Summary

Advertise Baren-Moren's latest creation by chatting with the local inhabitants of Windurst Waters. He'll pay you according to the number of townsfolk you speak to. But, you are not to leave Windurst Waters before completing the task.

Walkthrough

Baren-Moren wants you to walk around town showing off the New Model Hat he has for sale. Accept the offer and then go around and talk to the following NPCs:

It is very important that you not leave Windurst Waters before you finish the quest.

When you have talked to them all, talk to Bondada at the hat shop. When you have talked to everyone you need to, Bondada will change what she previously said and agrees to buy a hat. You can then end the quest with the full payout and a Windshear Hat.

The more people you talk to, the greater your pay will be in the end, to a max of 300 gil if you talk to everyone.

Quest Series

This quest is part of a series of quests offered by Baren-Moren. See the list below to find out which quest comes next.

Quest is bugged

I just ran to all of the NPCs TWICE and convinced Bondada to buy the hat...STILL only recieved 120gil...It's pointless to even try!

EDIT: It took me showing the hat to 43 NPCs (including the 7 listed and Bondada) before I finally got the hat...Still only recieved 150gil though.

If you make it here before you try and fail the quest, you need to talk to all the NPC's listed. They will say something unique to the hat. If you complete this, you will receive 50 gil.

However, you can talk to any NPC in Windurst Waters; and you will show off the hat. This will increase the amount of gil you receive. You will also receive the Windshear Hat if you talk to enough people in Windurst Waters.

Keep in mind, you will have to reshow the hat to everyone again if you (1) logout, (2) travel to another zone outside Windurst Waters, or (3) travel to your residence. You can leave the Windurst Waters area if you would like; but do it before you show the hat. I believe there is no time limit to this quest; however, it is not repeatable anymore.

Hope this helps!

Disconnected, didn't restart.

I had talked to two of the eight people, not counting numerous other npcs, and I was disconnected. I went back to the second one I talked to and he acted like I already showed him the hat.

In the end, after talking to 15+ normal npcs and the 8 required, I was awarded 150 gil and the windshear hat.

Maybe I was lucky, but the disconnection didn't hurt me.
Woo, 50 gil! -_-

talk to these ppl in this order (it seemed faster to me this way):

1. Kenapa-Keppa (J-9) Rhinostery
2. Honoi-Gomoi (E-7) Southern Windurst Waters Map go to stairs in the back
3. Clais (G-10) @ Bridge near Timbre Timbers Tavern and Rarab's Tail
4. Kyume-Romeh (F-10) Inside Timbre Timbers Tavern
5. Tosuka-Porika (G-8) Opistery
6. Machitata (L-11) Residential Area a.k.a. Mog House Entrance (the taru-taru guard)
7. Pechiru-Mashiru (L-6) Aurastery
8. Bondada (H-7) The Hat Shop where you started (must talk to her last)

As before DO NOT zone OR log out! you will reset everything if you do. i recommend that you talk to the people that are on the way to each of the 8 that are listed above. talking to just them and a handful isnt enough. in other words... talk to EVERYONE including the cardians. that way you dont have to kill yourself doing it all over again. hope this helps.
do not log >.>

Update!
# Jul 31 2007 at 7:37 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all! Just an update, I traveled to San'dOrian to complete a mission, so I picked up a few quests along the way. It seems as this quest requires you to "show off" the hat to the NPC's (talk to all the NPC's). There are a few particular NPC's that will comment on the hat. Once you feel confident that you are spoken with enough characters go back and claim your prize, but make sure you do not zone, otherwise it resets the number of NPC's you "showed" the hat off to.

Very, very frustrating. I must have talked to every single NPC in Windurst Waters, opened the door to the hat shop... then remembered those "Toraimurai Canal Gate" buildings the in-game map shows as being in two clusters just west of the adjacent tunnel. Except that the adjacent tunnel instead takes you straight to Port Windurst. Came back to zero reward.

this quest was probebly one of the stupidest things ive ever done... especialy when i did the 8 main ppl first cuz i didnt read rest i saw that it said i had to talk alot to get hat. so i looked at Atles and devised a route. i walk from the shop west and then north. go then through those houses thendo the same in the south part walk over to rynostery then head north(talk to everyone on the way). went over to inbetween the two hotels and spoke to every one. then over to culinarians. and then up to the opistery then over to the aurastery then down to MH and bk.. took me 45 min for 200g and the hat which i guess is good for lvl 4. i like my hairpin btter though.

I was PISSED OFF! Guess that means i love the game..:)

I'm not sure about Fame level but I did this quest at low fame, at least 2, but there are some things you must know how to finish this. You can not zone anywhere, not even your Mog House. From what I heard at least 15-20+ NPCs that are not listed is how many you must talk to. However I did get 150 gil and the hat.

This was the most hellish quest yet. I had it forever. After you talk to the eight people, and i talked to the three outside the hat shop too since the mention hats.. then a zillion other people around waters without zoning... I came in, talked to Bondata, and she said something that wasn't about buying the hat; and when I talked to Baren he asked me if i wanted to 'hang up my hat' i said NO. Went out talked to more people without zoning, then went back talked to bondata again, she bought the hat and this time when i asked Baren in the hat shop he didn't ask me if i wanted to 'hang up my hat' he said 'yes, done' (meaning, i presumed that i'd talked to enough people, and i tenatively said YES, DONE and i got 150 gil and the stupid hat.

OMG i'm glad i'm done that damn quest. What a pain in the ***. I guess that's why it's called a quest.

Might seem like a newb question, it probably is, but I'd rather get an answer than a lame remark about how newbish the question is.

Q: If I talk to more people for this quest, will I get more fame.

That's it. That's my question.
If anyone knows, please share with me...us.
If no one knows, keep your snide remarks to yourself.
Thank you.

I am a totally Newbie played for 2 hours last night pretty much goofing off. When I took on the Hat quest I talked to everyone. I know I missed one of the 8 guys but I did get the 300 gil.
can i repeat it?
# Aug 25 2004 at 2:45 AM Rating: Decent
I messed up the first time too and the quest he gave me was the bird feathers after that. Even after completing it twice i cant get him to give me the 1st "repeatable" quest again. Someone said you can wait a while and get it but ive tried a couple times. Now i just decline the giant bird feather quest. Anyone know specifically how i can take the 1st quest again?
fuck this quest
# Jul 10 2004 at 2:19 PM Rating: Decent
i'm sooo mad, i spent like an hour (real life) talking to all the people in waters (not really every single person, but lots and lots and lots), got all the required ones except for Machitata. I wasn't totally paying attention while i was on my way over there and *accidently* ran right into my mog house, which apperently resets the whole thing, b/c when i went to go turn my hat in, i got absolutely nothing. and really even if i did, it's not like it would've really worth it.

don't bother with this quest unless you really, *really* want the windshear hat (i don't know why you would).
RE: fuck this quest
# Aug 30 2004 at 5:59 PM Rating: Decent
I'll have to agree (except for the potty mouth). I went into my mog house, and so got nothing but a scolding from Baren-Moren. I couldn't get the quest again, either, even after zoning. Instead, he gave me the subsequent quest ("A Feather in One's Cap").
