I obtained this last night. I was carrying my fresh blood around in my bazaar for 999999999 or w/e the max is just to show it...and one of my ls members checked me and told me what to do w/ the blood. Thank goodness he told me b/c i was about to throw it away really. I have nin13 so this katana will definitely come in handy.

Nice Katana to use at low level
This weapon is no better than the level 13 +1 katana.At level 16 the mokuto are a far better choice since you most likely will be killing worms,therefore the silence effect is usefull.The +1 agi is null an void since stats like these won't do squat against IT+ mobs.The +1 is also void unless you combine it with say +1 agi of meatkabob.Every stat needs to be in 2's to get any use out of it.2str=1 attk 2vit=1def im sure 2agi will be 1 eva or 1 raccy.Even so 1 tick on your stats wont make any difference in a fight.
Grab this for esthetics maybe, but its no big deal.

Actually the ones you speak of with the silence effect suck ; ; the silence kicks in every now and then more often then other weapons but it doesnt last but about 4-10 secs most of the time, im using two suzume's atm due to their low delay, but combined with my other gear this would actually be quite useful that extra +1 agi will even out my over all agi and make i taround +10 or so with food thus making that +1 agi useful, i guess it depends on the setup you use and what class you are as well. granted ill end up switching too duel wield Fukuro's once the time comes due to taru having gimp str/attk. anyways it can be a nice katana offhand depending on your setup imo. Though its so late now not sure if its worth going back picking up something i should have 6 or 7 lvls back ><

you think too short term. if everytime you saw a +1 you said bah no big deal, your character would suck. it is the sum of your stat boosts that matter not the boost each peice gets.

What he said. By that logic, a +4 strength ring is far better than a +5 strength ring because it'll be cheaper. Exactly. Remember that agility, like every other stat, doesn't only dictate say, evasion of r.acc. On a similar note, 1 def =/= 2 vit in terms of damage reduction. So to all you paladins out there with 2 phalanx rings and not a drop of vit on you: I hope you die painfully.
Got this last night on my way to the waterfall to do the CN map quest. Farming the blood took around 15 minutes, and finding the ??? in the Wadi took another 10.

my thf is only lvl 32, so i probably wouldn't be safe soloing the NM. so i got my 50 pld friedn to come with me. First we went to (J-6) and looked for the ???. it wasnt there, so then we went to (E-10) and it was there. so i traded the blood to the ??? and it spawned. a wadi leach linked but it was no prob. we killed it in like 7 seconds. i then got the gassan. very cool.

Honestly this is the best katana I think for a while but the problem is that it is Rare/Ex and you cant dual wield two of these.
At 21, I'm using this and a suzume (intending to upgrade to Hibari+1); honestly, the DPS on this isn't that great. The entire reason to have it is the agility bonus. Good til 28, when you can use a fukuro. Or two fukuro. Mmm, two fukuro.
camped this guy few days and got the drop, can't wait to use it with my nin.

Honestly, just wander around and look at all the places where leeches spawn. If you check the locations listed, leeches spawn in all of them. Just keep tabbing around for a ???. I found it at the first one I went to, so either I was really lucky, or more than one spawns at a time. It always spawns near leeches, though, so that they can link -- and leeches link like mad.

For anyone who was curious as to what this katana looks like, I have subbmited a Fashion shot....and I hope it works out for them. ><
On a smaller, more important note, the ??? spot that I found was at (E-9). I don't know where the other spawn points are, I didn't bother to check since I was ready to level with my new katana. ^^

Got this and I'm gonna use til 24 when I can dual Hibari+1. Definately worth the time farming the blood and popping the NM for this drop. Now if I can get Haty's drop ; ;

In my opinion, one of the best katanas until lv28 because after that you can equip Fukuro: (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=4896).
