So, I'm levelling one of my mules out in La Theine, and come across "BirdEgg" on the ground (at the southern spawn point). Never heard of it before, don't remember seeing Nihni in ANY of the NM lists so it didn't really mean much to me. I clicked on it, got an egg, and all of a sudden, the text comes up and pop goes the NM... Being 20WAR/10MNK, I expected to die, triggered Mighty Strikes, and by the time it wore, the NM was down to about 50%... I wasn't far from 50% myself, tho it wasn't attacking much faster than a normal Akbaba in the area, just hittin for 10+ per hit. I countered a few, WSed a few times, and poof, I had myself a Van Pendant, which beats the hell outta the stupid Justice Badge I'd stuck on the character for the DEF boost... got 52 exp as well with my Chariot Band active (yes, this is a mule, and I went cheap with him, so those givin me crap over the gimp ring or neck piece can sod off).

No clue as to 100% drop rate, I've seen plenty of other R/E drops NOT be 100%, lame as that is. Made me a happy camper tho, for once. If I'd'a been actively seeking the NM n drop, I'd'a prolly never seen it, or died, or not gotten the drop... :p

Be well n stuff

Critical hit RATE meaning the chances of the enemy actually hitting you, there would be a dispute on it's effect however if it said "Enemy Critical Hit - 1%"

Actually, there's no dispute here. Its exactly the same text as given with the merit at level 75. This doesn't reduce the chance of an enemy hitting you, just lowers the chance that the hit will be a critical. You can merit this at 75 at 1% per merit (pretty crap, but what can ya do), so its nice to see it available at a low level.

Just got this the other day while exping thf, a quick question about it. Does anyone here know how this stat works? Its a meritable stat too.

Theres 2 ways I could see this working.
1. It reduces the Enemy's chance for a critical.
E.G. The enemy has a 4% chance for a critical now it has a 3% chance.
Awsome

or

2. It makes the enemy critical 1% less time
E.G.out of 100 criticals it will only do 99 >_<;
Crappy as hell

XD I havent really been able to notice the difference wonder if anyone has tested it

actually, that's pretty much the same thing... but since enemies don't have an alloted number of criticals per battle, the second choice is impossible.

I noticed this today after getting Van Pendat, i was xping in Korolloka Tunnel with just melee and no mages. Somehow the mob was getting paralyzed....thinking was a member in the pt...nope I soloed mobs and still <mob name> is Paralyzed would still appear. I took of Van Pendant and poof it never popped up again. Anyone else see this happen to them?

In my opinion this is one hell of a low level melee must have item if it keeps paraing the mob

P.S. Would para the mob even if I didnt take physical hits which lends me to believe its hidden stat is "All Attacks occasionaly will Paralyze mob.

By the way picture is from me SOLOING a T worm, no help from the other 2 who were attacking another worm. weird....

btw, the van pendant is rare/ex and just keep wondering around la thiene till you see a fallen egg by a tree, if your lucky the nm will pop and youll kill it, pretty easy just might take some wondereing around a bit. I got it the first fight and guess its not too shabby for pld or a tank job, def3 pretty good , beats the wing pendant i guess,

I was on my way to Jueno and came upon the FallenEgg point at J-7 right under a tree. I didn't have a clue what it was for. I hopped off my chocobo and checked it. I obtained a Bird Egg and the NM Bird Nihniknoovi spawned. At the time I was my level 32 DRK/THF and hoping I wasn't screwed. Thankfully it was weak and missed almost every hit. After I killed it, it dropped the Van Pendant. Talk about lucky.

ok, i found one egg at the I-6/J-6 area, just told me there may be a nest above, continued my search, went to the L-7 area, found the egg again (approx. 20 minutes later) this time it gave me a Bird Egg, then imediatly after this it said "The nest Owner appears in a flurry of Rage!" was way to easy, as 57WHM/BLM, got drop of Van Pendant, i assume its a 100% drop rate
Edit: the item is a DEF: 3 lvl 14, one of the better items for neck Defense @ lvl 14 i've seen, havent really checked

I wonder..

If Mighty strikes gives 100% chance of criticals..

Could this lower it to 99% chance?

I'm a complete noob at this game, only been playing a month, and I just happened to get this by sheer accident.

In La Thiene, go to L-7, near the top of the square on the map (close to the L-6 boarder), and press tab until you find a Falled Egg by a tree. Go up to it and pick it up, and a bird will come out of the tree named Nihniknoovi and attack you. I'm lvl20 WAR/lvl10 MNK, and was able to beat it myself without much hassle. It drops the Van Pendant, and you don't get any EXP (first time I've fought anything that doesn't give EXP).

Hope this helps you guys ^_^

I have been looking for this, and i've now found the FallenEgg under 3 different trees.
One near the area mentioned, and two in the cluster of trees NW of this area.

I've "picked up" the egg four times now, and still haven't seen Nihniknoovi...
The first two times it gave me a message stating that i find a broken egg, and that maybe there is a nest in the tree above. Once i simply obtained a bird egg. The FallenEgg disappears once it is examined each time.

Further information about this would be appreciated, please.

Further research has revealed this...

Copied from ffxi.cannotlinkto:
"Chance of spawning from one of the FallenEgg that load at various spots in the zone. The FallenEgg have been seen at I-6/J-6, L-7, L-10, L-11. If one is selected and it does not spawn the NM, it can give just a message, or a Bird Egg. Either way, it will disappear and respawn elsewhere in 5 minutes."

I will have to test this further myeself. Enjoy ^^

So if this is -1% critical hit rate.. Could you in theory have 100 people wearing this, all fighting the same monster, thus completely eliminating its ability to land critical hits? Its possible to have more than 100 people fighting a mob, if its called for help on.

if you have 100 ppl fighing a mob, you really won't have to worry about they're crit hit rate, or anything else for that matter, cause they'll be dead
in about 3 seconds even Tiamat XD

Absolutely not. The -1% critical hit rate is for you only, so it has a 1% less chance of getting a critical hit on you.

If 100 other people wore this while fighting the same mob, then those 100 people would have a 1% less chance of being hit by a critical hit.

However, a Mobs critical hit % is only about 6% as it is... so if u can find all the gear (not sure what's out there) I guess u can potentially get the mobs crit rate on u down to 0

Safety Mantle
Warrior's Stone

They both have Opponent's Critical Hit Rate -2%

I use the Safety Mantle for my PLD and from what I can see, it appears to lower the enemies base critical hit rate (reducing their chance of Critical hit from say, 5% to 4%/3%) as opposed to reducing the times he/she will land a critical attack (The 1 or 2 out of 100 theory)

This is by no means proof and I agree further testing may be needed.

It's easy to say thats our "Beefy Ona" thats 1/100 hits that the mob or mobs will hit you. That you will be able to dodge, sounds pretty sweet.
