Less DMG?

Ok maybe I'm just gimped.

On Lightningsday, with Rairin Obi on a Tier III and IV I actually did LESS DMG then with Penitent. I tried a tier II and with the Obi, hit for 47 MORE DMG. However, anything higher, III AGAIII IV Tier spells, I hit for about 50 less.

I tried this a lot and it happened constantly, these were not resists. Anyone have something similar happen? This doesn't make any sense.

I hope all the posters who were unsure wether this was a awsome equip piece by now know that all of them are hot as hell.

The great thing about these is that the effects stack, so for example, on Lightningsday, you have the potential to add 30% bonus to your thunder based spells, and, 40% with the AFv2 pants. I can confirm a Thudaga 3 non-burst on the day + 2 weather effects for 1891.

The information quoted above is slightly incorrect. The items you need to obtain the Rairin Obi are as follows:

Purple Chip
Silver Obi
3 X Luminian Tissue
7 X Phuabo Organ
3 X Hpemde Organ

Facts about this and other Obis
# Jun 07 2005 at 2:43 PM Rating: Decent
These obis don't give you the effect all the time. I'll give an example as to how they work.

You know how, during a day like Thundersday or Thunder weather, your Thunder spells sometimes get a +10% damage bonus? Well, if you wear the Rairin Obi during that time, instead of getting that 10% bonus some of the time, you will get it all of the time. The same applies for weather effects, too.

These do NOT give you anything extra. They do not "create" the effect for you. They simply guarantee what would be a random effect while the conditions are met. In that regard, they work the same way BLM AF2 pants do, and those effects (pants and obi) are cumulative. This means that during Thundersday, while wearing AF2 pant and Rairin Obi, you get a guaranteed +20% damage bonus to Thunder spells.

A Taru Blm friend and I use to duo Fire elementals in Sky all the time. So after a few hundred elementals (T and VT's) we have a "general" feeling of how much more damage he does as well as how much damage each of use will do.

This was NOT a scientific study. This is just what we noticed. On Lightningsday, his AFb pants seems to do about a 5% increase in damage. The Rairin Obi does 10% more.

This Obi is probably one of the Blm's highest priority once they get access to Al'taieu.

This + Lightnings Ring and u would have +15 accuracy at all times.
good for SMN...?
# May 18 2005 at 8:22 PM Rating: Default
Mabie, with this belt and the SMN relic Body and Head they could get -6 cost to Ramuh? It is just a gess, but if so, it would be awsome for all SMNs...

would it be the same as BLM AF2 pants on which you can see "Elemental magic affected by day"?
RE: BLM AF2?
# May 18 2005 at 1:27 PM Rating: Default
From what i am told form my JP friends, wearing this gives u what ever effect that day the obi is about for ur character.

In example: If i have Mighty Patas wich have DMG+17 (DMG+22 only on firesday) and i have the firesday version of this Obi, then this means i will have DMG+22 on any day as long as i wear that firesday version obi.

In conclusion this one will open any effect that is triggered by Lightning effect or weather. These Obi's (if there is more than 1 version) would make the Mighty weapons very worth having.

yeah <element>obi will only work on <element>day and you will get the bonus of this day every spell instead of 1/10 or less.

So back to my question ^^ is that the way the BLM AF2 legs works? (with the difference that wearing it would be like wearing all the <element>obis at the same time)
um.. Where?
# May 18 2005 at 12:26 PM Rating: Decent
Can any1 tell us where do u get this?

and other Obi like this..

Dark, Light, Fire, Ice, Water, Wind, Earth

I guess all the mages r carrying Elemental Staff + these Obi would take up alot of space....

NVM,
I found where u can get this item now..
it's a Quest @ Tavnazia Safehold

Name of the Quest is "In the name of Science"
and u need to be @ CoP Mission 8-1 to get these Obi(s) and along with other items from the quest.

Hmm. Everyone is concerned with SMN using this for effect, or melee for the +acc on the ring. What I'm wondering is, what would this do for Desynthesis results? The obi is ALL jobs, and it gives you the effect of both the day and the weather. Anyone who has ever desynthed anything will tell you that you had better do it on Lightningday.

