This item is pretty useless. Not gaining experience under the level cap is ok, but the fact that you lose experience when you die under the cap defeats the purpose in my opinion. It's like a punishment for getting other people to join the game.
What he said. This item represents everything that's wrong in SE's design mentality.

Ok, im a lvl 70 drg, my GF just started playing and she is lvl 6, but she never actually plays, i got her a gold world ass and should b getting my beret in a few days, my question is:
Can in put the beret in lets say SArutabaruta, zone my GF, and start soloing my drg at lvl 1 rate? if i can do it that would b incredibly sweet!!! i could even get a friend to PL me and i can get mor xp an hour than with regular solo, instead of 70-100 xp per fight (with emp ban) make that a nice 200 xp per fight at soloing rate it seems sweet!!!, you could actually lvl almost every job 50+ on your own. Maybe you will just need to take it off when you are close to lvl, lets say 31800/32000 and then go and regular solo those last 200.
Please tell me if someone knows about this or have tried it out.
Meh, nvm i just read the part about not gaining any xp, blegh, y would I want to use this if I wont get any?! I might just as well lvl a low job with her.
this is the funest item in the game...change to your main job, make your friend be lvl 1, then u de lvl, then tell your hnm ls that you pissed off a gm...laughing for hours
My and my wife on Leviathan server have these, she has the Sprout Beret, and I have the Guide Beret. We got them a very long time ago.. at least 4-6 months. When we first got them we used them rioght away to check it out and it worked. Now we try again all this time later and it gets to about 10-15% and stops.. won't activate.. has anyone else had this problem, and if so any solution?
My sister and I just figured why the Guide Beret appears not to work. When you click on it in the Item menu to use it, it will bring up the purple subcursor. If you click again, and use it on yourself, the timer won't finish and nothing will happen. What you have to do is use the subcursor to target the person wearing the Sprout Beret, and use your Guide Beret on THEM. Then it will activate and lower your level.
I think its pretty silly that you dont get any gain from lowering your level to match the sprout beret. Other than the unique item, i think its a waste of time. If my friend wants to play the game, i'll just party with him as one of my lower leveled jobs or jobs i havent touched yet. I guess this if for the guy who got all the jobs to 75 ;P
You don't have to keep the hat on. You can pop the hat on for 30 seconds get the level cap, then swap to your usual headgear.
Then the sprout cap's ability is to remove this level cap. The big draw back is that you can only use it once a half hour, so at low levels the cap can hold you back from other party memebers if they can gain levels too fast.

EDIT: ok i answered my question myself ^^"
Quote:
Guide Beret and Sprout Beret These are special hats that operate as a pair. When two adventurers equip these hats and form a party, the level of the character with the Guide Beret is restricted to the level of the character with the Sprout Beret, thus allowing them to enjoy adventuring and leveling together. *The level restriction effect of the Guide Beret will only activate when the job level of the character with the corresponding Sprout Beret equipped is under level 50. *Players who are under the level restriction effect of the guide beret cannot gain EXP.
