Pure Luck! 1/1!!!

I had been camping both sea routes over and over and talk my 75 Samurai boyfriend into joining me. Fog and rain were on the ships, but I wasn't even getting the pirate pops. My LS then asked me if I had the pirate quest unlocked. LOL! What pirate quest? So, I go and unlock "Sand Charm," and board the ship for Selbina, and ride a couple more times.

In total, I have been camping these ships for about 4 hours, and then, after boarding the Selbina to Mhaura ship, I get the delayed black screen, like described in other posts. I walk outside on the deck, and its so foggy, I can barely see the water. The music stops abruptly, and next thing I see is the pirate ship coming towards us. Then I see the middle pirate is wearing a vermilion cloak! I look around and see Silverhook, just chillin on the deck. My boyfriend vokes him and we pull him up towards the 2nd deck of the ship to avoid links. My boyfriend starts wailing on him, Seigan, Hasso, Kasha, Gekko etc (all the cool stuff a 75 whm doesn't really understand, but really appreciates). I have to keep taking paralyze off because of the ice spikes. I try a Holy to try to be helpful, but it doesn't do more than 30 damage. His -aga's really hurt, taking both of us to orange. I panic because I don't want to lose to this guy, and Bene for good measure. The samurai beats him, and we get a bone chip and Seawolf Cudgel!!! LOL! 1/1!

.....5 days later, and no such luck with Sea robber....

I must be the luckiest whm. The Story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed.

Last year I got both Sea Robber and Seawolf in 3 hrs of camping. I could not believe it i was so excited just to see a pirate ship coming, and to have the NM pop and drop a club 1 time was just great. But to have pirates come on the return trip and have the NM drop the other club was priceless.

Trio'd this with 75whm(me), 75rdm Gapian, and 75war Toohotty

And i just got my Reverend Mail too, after 2 years of waiting for the right pt.
Whm DD here i come!
I cannot wait to try for this

It would be awesome if I can solo this, but if all else fails, I've got a 75 MNK friend that could tear this NM apart!

Really, if SH is in a bad mood and spams the Aga spells/TP moves, ur not gonna win , period. He can be a real ******* at times, once i was fighting him, he hit me with AgaIII which took out my SS, Hit me with a Crit, and then hell slash right after, so didnt even have time to Bene before he crushed me.

Luckly my last encouter with him, i got my Seawolf Cudgel (1/4), so i'll never have to see SH ever again. Gl to all who try to fight him, If ur Whm solo, I hope u've got Merits aswell as some really good solo gear , I.E Reverand / Optical hat / W. Turban / Aqua Rings / Scouters Rope / whatever else u think will help. BTW the Bat earrings trick works well if ur lackin other Eva gear or feel like u need more, and /37 Nin with Ni is a 100% must, no If ands or buts about it. Happy hunting

Just killed Silverhook... again... but this time got my Cudgel! This completes my set! i am 1/5 on Silverhook and 1/5 on Blackbeard now and still 0/12 on Sea Horror. I have no intention of ever camping this boat again EVER. First of all 1/5 might seem like a decent ratio on both but remember. Thats only when the NM spawns. I have gone hours and hours without a spawn. I have taken the boat so many time it is like a home. Here are a few hints on how i did it.

I camped as 75 SMN/WHM and as 75 SMN/BLM (for a few rides). when i needed both NM pirates i rode the boat back and forth for hours hoping for either NM to spawn. Once Blackbeard dropped i started setting HP in selbina and going /blm to warp back so i could still kill sea horror if it spawned. After one fight with silverhook as /blm and almost wiping duo to no way to cure myself i decided to just tele-dem and run back if no pirates were going to occur (did the long zone trick to see if pirates attacked). For a SMN to solo this i just used Ramuh and Chaotic Strike so that i could not only deal damage but also so i could get some time to run after i got within Bloodpact range without sucking up a waterga III. Every fight i had to save mp with astral flow or ask for help from others on boat cause i was out of mp. Overall i never wiped once. And now im planning on Getting my Reverend Mail and laying down some mad DD as WHM. Good luck to you all and plan on many days if not weeks of camping these clubs.

Firstly, don't even consider starting this unless you are prepared to go the distance. This could take you 100 hours or more (potentially a LOT more depending on competition) and it would be a waste if you gave up after 70 hours due to lack of results.

