Mine had 5 charges but is there any way to get it recharged other than droping it and redoing the quest, maybe any storage NPC's that would take this belt?
ok what people are saying, that what they say marks who you send is BS... If Militant Gale is the guard then you send Miledo, if Gentle Tiger is the guard send luto... ive been trying this quest for the last 2 hours and have been getting very pissed cause everyones instructions have been saying the same thing and i kept getting caught untill i figured this out. It does seem true however that when the lead guard is unaccompanied by the taru-taru then the clever thing you say is random so dont listen to people who say pick "waiting for a friend" because you have to take a qild guess 50% chance of getting it right.

OK, to make something clear: you must activate 8 switches (using some more than once). I got the belt on the 2nd try because on the first try I didn't understand that I would use the 3 actual switches more than once.
Other than that the other posts that tell what answers to give worked just fine for me. Also, the Taru friar mentioned swapping something out of the Lucky Charm, but I had it all they way through the end. FWIW I only had the Main Guard + Taru friar in 2 of my switch scenes so maybe at 3 or 4 he does in fact take it.

The Skarsbrakenal Quest? Yeah, you talk to that guy with that thing at the place. He's standing next to that chick.
I did this quest, and about the third tim I realized why the lucky charm wouldn't work after so long. If you watch carefully, that taru in the scenes after you use it starts talking about it. After the third use (Maybe 4, I forget) after the CS with him, in the chat log it says he swaps something in the charm or something of that nature. After that, I'm pretty sure the charm isn't that useful and you're probably better off saying something smart. Not sure though, I never had to pick the last option because I finished it before it was used all up and I realized this.
Well, on my fourth attempt now. This quest is bs. The clues are wrong. For instance, one clue 3,4,5 are the same, and 3, 7, 8 are med. Should be 2,7,8....figured that out. But cant get around the lead guard.
Just another SE attempt to make the game a time sink. One more try, if I don't get it, Then I'm not attempting it again.
The Goddess Temple is on the ground floor of Bastok Metalworks, between the elevators. You'll see a narrow hall leading down. It's not so much a 'temple' but more of a small shrine.
not sure, best thing to do is talk ao all people in bastok, open as many quests as you can complete 10-20 and you should have enought fame, or just fish rusty buckets, and trade them to the man next to bastok AH, for fame, sorry can't remember his name.
After reading this thread yesterday at work I came home and tried it. Got up to the 3rd deactivation and the second time I came up on the lead gaurdsman and used the "Lucky Charm"...I squeezed it tightly and nothing happend and the taru was caught. So I would guess the "Lucky Charm" is not 100%. Just a heads up...

I just did this quest. It took about 10-15 min to complete. Perim's posts are correct and I followed them as best I could to get the belt. However, I would like to add that you will likely need to have the Chameleon Capers NPC quest completed to acquire this quest, because it involves Miledo(Taru from Chameleon Capers).
you do not need to have Chameleon Capers open for this quest. I have done this quest for the past 5 Conquest Tallys and I only opened and completed Chameleon Capers last night.
As for the Fame requirement I dont know. My current Bastok fame is around lvl6 but I would expect lvl 3/4 fame to open this quest if not lvl1.
As for the location of the ??? it is in the Goddess temple which is the small room between the 2 elevators in Bastok Metalworks.

I did this last night, however the order that I got for the swiches was incorrect, The Galka in the eatery told me that third swich was both the largest and medium and no one told me what the second swich was, I eventually figured it out and there was a mistake where as I got the information for the third swich twice so one was the second swich. Got my belt no problem after that.
Quest: Bait and Switch Location: Bastok Metal works Starting NPC: Salim Rewards: Key Ring Belt: “THF 20, Def: 2 Steal+1 Dex+1 '5/5 charges Skeleton Key'”, various smaller items. Repeatable?: Yes, after Conquest Tally on Sundays

Information: Talk to Salim on the 2nd floor of the Bastok Metal Works, he will tell you to shoo away a friar in the Goddess Temple on 1st floor. Examine the ??? to get a cut-scene Luto will appear and reveal that the friar is a friend in disguise. Salim is taking bribes from a merchant and Luto (being a good upstanding citizen) wants to rob him for all he's got ^^. The ??? is a trap placed on the stash, during the CS you are asked to help, select yes. After that you will be offered a choice of items to help you with the guards that are places at the switches (guards appear in a CS by examining the switches)

