so i'm semi seriously camping VE and I notice LOST in now in from netflix.. so i think i can keep track of the 5 min PH pop.. well.. Before i knew it i widescanned and saw VE, but he was claimed.. BAH.. after maybe 15 minutes of camping

some noob asked for a raise, saw he was lvl20 WHM, no sub job.. i figured what the hell.. i'll help him get the magicked skull.. in gusgen mines.. he didn't have a dem crystal /sigh, so we went and got that (told him it would have been soo much easier if i could have just ported him) took him there, 5 ghouls later.. a skull. i port us out, (was BRD75/WHM37, for mazurka of course) and escort him to selbina, job change back to THF/RNG and Flee to the camp.

I scanned and.. there he was.. i start my little taru legs over there.. no flee (has just used it) there he was.. unclaimed.. got the drop

Least I got LL the other night. The PH method works perfectly, as long as you don't have some idiots killing every fly in the zone. Or some bst that randomly decided "LOLCHARM" and turns the hour respawn into 6 hours (happened first 2 times -_-) Good luck all, unless you're on Ramuh, then boo on you

I was passing through dunes and figured long as I was there might as well switch to /rng and camp for a bit. Not my first time camping him, but I've never caught him. I only waited about 20 minutes, with 2 other thf's there, one /rng, and one /war, when VE pops near me and the thf/war, and I lucked out and claimed him with steal.

Almost (if not exactly) 5 years to the day I started the game and I finally caught VE for the first time 5 minutes and got the drop!

I'm 0/7 on this bish! The PH system is great but i'm getting no drops (/cry)
and i'm THF45/RNG22 x.x; this game hates me...

Finally got this hairpin after about a straight month of camping this bastard. It may be of note that I went 0/29 on WHM75/RNG1, then just for fun changed to BLU38/RNG1 and got the drop. One of the (very polite *gasp*) campers who saw me kill it said it was just luck that I got it on my lower level job, but idk......

One thing the guide did not mention is the PHs might have a limited pop range, but VE can pop anywhere in the area.

So I had a few hour spare last night and decided to go for this.

Started at 10, without widescan. Running about killing any damselfly I saw, never saw him spawn (nor did any of the other 2 campers I think). At 12 I decided I'd go get widescan and try to work out the placeholder since the other 2 campers had left.

Came back to Valkurm and was the only one left, tried the widescan placeholder thing but couldn't seem to get it to work.Was always comming up with groups of 5 or two groups of 4 damselflys, until I positioned myself inbetween the rocks in top right E-8, seemed to work there. 2 Place holder kills later, and he spawns :D

I was lucky that the party right next to him didn't notice he had spawned as I was at the other side of his spawn area (seems to be D-8 to F-9, F-9 is where it spawned for me while I was at E-8 killed the PH at E-9) got the claim and the pin :D

In total about 18hours (over a few weeks 2-4hours per sitting) and one claim, guess I'm just lucky. Had 3/3 on Bounding Boots :P Hoping for the same lucky with argus *keeps everything crossed*

edit: forgot to say I killed him as 66whm/1rng, easy kill.

Got mine a couple months ago for ma thf, was 45ish thf/rng 1 other camper. Killed a couple flies, skilled up marks (totally gimped) VE popped, hit flee macro, /ra got the claim, the other person camping probably wouldve got it if they also had flee.
But, 1/1, alot of other people ive talked to are also 1/1 on this, did they increase the rate? or just lucky?

Wish theyd do the same for LL, or i wish i had the same luck >.<

I got my Empress Hairpin as a 44 sam / 22 war. I'm 1/7 on this NM.

Didn't get any party invite so I went down the Dunes to check out to see if there were any campers for VE. I was lucky enought to see only one camper (appeared to be afk.)I stayed by the oasis/beach area and killed a few damesfly. Next thing later, it poped, killed it, and amazingly got the drop.

put in 28 hrs am 3/12(lost the 1st 2 in the lot) and made a discovery...
TH does help i had a thf w/ me 1 time we killed VE twice got the drop both times killed him 10 other times and only get 1 so i think TH does hlep a little

2 for 3 and the only reason for not getting the first one? I died.

and I know, here come the "WTF why would you try a second time, its EX"

I got it Tuesday after camping 2 hours. Thursday my friend was farming in the dunes, and I needed some lizard skins, figured I'd get carbuncles ruby as well. Told him to send me a party invite, in case I saw the VE, since he didnt have one yet. Killed the PH for fun, with 6 campers around. 5 minutes later, it pops. I run over, and some poor level 17 is dead from it, Kill it, drop.

Suck for the little guy. He sais he was 0/10 on it, and he was there to party, and got aggro'd. ;( /cry

0/1... Spent 30+ mins looking for a tele and finally got pissed off and offered 10k for a tele-dem. Rode over and 15 mins of waiting and I pick him up with widescan. Run to him while the other 5 campers stood around with their thumbs in the A$$ and got claim killed it but no drop... guess I'll try again tomorrow. 55mnk/7rng lol gogo chi-blast?

I love my drop-rate from NM's. 1/3 on this baby, 1/1 on leaping lizzy. thats right, suck up that envy :P. QUETZALCOATL FTFW! camped on whm/blm btw flash to claim

these are great for low lvl thief and nin evasion rocks. i got mine 1/1 and i love em. was pretty frustrating to camp though went 4 hours without a pop and then ended up popped right behind me. a terribly easy fight. dont give up on this NM it has a really decent drop rate everyone i know that has the empress pin has never gone past 5 claims without a pin.

Arg, posted this in the wrong spot. But since this is here now, I'll just say that I finally got mine this morning after camping it for a few hours, 2/3 on the claims and it dropped on my 2nd kill.

0/8 starting to really hate VE

camped for about 20 mins just now. 5-6 other people around camping. spawns near me, i get claim (tho, i thought i was too far when i casted dia, tho if i didnt, a thf prolly woulda gotten it, and if i was too far, he'd prolly have gotten it, so i tried anyway lol)

put some crappy equip on, and attacked, listening to someone beg me for it, purposely taking longer then i need to kill it (like 20 secs longer), because of that (lol). down to 10%, {Spirits Within} 300% tp, red health (convert ftw), owns it, and got the drop!

1/1 ~.^

camped for 1 hour and then a 75 pld came along, i asked him if he wanted pt to help camp it since i had 26 thf subbed, for treasure hunter, he said sure, bout an hour later he claimed it and pin drop and we rolled and i got it ^^

Got claim 3/3 drop 1/3 the placeholder trick works flawlessly, 2nd claim was against 15 campers at 6am so dont always expect off hours to be slow. Easy as a 46THF/23BST. Charm ftw. Goodluck my fellow campers.

This thing OMFG its soooooo annoying camped it from about 8:30 am GMT till 12:30 then it pops my heart is racing i run over flash>>>melee>>>vorpal blade>>>melee>>>melee at this point it dies from my great strength :P i wait a @#%^ing insect wing. i felt like smashing my TV and braking my xbox. now just trying again hoping for a quick pop

wide scan really helps im PLD/RNG 60/10 but levels dont matter. just keep watching between the snippers and leeches and it will pop, eventually.

i hope no one else has a 4 hour pop but if u do be patient and i hope u get the drop unlike me.

just going to take down another place holder ill update if i get the drop or not.^^

17 hours camping straight 8 claims, 1 drop... finally! Two incidents where 2 random THF who been afk all the time stole VE while i had my back turned. After some offensive words and a few /blists im ok now... with my kickass hairpin w00t!

1/35 as of last nite!