From beginning to end this took me a month of on/off play. I estimate in all I spent ~100-150 hours at this. By the time I finished I had died twice each to BB and SH and was 1/4 on Sea robber cudgel and 1/6 on Seawolf cudgel.

By the time I got the second club I was literally shaking as I was so relieved it was over. I so nearly died as well lol ....

I don't have that much to add to what has been said before but here are a few things I did in addition:

NB - This is all assuming you are a solo whm/nin. After all, what fool would want to accompany you on this voyage? ;p

1) Elemental resistance spells - Make sure you have Barparalzyra and Barwatera up at ALL times. Barparalyzra because the mobs are twice as hard if you have to keep casting Paralyna and they WILL successfully get Ice Spikes up at some point in the fight. Waterga III can one-shot you if it hits at the wrong time so make sure that Barwatera is macroed as it will wear before the end. The mobs cast other -aga spells (Blizzaga II, Thundaga II) but they are not so nasty and if you cast the corresponding bar spell you will overwrite one of the CRUCIAL two you already have cast.

2) Bar spell enhancements - I imagine you will be whm75 when you take on these bad boys although conceivably whm74 could do it with Utsesemi: Ni. However, if you have the luxury of throwing merits at the problem, get some bar spell merits under your belt. I had 2 and they made a significant difference.

3) Use a Blessed Briault - While Noble's tunic has the Refresh effect, the duration of this fight means you will not recover the amount of mp you get up front from the mp+7% of the Briault. Also, the Briault has higher def AND increased bar spell resistance (remember that nasty Waterga III? ;p). I know the Noble's has Cure+10% but I found i didn't need to cure myself much during the fight, AS LONG as I wasn't paralyzed and had Barwatera up!

4) Do NOT use a Blue Cape. This blasted thing has thunder resistance down and thundaga II therefore becomes lethal.

5) Macro the following plea: "Cure/Paralyna Yes Please". Don't be shy! There may be someone on board the ship who will help you for free and Paralyna is an absolute god send.

6) Macro "Flash" as it is the quickest spell you have if there is competition around.

7) A trick known to tanks but mages may not be aware. Equip all your mp+ equipment and cast your buffs. Then, once your mp pool has dropped below the point where removing the mp+ gear doesn't matter, equip your fighting gear (see below). In this way you have max mp when you start but are fully buffed up.

8) You "could" carry a Bat Earring with you so that when you get blinded (and you WILL get blinded) you can swap it in for the Eva bonus. I never did this but it occured to me afterwards it might have been useful.

9) Here is my equipment:

Main: Purgatory Mace (became Sea robber cudgel / Purgatory Mace once i got the first club)
Sub: Darksteel Maul +1
Ammo: Holy Phial
Head: Walahra Turban
Neck: Chivalrous Chain
L Earring: Merman's Earring
R Earring: Spike Earring
Body: Blessed Briault
Hands: Blessed Mitts
L Ring: Ruby Ring
R Ring: Ruby Ring
Back: Empowering Mantle
Waist: Life Belt
Legs: Blessed Trousers
Feet: Blessed Pumps

10) Here was my method for preparing for/fighting the mob:

a) Whilst waiting for the ship cast Reraise III, Protectra V (IV if not), Shellra V (IV if not), Rest to full mp (NB - do not rest with Errant Houppelande as your max mp is lower than that of the Briault and so you leave a gap at the top of your mp pool when you switch. Don't worry, you have enough time to recover more slowly)

b) Once I knew that pirates were coming (ie - screen goes blank before chat log appears; see Fatters guide) I:

a) Run to the deck asap
b) Kill any mobs to increase TP
c) Wait until the music stops and then :
d) Cast Utsesemi: Ni, Barparalyzra, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Barwatera, Haste (in that order to maximise their duration during the fight itself)
e) Swap all mp+ equipment that can be replaced with fighting gear
f) If the centre pirate with the V-cloak appears, the NM is coming! Eat a Meat Chiefkabob (I chose to do this here so I don't waste precious food on every non-appearance)
g) "Flash" pull the mob up to the top deck of the ferry
h) Cast the following spells on the mob: Slow, Dia II .... and that's it! Nothing else will stick for more than a couple of seconds and you will be getting smashed while you try to recast. If these spells wear, recast as they are highly effective.