Items you can select from Miledo: Scope - detect plain clothes guards. Bard's Harp - recall someone's past in song. Lead Guardsmen ID - Identifies you as Lead Guardsman Lucky Charm - Handy in a pinch. Snares - place them and see what happens (haven’t used yet) Pocket Watch - (haven’t used yet) ??? - You're not ready for this yet (the ??? isn’t a typo it's called that)(haven’t used yet) (theory: use the 6 other items to be able to use this)

NPCs that reveal switch order: Helmut (outside Black Smiths guild) Darha (Outside Black Smith's Guild) Hungry Wolf (Eatery) Folzen (gives a little info, Outside Black Smith's Guild) The switch order changes each time you do the quest and the number of switches differs with the item chosen. The switches will not reset if you get caught but they will reset if you flick the wrong switch, causing you to start the sequence again. The switches are located at: Medium - near the entrance zone to the Metal works Small - Inside the Cermet Refinery, under some shelves Large - By the Black Smith's Guild near “Dark Clouds”

Some clues given are "Hardest to find: Small" and "Hardest to activate: Large" Also should you get caught (after 3rd capture you have to start over by talking to Salim) to free the caught member of the group talk Ferghus in the Eatery. Then talk to the boy Galka called Folzen, he will say he found the cell key but Salim scares him... the member not captured will automatically release the caught member. If the Key Ring Belt is what you’re after then choose the lucky charm to receive it. Choosing the Lucky Charm will also cause the Lead Guardsman to appear. Using the Lucky Charm on the Lead Guardsman will cause him to leave.

If you don’t want to solve the problem yourself then send Luto or Miledo to do the job. If the guard is bored and wants to go for “a drink or two…or three” then send Miledo to get rid of the guard.

If the guard is saying he wants to catch a thief send Luto to lure him away. I am very sorry for the multiple posts but i wasnt allowed to do this in 1 post

Can you recharge this item? Also, are the stats Dex+1 and Steal+1 active the entire time or only when you use a charge?
thanks ^^ Pure

Orz my god, ok i went to talk to the fat guy, i got a SC, but NO quest? wtf? please help me out! is there a certain amount of fame i need?i have enough fame for titans fork and the scroll quest so i DONT c whats rong ; ;
I'm just glad that they have it for use only as a thf lol. I would hate to see someone trying to use their belt as another job only to find out that they have to have thf as main. Also, to help success rate (this is rumored) INT helps out alot. Hence the reason why THF af add INT. Also if your thinking of taking thf to at least 60 to the af gear save this belt. You can solo your coffers as a thf/whm or /rdm and just pick them. Thats what I did, but I just used regular thf tools but I hear Skeleton Keys have a little bit of a better success rate.

A skeleton key is used to open chests/coffers instead of getting the actual key for it. Sometimes it will be a trap though, so be prepared whenever you use it.

SPOILER! If you want to figure it out on your own, don't read this trash. This is pretty well a full walkthrough of it.
*** This is obtained from the bait and switch quest in Bastok MetalWorks. Talk to the Fat NPC on the second level, just near the elevator. It will start a quest in which you get to pick from a number of items (Choose Lucky Charm to get the belt) and then you have to go hit 3 different switches a certain number of times and in the right order. The number of times and the order can be found by talking to various NPCs in the metalworks (the kid galka, the old man, the guy near the old man, and the galka in the restaurant/cafateria thingy). The three switches are 1. the big kiln 2. the bookcase in the cermet refinery 3. the map of bastok right when you enter the metalworks. When you try and press a switch it will bring up a CS and a guard tries to stop you. If the guard was talking about the thief, let the mithra handle it, if the guard wants to go have a pint, let the taru handle it. When the boss guard decides to intervene, you'll have to figure that one yourself (hint: make sure to look at all your options). Go back to the place where you met the pair of thieves and claim your reward! ***
Main: Drix Cerberus THF46, DNC35, WAR25, MNK21, RNG6 I'm a gay Galka looking for a Galka mate. Note: all attacks on my being gay will be ignored so don't waste your time.
I've done this quest once before but only got a Silent Oil from it. When I was looking for NPC's for the Sentinal Badge quest in Bastok, I got it again. So yes, it is repeatable.
I saw a 50ish thief with this the other day, but she wouldn't tell me where she got it. All I got out of her was '[secret].' As if it won't soon be common knowledge anyway.
