Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

haha i made it Lv30 War with no oils or powders. i had them sitting in my MH but i forgot to take em out and i couldnt be bothered getting them. Anyway, i made it all the way to the norg zone and died there, where a smn passed along and raised me (thank you Zilos^^). Then zoned into norg, and i'm writing this as i heal right now.

see, It was misleading in the order this is written, because I went straight to korroloka tunnel after talking to Kagetora, and didn't talk to Ensetsu a second time.

i was a 30 war/mnk and i was being helped by a 75 pld/rdm and we had no troubles at all. we handled the NM's easily i barely got hurt. besides us getting lost a few times it was a smooth and quick mission.

Actually at that point, depending on what you are fighting, the voker can be used simply to setup the thf or thfs to SATA(TATATATATA etc...) onto you, at which point a pld can hold hate quite nicely w/o voke (again depending on the fight). Also very handy when the pld is higher lvl then the ppl they are with, they have no troubles again (farming and uncapped mission fights).

This is not a recommended setup for an Exp party (though I could imagine w/ a stactic it would work nicely... Pickup pts would just blow though).

Eh...lvl 32 war with help of a lvl 43 rdm...we didn't have much trouble Sneak does wonders at this point...the main thing is not getting lost, and not loosing sneak in the middle of 2 gigants..and 3 jellys...because that didn't go too well...i had to zone at the end of tunnel...

outcome...Get help if you're under lvl 40
So much text for such a weak fight
# May 15 2006 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent
The best thing you can do for this fight is get a lvl 50+ blm or RDM to come with you, and just cast GA spells pull all the hate, and then he just messes them all up, im lvl 70 ninja on mah server, i normaly help out with it, pretty fast, i sub blm with fight and GA them and just knock em all out....
lmao

ok if you click the ??? and nothing happens try again in a few minutes (nothing= someone has killed them recently) leaches are a timer based mob

Ok to start with I'm a Whm and I'm sick and Tierd of people thinking Whm aint good for anything but cureing in a Pt (haste and other buffs to) I solo alot with my Whm. I did this quest with my Whm being it is my highest Job. I have 5 other Jobs over lvl 20+ and I am a Whm by heart. I love keeping you tanks alive. When I started out this quest I was gonna do it on my own and some of my link shell members my beloved (devilutionariers) wantted to come along just to be there for me. I started to solo the leaches and was doing ok health gets a little low when you got 3 good mobs hitting you but I was OK. Well my Brother thought I was in trouble (becuase he was afk and wasnt waching the whole time) and started to help. The leaches died fast. Anyway I am a lvl 51whm/25blm and I even got my AF weapon soloing the shadow, Whm can be just as effective as any other lvl 51 job if not better and I feel if you can't solo a D/C with your Whm you should learn how because you'r not useing the skills you got to the best of your abiltys..

I'm going to hopefully try to solo this this weekend when I ding in at 40 WHM. With a Holy Breastplate on, access to Sleep with a BLM sub, and using the NPC to run interference, I'm pretty confident that it should go well.

Then again, what do I know? I haven't even tried and died yet. /laugh

Alright, a few things to say, though suffice to say it wasn't a solo.

I couldn't try it at 40 exactly, as I went from 39-41 in the same party session, so this was an attempt with 41 as the highest level in the party.

My job was 41WHM/20BLM, using a Holy Maul as my weapon, Holy Breastplate as the armor, and my other gear as +DEF and +Evasion, rather than the standard +MP and +MND stuff that people wear. I was going to try it solo, but decided to take my girlfriend along as she needed the quest done, too (30RDM/15WHM).

Standard start. We cleared the leeches in front to prevent links, buffed up and rested to fill up our MP. (Buffs used were Protect/Shell II, Aquaveil, Blink, Stoneskin, Blaze Spikes, and I used Haste just that once.)

I popped them, stood back, and pulled the one on the far right. The middle one linked, but the third one didn't come. I hit Elemental Seal and Sleep on the second one, then set in meleeing the first while renewing Stoneskin when needed. At about 60-70% I remembered to call out my NPC (level 30), as well as I noticed that my companion wasn't attacking (she was pretty tired, probably spaced out for a minute).

I only had to renew the sleep on the second one once before the first went down. I sleeped it again, then put up stoneskin and rested. It would wake up from time to time and hit me, I'd wait until it got through Stoneskin before standing and sleeping it again, recasting stoneskin, and then resting for more MP.

When I got enough to suit my cautious side (300 or so) I rebuffed and attacked it. When it got down to 25% or so it used a TP attack that owned my NPC, though she wasn't really necessary at that point, anyways.

After we killed the second, we found that the third had despawned. Walked up and took the coral.

So, did this with a pretty good margin of safety with a 41WHM/20BLM, a 30RDM/15WHM, and a level 30 NPC companion. Didn't have to 2Hr, never came close to death, didn't run dry on MP, no food, and I took pretty much all of the damage in the fight.

Thanks to Eithos of Odin server for keeping the two pop thread leeches off of my back. Keep on rockin'.
Thanks to Ryl of Odin server for synthing my armor earlier today. That DEF really helped.

Edit: About their level, these things did NOT give me EXP as a level 41. |Too Weak| Though the thread leeches we killed to clear the area conned as Easy Prey. These are lower level than the Thread Leeches.