Apologies for anything here that is teaching you to suck eggs. I thought I was a pretty good solo mage but these guys push you to the limit and it does get nervy near the end when you realise that this just.. might.. be.. the.. time!!

Good luck during the fight! You have prepared well my son.

Thank you very much for sharing your tricks! This is so valuable. One thing I have come across is, if you have an Optical Hat and a Walahra Turban, is I use the following Macro:

/nin "Utsusemi: Ni" <me>
/equip head "Walahra Turban"
/wait 3
/equip head "Optical Hat"

What this does is, provided you have blessed mitts, trousers and pumps and haste up, it will make Utsusemi: Ni recast time very low. I forget right now if it was 31seconds or 35seconds (brain fart moment), then getting the Ohat back on gives you the acc, eva +10 effect. It's wicked and works so well.

I was using slow and paralyze and they seem to have stuck consistently. Also I use a Jack-O-Lantern (purchased at hallowe'en it's 1k from the moogle. Next year create a mule and pack it with this food...sooo useful) which gives +10 acc and +10 eva. Also I found that a Martial wand in the main and dark steel maul in the off really helps since as soon as you hit 100% to it's like you are hitting at 200% tp.

at 50% Black Halo > Icarus Wing > Hexa Strike will reduce this sucker's hp significantly. It's up to you if you want to/have the mp to burst. I choose not to since this wastes valuable mp that can be used for that last CuveIV.

Cheers,
Sadok

Soloable as 75 WHM/NIN

a requirement in equipment would be a decent amount of Haste+ equipment to reduce recast times on Utsusemi. I had +18% Haste in equipment. With haste my Ichi recast is 20 seconds, and Ni recast is 30 seconds.

Currently 1/1 on Blackbeard and 0/4 on Silverhook on drops.

its pretty much a 50/50 chance of killing this. Either you kill it or you run out of time for not killing it fast enough. If you die during this battle then you will need more practice at tanking as WHM/NIN (trying solo'ing Sea Horror, thats a good start, if you can solo him easily then you have a chance on soloing Black Beard)

The best thing to do would be to get Reraise and Prot/Shell on before you board the boat to allow MP to be refreshed.

Build TP on any mob you can find on the boat(Phantom is really good), and get Stoneskin, Aquaviel, Barwatera(on Silverhook), Barblizzera(on Black Beard).

Just when Pirates about to pop, get Haste on.

90% of the time the NM starts off with casting Ice Spikes. If your quick and lucky enough you can interrupt him and it'll be relatively smooth sailing for awhile. Its important to cast slow, and make sure it always is on.

It is very hard to paralyze him as WHM, and he cant be silenced, so dont bother with these spells.

Fight the battle unlocked from the NM. So if the NM begins to cast Blizzardga/Waterga you can quickly run out of its casting range. If unsucessful these spells can do up to 800+ Damage, with barspell roughly 200-400, even tho you can take a direct hit like that, its important you avoid it as it wastes needed time rebuffing, and you end up losing the battle due to time running out.

Haste+ equipment and Haste is imperative, as this Enemy occasionally double attacks. If your shadows are down, your stoneskin will only last up to 3 hits max. If that happens Flash him (only lasts a few seconds) get shadows up and quickly re-stoneskin.

Its pretty much all luck seeing this thing pop. Ive seen this pop back to back. and other times, no pop for 16 and a half hours (this is including teleporting back and grabbing the next ship that lands in the same town(there are 2 ships)).

I personally dont use any Medicene or items and still can defeat this NM. If you have Black Halo and an Icarus Wing you should pretty much have no problem defeating this NM within the set time.

Using Black Halo + Hexa Strike makes MB Light followed by Holy.

You can take a big chunck out of his HP doing this. But Icarus Wings are relatively expensive and I prefer not to use it. BUT in saying that, you should bring an icarus wing with you anyway. The only time i'd use an Icarus Wing is towards the end of the fight, where i KNOW for a fact that it is going to die (you should be able to notice how well the fight is going when the NM is at 50% HP and the amount of MP you have left remaining). On average I used hardly any MP and had no real MP issues. (Getting hit by waterga drains ALOT of MP, rebuffing).

Good Luck.

