Still Confused
# Jul 09 2007 at 10:33 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I'm still trying to figure out if I should invest the time in these. Seems like there are conflicting reports and I'm trying to clarify. So, hypothetical situation:
RDM/BLM on Earthsday casting on some typical mob with no special resistance.
Let's say that RDM casts Slow. The spell MIGHT gain a bonus from being an earth based spell on earthsday, but its sort of random. Now if that rdm equipped the earthsday obi, it seems like everyone agrees they would then be assured of gaining the full bonus of earthsday. But lets say that rdm casts something like Drain, using the corresponding obi (this one). Do they gain the full benefit of darksday? I'm really hoping that is how it works. If so I'm going to make it a priority to get the full set. If not... they don't seem to be very useful, situationally great, but it would be hard for me to justify 8 inventory spaces for such a situational piece.

EDIT: Since it's been a while and nobody responded, I doubt anyone checks this page really... but for anyone who has the same question I did... it only enhances the bonus of the current day. So on earthsday you would get a bonus to slow if you had the correct obi, but no bonus to drain with the correct obi... sort of a let-down in my opinion...

Doesn't effect Avatar perpetuation Rates.

this makes sence, because it reads "full benefit". the perp bonuses based on day are not variable, so in fact you already get the "full effect" with your normal perp cost. This would only effect something where the day/weather could enhance it but doesn't always, like a spell.

Hmmm...

I know this doesn't give you or max-out the day effects except on the specific day. But does it process Shadow Mantle, and Shadow Ring more often on Darksday? If it does, then you pretty much just became a god.
Smn benefits?

Has anyone tested or tried crafting with any of these on? And if you could, do you think it would help with making HQ or not losing any materials if you bust?

I did Drain with one of these on during Darksday on our last Dynamis run. I got a Drain of 386. I forgot to put my AFb pants on though.. I might have been able to hit 400.

To get the reward of Anrin Obi in the quest "In the In the Name of Science." you trade Yurim (First Floor, Tavnazia) a Silver Obi, black chip, 5 Luminian Tissue, and 5 Euvhi Organ.

Do these belts also change the HQ rate, success rate, etc for crafting? It'd be sweet if it did.
how the obis work

From what I gather, the elemental Obis do not activate weather/day effects on other pieces of equipment. So for instance, if you wear an Anrin Obi + Shadow Mantle and it's not Darksday, you will not get the +20 VIT bonus.

The way these work is, if you cast an elemental spell of the same element as the obi on the corresponding element day, you will get a 10% damage bonus. If you cast an elemental spell of the same element as the obi during the corresponding weather element is in effect, you will get a 10% damage bonus. If you cast an elemental spell of the same element as the obi during the corresponding double weather element, you will get an additional 10% damage bonus. So if you cast a Fire spell on Firesday during double fire weather with the corresponding fire obi equipped, your fire spell would do an extra 30% damage.

elkins is right, these don't "create" the effect, the simply guarantee effects that would otherwise be random.

The Elemental Obis grant you the "full effect" of the weather/day of whatever element the obi is. For instance, the Anrin Obi grants the full weather/day effect of Darksday/Dark weather element. If you use the obi as a SMN, with the equipment that gives you -perpetuation cost of the avatar when it's element is present, that -perp cost will ALWAYS be active as long as the obi is worn.

The obis also give bonuses to magic of their element, in the area of 10% as you said.

This belt is from a quest in Al'teiu...
grants the wearer the effects of darksday/dark weather while worn. So... a blm would do 10% extra damage with a dark based spell, or a summoner wearing AF2 Head and body could have -6 perpetuation for fenrir while wearing it. <3 (theoretically)
