I am rehashing parts of various good AF guides I have read on the net in order to clear up some of the confusion and give some added details to you, my fellow thieves. Let me know how you like it. I just finished the Rogue's Poulaines section since I did the actual quest this morning. Check it out.

Edit: Removed link due to the Alla/IGE merger, May 2006.

Famke,

If the rest of your AF site contains the same amount of quality and detail as the one part you have completed, I think it will be an asset all THFs will use when their time comes for Artifact Armor Quests. Good work! (^^)v

- Go to Windhurst and talk with Nanna Mihgo. She will explain that you must first find a pair of thieves.

- Go to Lower Jeuno to the balcony at G-10 and find Yatniel. He asks for 4 Quake Grenades. These cannot be found on any mobs, they are an alchemy synth, so you must buy them from the Jueno AH (8,000~ gil each on Midgardsormr 5/18/04). Trade the grenades to Yatniel and he tells you that the first letter is "O".

- Go to Mhaura, up some stairs to the inn at H-8. Find an old man in the first room named Hagain and speak with him. He asks you for a Lump of Chandelier Coal and gives you a key item, Bomb Incense.

- Thieves are well-advised to do all these prepatory steps on their own as soon as possible. Then, if you are presented with an opportunity to go fight the NM someday, you are ready to go and won't delay the alliance!

Suggestions:
It sounded like you have to do things in this order... but you dont. You can do the mhaura part and then do jeuno if you want.'

I was in mhaura and walked around talking with NPC, then this man gave me this bomb scent thing. I didnt knew it was the THF AF quest... :)

Great site! Hate to be picky but in your vest section you mention attaining the vest the same way as armlets, simply opening the coffer. I know you meant culotte but I was just letting you know incase you are picky about it :) Other than that the site is very well done and I look forward to more (*`_`)

One more nitpick >< I am doing the bonnet quest right now since I really never thought it was worthy of getting until I realised I needed it for my boots :( In the guide you leave out having to roll the dice with goblin in muckvix's junk shop in lower jeuno. Is this part not essential?

Bring on the nitpicks. I tried to make these as good as possible and have proofed them a bit you already you all have come back with good error catches and improvements. Great work.

I changed the armlets typo and added info about the alternate steal spot for the quedev stew, but I'm not sure about the dice roll one. I listed that you must roll with sniggix and he tells you about the dangruf wadi gobs. I listed this in the prep stuff. I think that's what you are referring to as missing?

Great guide!!! :)

I did the Castle Zvahl Baileys coffer this past weekend and it was every bit as tense as you described! Unfortunately I did not find your guide until today; the guide I was using had the drop-down points shown but it did not explain the different levels, etc, and how you got to the middle area. I checked the four corner rooms first :( The good thing about the middle area is that the first time you check it, you will know if any of the 4 coffers are there as all the spots can be seen at once. The lowest drop-down landing puts you into a hallway with high walls so once you get to the middle, you can only reach the coffer if it is at the end of that particular hallway. If you drop down to the middle landing, you will be on the flat "top" of the walls and once you get to the middle, you can drop down into either of the two hallways that border the area you are standing on.

Man those are some nasty looking demons down there!!!
/em panics

I had 2 skeleton keys with me, both of them failed as several arhimans spotted me and attacked while I picked. The second thief tool worked and I got the vest, then I used my Warp scroll and managed to warp my dead body back to Lower Jeuno where I lay by the hp drawing curious stares until a kind whm passing by did a raise II on me... =)

I'll try to do one of them tonight, likely the culotte unless you'd prefer the gloves first.

I also added some clarification about the use of Deodorize. Basically those mobs will never detect you based on scent, but as far as I understand they will not be fooled by Hide because they can smell you. You need to be smell-free first and then using Hide will ditch them.

Cluotte first please :) I will do it very soon, (as soon as I hit 56 and Im 55 now).

The scent thing...

In the room with an altar, in monaric cavern (gloves), there was something that detected me even I had borth sneak and invis on. Was it scent? (or is he just detect everything no matter what).

Something that needs to be confirmed;

Ive tried this, and it worked, but it may be because he dont want to hit me anymore.

I used invis, steal and mug from a IT orc. Fleed away, used hide and deodorize, and he never found me again. (was it because the deo, or did he just gave up?)

Vest guide;
And btw, why dont you list the coffer key holders too ? This happend today, I was killing ahrimans in a PT to get skillups, and suddenly a cofferkey dropped, me and a PLD loted for it. I got it. And the next ahriman dropped another cofferkey (lucky? or TH2 rules?) he got it.

And 10-15 mins later, a coffer spawned right infront of us with a ahriman. So we pulled the ahriman, and I walked to the coffer and opened it. (got the vest at lvl 55, so I have to wait another 3 lvl to wear it).