Edit:

BOOM after 114 hours camping in 7 days and being 1/10 on Silverhook i finally got the club and the completion of the collection!

It takes a long *** time to see this thing pop, the worst thing is seeing competition come after you have been camping so long, and it pops almost instantly after. Most of the time you shouldnt have competition. Roughly id say about 10 of the 114 hours i was under pressure for claims, in saying that 2 popped, and I wasnt fast enough to claim.

There was soo many times i wanted to quit, but dont give up! If you keep at it you will get it! Do yourself a favour, buy a Nintendo DS and FFIII, play that while you camp, wont make it as bad :D

I am yet to see some sort of Window, or any time of time refresher for this NM to repop. Its a real *****. Pirates are damn rare, HQ pirates are even rarer.

Camped both Blackbeard and Silverhook last night for 5 hours straight. Killed Blackbeard, with no drop.

However, my deal is with Silverhook. Some Japanese Mithra, 75WHM/NIN named Catcat, was camping Silverhook. She had the cudgel already, but saw that I was camping it, and decided to be a total beeotch. S/he claimed Silverhook, got the drop, and tossed it (Rare/Ex, can't hold 2 of them).

Anyway, if you're on Gilgamesh, beware of this little psychopath. I'm starting to wonder if maybe s/he is one of those gilsellers who camp Rare/Ex items so people are forced to buy other objects off the Auction House. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but I can't imagine why someone would be so cruel as to kill a NM with a Rare/Ex drop that they ALREADY HAD. Catcat killed Silverhook with the Cudgel! Both the Mithra and the Skeleton had the same weapon equipped. It was worthy of ridicule, and I nearly cried when she said she got the drop. I begged for an invite, so I could lot the club, and she laughed at me, calling me insane.

Anyway, if anybody needs me, I'll be on the boat for the next month, trying to outclaim Catcat... Catcat kills my inner child...

I got this last week. Solo. :D

I'm surprised I've survived him everytime; I didn't realize how much tougher he is than Blackbeard until I read some info on ffxi.cannotlinkto.

I'm currently contending to have the most dastardly WHM/NIN gear on Gilgamesh. I'm not sure where I stand on the Japanese side.

I went with a friend to Camp this NM, on the first trip we did [BINGO] it popped, but no drop. I was hoping for a 100% rate drop and I didnt get it. O'well I guess now I have to get NIN to 37 and Solo it like Daleven did. Good Job ^^

You can either do what Daleven said or bring a mnk along (74mnk/37war, me) and duo it like nobodies business. My whm friend and i killed sea horror 3 times and this once in one day np. So long as the whm lets the mnk do his thing it should be np. On a side note i am not the normal monk... i have counter +7 and all sorts of cool **** so maybe a third person too.

Yay, it's me. ^^

I was lucky with the Seawolf Cudgel. 1/1 on Silverhook. I claimed as WHM72/NIN36 (No Utsusemi: Ni ; ;), decided I couldn't solo it and invited a THF75 and BLM75 to help, offering a reward. I managed to tank it and stay alive for the whole fight. Was happy to get a drop off the first kill, and gave the 2 people that helped 100K each. 200K isn't a bad price for this uber club, I don't think. Hehe.

Blackbeard sucked.. 1/5. I was WHM74/NIN37 every time I fought this one (Yay, Utsusemi: Ni ^^). Soloed him 3 times. One time a RDM75/NIN37 friend was with me, and we killed him real easily. Died once while soloing him, and a WHM75/THF37 claimed. I reraised and he invited me to help healing and said we could cast lots if the club dropped.. Though I would've helped either way. :p Had a couple close calls with him tanking, but we killed him. No drop. ; ; When I finally got my Sea Robber Cudgel, it was from one of my solo fights, which I was proud of.. These guys aren't easy. ^^;

Anyway, my advice.. If you want them bad, camp hard-core like I did. All I did for a week straight was camped the boat for Blackbeard. One time, I camped 11 hours straight with no spawn. ._. Bring a fishing rod. I got my fishing skill up to 16 while camping. x.X

If you have one club and just want the other one, there's no point in riding the boat back and fourth.. While camping Blackbeard, I just hopped on the boat in Mhaura, waited to see if pirates would attack, and if not, Teleport-Mea > run back to Mhaura. There are 2 boats that go back and fourth, so when one is going from Mhaura-Selby, the other is going from Selby-Mhaura.. Silverhook only spawns on the Selby-Mhaura ride and Blackbeard on Mhaura-Selby. If you camp like I did, you get double the odds of seeing the NM you want. If you're going to do this, it's good to know if the pirates are going to attack right when the boat zones.. Thank you Fatter for this info:

Quote:
You can tell this when you first zone in to the ship from Selbina/Mhaura... if the chat box appears BEFORE the ship, then yay! Pirates!