Just a thought~

I was going to try to get these for Smn to test it, but I figure it's a waste of time. I have several Blm friends that confirmed these Obi does not grant them the "day's effect" when wore, like many people were hoping. What it did for them was this... Like many other mages should know you have an odd chance of doing 10% more damage casting Blizzard on Ice day or ice weather. The Obi allows the bonus damamge every single time, which is a HUGE bonus... for blms.

I was the one that sent this info in (about a month ago when I first got it). The post above is correct in the function of the obi. I have 5 now, and I can confirm that what was said is true. ^^

The nice thing about the obi is the fact that the obi effect stacks with the bonus provided with AF2 pants. In effect, you can have +20% damage to the spell that matches the obi/day you are casting.

from the rumors it does not, i can see these making our corrosponding avatar stronger, but not effecting equipment

maybe as a mage I can help clear this up? The most noticible 'element of day effect' that we see as whm's is when lightsday comes around and -once in a while- the cure gets boosted by 10%. pretty obvious when it happens as well. If there was a lightsday version of this (there might be, dunno) then simply put on lightsday you'd get the bonus on EVERY spell you cast, instead 1/10 or whatever is the going rate.

Combining this belt with the lightning ring isn't the mega cool trick that it seems, at first. You'd be using your belt and one ring slot for +15 acc, which is good.
But, most of us melees out there are wearing a life belt and sniper's ring, which is a belt and ring slot combined for +15 acc. Same deal, it's just gonna depend on cost considerations, really.

And yes, I know that not everybody has 2 sniper's rings. that's not the point, duh. get whichever alternative is affordable.

Thunder spells are significantly more powerful on thundersday/thunder weather. If this didn't work for elemental magic, the only real use would be the lightning ring. Not sure if it would work for astral flow, much less any other Ramuh bloodpacts.
Clarification?
# May 18 2005 at 2:24 AM Rating: Decent
Full benefit, like the description says, not a partial benefit like only getting it during certain conditions like 1 day or when weather is right. If you analyze the description, that is what it means.

The Lightning Ring gained from fighting Ramuh, for example, has accuracy +15 on lightningday only, having full benefit would mean all the time. Doesn't that seem to make sense? Sushi adds accuracy +15 percent. Take your normal accuracy, add in this ring, THEN add 15 percent from sushi and it would be like having accuracy bonuses from a bard or summoner. Add a bard or summoner in your party and you would hardly ever miss, unless you hardly have any accuracy gear to begin with.

Hope that sheds some light on the situation.

No no no, you are not understandng clearly.

You gain the full benefit of the Bonuses. This means that with out this Obi you are only getting te Partial benefits, I.e not all the time.

On Lightnigs day you have a chance to do +10 more damamage with Thunder spells. meaning you partialy gain this bonus. The same with Thunder weather. You can some times gain spell damage increase.

On Lightnings day you also have a chance to do 10% less water magic damage.

With the Thunder Ring, you always gain the benefit of the equipment on Lightnigns day. This Obi does not

" Grants the effect of : Lightings day"

The fact that is uses the phrase " Full benefit" is proof enough that it is for spell damage

Im guessing that you can equip this item and items that get benefits on lightening day or when there is lightening, so that you get those benefits all the time.

The only items i know of that you get special bonuses in the rain are like the Monsoon boots or whatever they are called where you get some accuracy bonus in the rain.

This isnt the only item like this, nor is it a totally adequate or accurate description of the monsoon items, it is merely an example of some weather affected gear that i know off.
RE: Big Guess
# May 18 2005 at 2:26 AM Rating: Excellent
It's a high-level SMN's wet dream, actually.

There's two pieces of AF2 that decrease avatar perpetuation by 3 when the day or weather pattern corresponds with the avatar you are using. Equip this while you're wearing those two pieces, and suddenly your 10 MP/tick Ifrit costs you only 4 MP/tick. Add an HQ Fire Staff and the Evoker's Ring, and suddenly you're keeping the big red dude out... for FREE.

For those of us without those AF2 pieces, weather and day increases avatar damage, accuracy, and HP significantly. It does the same thing with other elemental spells. Basically, any mage would want to consider picking up a few of these obis. Melees, though, may want to look elsewhere.