Famke this is an excellent guide, good work.

Theres a few things you should add about the lever doors in Castle Oztroja.

At the first lever door stand right in-between the 2 levers and hit one of them and then quickly run away from the door. If you end up picking the wrong lever you can avoid falling down the trap door this way.

For the second door (the one with 4 levers). If you go to I-10 on the map you come to what looks like a dead-end. There is a hidden door here, you will be able to see the outline of the door. Inside this room you'll see 4 levers showing you the current combination for the door.

For the door at the top of Castle Oztroja, you dont not have to have started or completed any part of genkai 3. I did it as a lvl 55THF and was able to open the door without a problem. Just drop invis, light the torch, and then use Flee and Hide and you'll make it through.

Been trying to steal the stew for AF1 for like 3 hours now.
Have they changed this, or is it simply impossible to steal
it at lvl36?

Can it be really stolen before the quest is started?

Do I need to weaken the mob 1st, or wait for it to
start its special move, or steal from behind with
sneak on, or what???

edit:
got help from a friendly DRK, and I got the item with
1st try... seems it's important to steal from behind :)

Famke can I ask you to redo the layout? it's difficult
to print this out now.

I had to use Mozilla which knew how to shrink to fit...
IE and Opera had trouble fitting the text in.

As most of us will print this out 'cause you can't
browse the web at the same time as you're online,
making it more printer friendly would be great.

Sincerely,

Scalor the steal tips and tricks are moslty rumor, but perhaps they are true. Some say steal from behind, some say while the mob casts a spell, some say behind while a mob casts a spell. Perhaps I will add some more techniques for stealing to the dagger section but since it is a topic of such dispute I wasn't sure what to do.

EDIT: I added a blurb about the best time to steal.

Hmm as for the layout I tried to make it as simple to print as possible. I will try to print it on my mac and see how it messes up.

EDIT: I changed all the sections so the body text is no longer bulleted. Perhaps this was causing the print error and hopefully it will flow now on those other browsers. If you want to check that would be great.

Thanks jersey.

The hands section is being made now, hopefully its done soon its just a LONG one and ive been busy.

Thanks again, take care.

Hi Famke, I studied your source and I think the reason it's
difficult to print this out, is because you've used set widths
instead of percentages.

I once made a printer friendly invoice and found out that 700px
is the perfect width to use, if you're not willing to use
percentages.

Your layout is using tables set to 800px wide, and that extra
100 pixels is what is causing the trouble with printouts.

And about stealing the stew... I was unsuccesfull for maybe
20 times before I got help from a lvl47 DRK, who hit the Silver
Guadav till it was weak and I got behind it. Voi'la, one stew
ready for the quest :)

Done and done.

Good work on the legs! Getting all 6 done feels good and you are almost there, now let the saving for Peacock Charm and Scorpion Harness begin!;;;;;;

Thanks for completing the whole set, Famke.

Can you add a mention on the AF2 that you need to be lvl50
before you can go and get this quest from Nanaa. I was there
a little too early. :)

BTW I didn't have any problems getting the stew...stole it on my 3rd attempt. But maybe becuase I was around lvl 48-49 when I got it....

Thanks Famke
Good luck all!

kk... Questions!! lol...

Currently about to hit 50 (hoping sometime this week) and I am happily looking forward to going to get my next piece of AF.

So I was looking at the guide that's posted for the armlets and in the prep work it states that you have to have done AF 1-1 ( check!! ) and that you need to have started the AF 1-3 quest... is this true?? Do you get the Bonnet before the Armlets and just can't wear it till you hit 54? <Help me out!>

Other than that, AWESOME guide!! Bookmarked the site and we'll be hitting it frequently in the near future!! ^^

You just need to trigger the bonnet quest, then you can go ahead with the armlets quest. I suppose you could get the bonnet before the armlets, but this isn't required. Just head to Windy and talk with the mithra to unlock the bonnet quest and then you are set to trigger the armlets.

Ok I'm a lvl 55 THF now i've put off my AF2 hat for while fearing I'll have the evil tower thru garlaige.
It turns out it is my tower when i tried today...
so my question is can i do the dangruf part first and do sauromugue when i have time later?
Also if anyone knows a spot in sauromugue that is glitched so i can run up the wall to the last tower please tell me, finding people who want to run to the third banishing gate is going to hard, let alone how bad i'll feel if people die for a stupid reason.

I thought about what would happen if you tried to do wadi before you killed climbpix. The gob in the shop tells you about wadi before you kill climbpix so it is certainly possible, but I have no answer for you. If you tried this and discovered an answer it would be cool so I could add the info to the guide. Good luck.

As for a glitched part of Sauro I am not aware of that either.
