone). Trading it to her will get you the Key Item: Astral Covenant, which grants you access to the 'strange portal' in the Shrouded Maw section of Pso'Xja.
The Shrouded Maw also has an ENM called "Test Your Mite" (40 cap) which is ridiculously easy and drops a Geist Earring, a Quick Belt and a Woodsman Ring.

Found this today in Pso'Xja off a Dire Bat, level 66-68? dunno the level but it definitely 100% drops off dire bats in pso'xja as well.

Not a guaranteed drop because I got it on my first kill off of the diremite on the top floor, and never got any florid stones from dire mites at any of the floors when I killed them.

This item is used to get the key item for the 'Test your mite' ENM in Shrouded Maw, against a dermimite type creature. Don't know much more then that, it's level 40 capped. You have to have opened up Mission 3.5 I think in CoP.
After you get your pass, to be able to enter the area you fight diablo in, you can talk to the mithra in the tensendo again and she'll ask for this gem. Give it to her to get the key item.