If the chat box and viewscreen appear at the exact same time, then there won't be pirates. I can confirm this is true, and after you notice it a couple times, it's real easy to see.

When fighting.. Barparalyzera is crucial. Ice Spikes will kick your *** if you don't use this. Also, it's good to have a paralyna macro ready. The scariest thing these NM's do is aga magic. Thundaga II. So remember to swap your blue cape for something else.. I forgot to do this once and it hurt. :o This spell will kill your shadows though, and you need to be quick to get them back up, and heal yourself. It's good to have Benediction ready, of course. If you bring an icarus wing, you can do Black Halo > Wing > Hexa Strike for a Light SC, and double-burst with Holy and Flash (Flash to help get shadows back up, since you've been neglecting them for a couple seconds). I only did this once, but it took off a good 30% of the NM's HP.

Good luck, fellow bad-*** WHM's. Bring some good solo skills with you because it will likely be difficult to find people that want to spend this much quality time with you. These clubs rule, and are totally worth the camp. ;p

Ok I soloed this today as 74 smn, it gave 50 exp, which prior to the exp patch would indicate it was level 72, but now it means it's probably 70 or 71, at least when it popped today it was.

I don't know if another job other than smn could solo it, not likely, it was a very rough fight.

I think a 75 WHM/NIN would own it, 10% Melee bonus vs. bones and the %Haste. Also the fact bones mobs actually don't do that greater damage vs. WHM as well. Then the fact blood saber only absobs 0HP (does damage) if the entire thing is taken out on Stone Skin...

RDM/NIN probably would also be able to take it down.

Once i have nin to 37 ill be camping these clubs, i dont want to be pulling my LS in there now and takeing away from the whms who can actually use them with /nin.

Oh and if you did want to lose the accuracy by useing the other club in offhand you could always get a new Bellicose Mantle for +6attack , i love mine.

Some info I found out kinda makes this club and the Sea Robber look even better together was that on a WS forum the info stated that 20% of the WHM's MND AND 20% of the STR is used as a modifier for Hexastrike. So, together they increase both sides of the modifier.

This is very true, and a very good idea. The soul purpose of my stating to dual weild this club with Kraken as Whm/nin is for the tp, as Hexa Strike and other club weapon skills can hit hard on mobs^ ^ However, very few of us can afford the Kraken, and the Sea Robber Cudgel is absolutely a good replacement for it. That also leaves the neck slot open for better gear as well^ ^

I totally agree with Masamuneseoul that it's nice SE is putting this stuff in. I once saw a 75WHM/35NIN tearing apart those goobbues at the top of Boyhoda Tree, stuff like this club would certainly make it even better for those whms in need of more melee support.

I once tanked Steelshell Crabs there as well without Utsusemi using bloody bolts as a thief. The crabs conned as VT and I hardly ever needed healing. After awhile, a whm came and no matter what I did, I could not keep hate, even though I could hold hate away from every job in the skill-up party, whms really have some potential when they use stoneskin, blink, and powerful healing magics.

Maybe my story will inspire whms out there to shed the opinion of weakness and not be afraid to take a few hits in an experience party setting. Who wants to die after a few hits anyways? Experiment because when a mob says Even Match, it really IS Even Match, I can solo melee Very Tough as a thief, so therefore any job should be able to take an Even Match, if you can't, you're not living up to your potential.
Oh wow

They're making whitemages able to melee lol. A whitemage subbing ninja for dual wield, using this, Kraken club, and the new whitemage hauby would definately be able to wreak havic lmao. The - Attack, although a defasite, can be made up for with a 2k Tiger sole, and this also grants +5 STR and 15 accuracy^ ^! I would'nt doubt to see alot of white mages trying to get this soon, good luck to everyone who is^ ^
