Ok, this is the purpose of this. Imagine for a second a DRK using this with /SAM, Souleater, Bloodweapon, Soul Voice marchx2, haste, hasso, and desperate blows...if you are TP burning a single mob like Kirin, this is the next best thing to a Kraken Club for DRK to use for that...even better than Ridill because of Hasso/desperate blows would be active with it since it's a 2-handed weapon.

Granted it's not useful in most situations, but think for a moment people. How many other situations do you actually use DRK in anyways besides an extra stun.

j/k...don't beat me all you emo DRKs out there. lol

3 hits from this scythe, all with capped STR and a 2.4 PDIF (highest noncritical value you can obtain), does 244 damage.

1 hit from a Suzaku's Scythe (88 base damage), under the same conditions, does 252 damage.

The delay of those two scythes is the same.

33% of the time you will swing once, 33% of the time you will swing twice, 33% of the time you will swing 3 times. This averages out to 2 hits per attack round, which effectively doubles your TP gain and the amount of TP you feed a mob.

You'll WS twice as fast for 1/3 the damage and you gimp your DoT.

This Weapon sicks ***.

You forgot about souleater bloodweapon. Kclub got **** based damage and feed the mob insane tp. Why do we use? to zerg with souleater. No one is going to use this for situation like merit. Team up with /sam and haste build you get to swing 53 times in 30 sec with 19% haste from gear. If you are rich to get speed belt and dusk glove +1 you get to swing 70 times in 30 sec. Kclub will do about 81 hits but this is the closest thing to it.

This scythe is best for bst solo. All bst needs is tp to finish off mobs and this is perfect for that!

as a lvl75 weapon i dont see what good this weapon would be for skilling up. if someone is that far behind in scythe skill at lvl75 they need to get a clue. one thing i can say about this scythe is that even though the base dmg is low, 2-3 attacks will still put out as much dmg as a single attack from say an orichalcum scythe. this seems usefull for DRK's who still like to /THF in merit partys.

This scythe is just ******* amazing... who cares if the base dmg is lower than your average scythe... attacking 2-3 times within 1 attack turn comes to way more dmg than your normal swings... Most likely, a person with THIS scythe would be able to pull out about 3 ws's in the time it takes for a normal scythe to pull off one... Considering you gain about 14.something% TP a swing... it wouldn't really matter what the base damage is because you become one of the DoT's...

Most people are completely discrediting the weapon, but I think it makes a really viable alternative to the infamous 'kraken drk' and maybe even a little better.

Equip homam, with brutal earring, speed belt, anything haste +, chivalrous chain, anything TP bonus you can find, and this little puppy and you ahve a good SE + BW, or good SE + WS spam combo (provided you survive) with the new sam update, it'd be even better. Just a thought, don't discredit it so quickly. Not to mention they may have future updates planned to make weapons like these more useable... just don't get all your panties in a wad ;p
How to obtain
# Sep 13 2006 at 3:17 PM Rating: Good
From what I understand, this scyth is a possible reward/drop from the quest Hail of the Wyrmking. The quest is also nicknamed Bahamut #2 in which you fight Bahamut a 2nd time along with 4 of his Wyrm friends (i.e. Tiamat, Nidhogg, etc).

I haven't been able to 100% locate how to start the quest; however, I know you have to do the following:

- Complete CoP and all cutscenes
- Defeat the first BCNM Battle against Bahamut (can't remember the quest name)
- Wait until after conquest is tallied

After that I'm not certain what else needs to happen. Supposedly this BCNM also drops Bahamut's Staff, Dragon Staff, Bahamut's pants, and Bahamut's Mask. I 99% certain it allows 18 people to enter as well.

As far as the DMG, if this has the same proc. rate of a Merc. Knife or sword, would is still be that bad? TP gain would be insane; however, I have to agree that the WS damage would be considerably low.

This is the worst piece of sh*t I've ever seen during my tenure in this game. Its a slap in the face from SE to dark knights. This goes right up there with our JSE as being ridiculously hard to get but only being marginally useful.

Wait....calling it marginally useful is giving it way too much credit.

utter crap are you talking abou this scythe or your own gear. I can't belive you have the audasity to say something is crap with your gear. Spend some gil and get something that not every freaking DRK in this game has.

Yes, the damage is low, but so are all the multihit weapons. (except ridil, but that thing is so damn broken)

However with this weapon, you can join the rampage spam parties and spam guillotine.

Now instead of BRD, RDM, 4 x WAR or BST, any of those 4 could be WAR, BST, or DRK.

A little bit much just to get a merit party, but hell, so is even getting a merit party as anything but NIN, WAR, MNK, or refresher.

The standard meaning of "occasionally attacks X to Y times" is that it only occasionally DOESN'T attack that many times.

Being able to WS every 3-4 swings would be damn nice, I'd think. And since you're getting what, 14 tp a swing? It won't give the enemy so much tp as say, the mercurial dagger or kraken club would give the enemy, with their lower tp gain per swing.

um... no, mob gains the exact amount of tp when you hit them as you gain, that's why you can get so much subtle blow (yes, i know it doesn't happen that way when they hit us, but that's the game, the mobs are buffer than us >.>)
RE: merits
# May 13 2006 at 5:08 AM Rating: Decent
He's talking about the ratio between something with lower delay hitting more, for weaker, and giving same amount of TP to mob, to what you get.
In this case, a club or sword won't give you much, but a high delay weapon will, and the mob only still gains 2-3% TP or something like that.
When speaking of TP, more delay = better.
RE: merits
# Aug 27 2006 at 12:13 AM Rating: Decent
Mobs get 2 additional TP to what you gain when you hit them, and get 7 tp per time they hit you, it has been tested many times by bsts, and if you search you can find the results. stop ******** ppl out just because you think you know something they didn't...like i just did....beetches.

What in hell gave you the idea that at 75 your str and attack will make up for having 24 base dmg? No in hell it wont. Are you saying you'll hit for anywhere near as much as you would with a normal dmg scyth for 75-i.e 90+ dmg? Don't make me laugh. Attack only serves to 1. break through the mob's defense and 2. raise AVERAGE dmg done, though you have a LIMIT as to how much dmg you can DO based on weapon dmg and str after that. Str only serves to raise maximum dmg done IF you have sufficient attack-and that takes MASSIVE amounts to make that much difference. It WONT make up for 70+ base weapon dmg. Sorry.

For skillup. Not for great dmg. Or if you're going for the sc and not the dmg.

I believe this scythe was created to build TP quickly and to WS often. You will be more of a DoT (like MNK) instead of a DD as DRK are used to. I think if you can WS more often, and do uber damage with WS you will eventually do more damage than using the conventional weapons.

IF you had DRK/THF, it would be best if you had a great dmg based wep.

At level 75, your overall STR and atk will make up the difference of this items base DMG. This looks excellent for DRK's, and looks like it will keep them in the skillchains on a constant basis.

Most of these weapons that have 2/3 occasional hits are best used for skillup parties.
damage?

I hope that damage is incorrect, 24 dmg = (Too Weak), other then that, the occasional 2/3 attacks is good.......if it kicks in often.

Pretty much all weapons that occasionally hit extra have nerfed damage. With that said I do find it kind of unusual that this would have worse damage than the GKT that does the same.