Should not have been as worried as I was

Well I read the posts and decided I'd give it a whirl thinking I may need to bring a friend along as a 69BLM. I asked in my LS and they laughed. So I headed out, cleared the 2 leeches, put up blink and stoneskin. Popped them, hit sleepga, firaga III took about 870 from each (put them about 20%), sleepga II right away, and aeroga III to finish the job without even dropping stoneskin.

On an idiot note: read carefully you must go back to the guy in bastok before going to norg, I immediately warped back to jueno and went to norg, i was said to discover i had missed a step =(. I'd say any blm with sleepga, and sleepga II (to make it easier) and any tier II or III -ga should have little to no problem with this.

Didn't think I'd be able to do it, especially after reading several of the posts here about people being level 50+, etc., but I got tired of waiting for people to help me with this quest, so I decided to try it solo... and won!

Here's my set up--I was a 45 red mage with white mage sub. I made sure to kill the few leeches that were around the area first to make sure I wouldn't get any aggro. Then, I used a pumpkin pie for extra mp, cast refresh, regen, stoneskip, phalanx, aquaveil, as well as ice-spikes, and enblizzard. Protect II and Shell II were already on, so didn't need to recast. Then I kneeled a bit to get back mp and called out my NPC (which you CAN do in this area now).

I did not waste any time casting any offensive spells, instead just hacked and slashed. First one went down pretty quick, but I had trouble finding sleep on my spell list (doh!) so I had trouble casting cure on NPC... eventually though I did find, cast sleep on the remaining leech, and for safety used 2hr Chainspell, healed up myself and NPC, recast stoneskin, and killed the second. Third was still asleep, and by that point it was an easy victory. Did not even have to use Convert, had mostly full hp and 100 mp left to boot.
After that, I felt very cool :-)
Completed ^_^

Yup, so i did this today after the update but before the maitenence... ya was lots of fun myself and a lvl 52thf/nin did this which it wasnt too bad.. my hp did get below half but i was able to drain it back to close to full. So if you have the help of a lvl 50ish person you should be able to take them with no problem... my only problem is getting from norg back >_<

i tried soloing at lvl 50 PLD the first leach went alright thats where i had to use my mana the most tho by the time the second leach was dead i had used all my mana and defender and berserk and only had 150 health left. I saved my WS and 2 hour for the last 1 but for some reason my TP was drained and my 2 hour had a 30minute wait left and thats when i died so im trying again...

Killed them today with 6 people. 31thf/mnk, 32drk/war, 31rdm/blm, 31blm/whm, 31 war/mnk, 30 war/mnk. 3 of us died in the process but we did kill them. It was brutal but possible.

To those who want to try this solo as a level 35 or so I would say that it would be tough.

I made it to the spawn point fine with the aid of some sneak oils. As I tried to clear the leeches around the spawn point I ran into some trouble when two of them linked. I had to use the two x-poitions and two houred to make it out alive (15 hp left).

As I was resting some high level players looking for a slime spawn point and they helped me kill the three leeches at the spawn point. I then led them to the slime's spawn point because I had it marked on my map.

The trip to Norg was made easy by using sneak oils and I now have to go level ninja.

Good luck to those who want to try this before level 40 as you more than likly will need some kind of a party.

Easy as a 42 BST/WHM
Kill the 3 leeches nearby, call CourierCarrie, sneak up. Examine the ??? and pop the leeches. Have the pet fight one and then heel it back away from the other leeches. Let the crab fight for a bit and then fight alongside and kill it. Repeat until the leeches despawn or they're dead. Examine the ??? afterwards and you're done!

Duo'd this with my NPC (level 31, attacker, sword, tarutaru) as a 34 RDM/bkm. Won't lie - this was hard, and without stoneskin/phalanx I woulda been cooked. I cleared out the threadies first, then fired up standard defensive spells (Stoneskin, Phalanx, Blink, Pro 2, Shell, Blaze Spikes, and Enthunder), rested to 95% MP, and cast sneak. after I popped them, I knocked back my Au Lait and Melon juice, ES-Slept the one on the right, and hit him with blind, paralyze, slow, gravity, hit myself with barwater, and hit him with Dia 2.
He hits like a truck at low levels. Even with Bio on him (cast at 50% of his HP) and phalanx on me he was tagging me for 20-40 HP a hit. Acid Mist was hitting for 70-80 with barwater up, and it hit my NPC for 120.

Also, as a warning to the other mages out there, if you sleep him and Disengage to heal, the NM's all depop. ><
Too damn long

I finished this some time ago it took a while though I was escorted by a lvl 75 ninja/red mage and lvl 35 red mage/ ninja. It was easy enough at first i got aggroed by a couple giants when we got to the ??? I died instantly and delvled to lvl 29 with 100 tnl but it wasnt a big deal since luckily I could still finish the quest my party added a lvl 32 BLM to it and the 75 ninja had to get him and then change his job to red mage to raise me then after we got out of the cave he left and going to Norg was a huge pain then 35 red mage died but i think he had reraise on him i casted sneak on me and BLM to get past the skeletons once we were in norg we got the job but we didnt have instant tele so we just got our lvl 1 jobs and eath teleported then i happily played with my ninja then got bored now it is retired. THE END
