Summary

Ensetsu wishes to reclaim an item he has sold to the Tenshodo, but they will not exchange it for anything other than a Strangely Shaped Coral (key item) from the Korroloka Tunnel. You must go and retrieve it for him.

Walkthrough

Talk to Kaede at (J-5) in Port Bastok to begin this quest. After the cutscene, go talk to Kagetora in Warehouse 2, then talk to Ensetsu, who will ask you for a favor.

Make your way to the Korroloka Tunnel. If you're level 30+ (maybe less, but my group and I were at least 30) you shouldn't have to worry about too many aggro mobs. Mobs of interest that should be noted are jellies, bogies, and jammer leeches.

  • Follow the path until you can go left and straight. Turn left at (K-8).
  • Follow the path until you come out the other side, proceed left.
  • When you reach the bridge at (G-9), turn right and cross to the other side.
  • Proceed left. When you reach the junction point between going right and left (D-8), go right.
  • Follow the path, it will go outside, and back in to another tunnel. Continue to follow it until you can go left or right (H-8). Go left.
  • There is usually a lone jelly at this point a party of 3 or more with 1 healer shouldn't worry about it hurting you too much.
  • Continue straight and enter the cave on your left (F-9).
  • Continue to follow the path. DO NOT cross the bridge, simply continue along the right wall.
  • Continue to follow the path until you can go straight or right (H-11). Go right.
  • After this point, you may need to be very careful of Bogies, keep a look out and be ready for them. Invis/Sneak/Deodorize and you can get by.
  • Keep going straight and you'll cross another bridge.
  • When you can go left or right (H-8), go right.
  • Follow that path and at the end of (I-7) turn right again. Bogy warning, one can be waiting for you, maybe 2. They have a large aggro/link range. Proceed with caution.
  • Follow that path, you may or may not see several Bogy. Whether you spell up and run by or fight them, it is your choice.
  • At the end of the path, turn left and go straight to the ??? point.
DO NOT CLICK THE ??? until your group is prepared to fight 3 Korroloka Leeches.

After the leeches are killed, quickly click on the ??? point to get a key item: Strangely Shaped Coral. Head back to Bastok and talk to Ensetsu again. He will send you to Norg. It is recommended that you set your home point to Bastok to make things easy.

If you have never been to Norg before, take the airship to Kazham. Rent a chocobo and head down to the south end of the zone. Fall down one of the holes and head behind a waterfall at (E-11). This is the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have Sneak up and hug the right wall until you reach a Stone Door. This will eventually lead you to Norg.

Talk to Ryoma, who is standing near the docks. He will give you a key item: Sealed Dagger. Return to Ensetsu one more time for a cutscene. You will then be able to change jobs to a Ninja.

Battle Details

  • Kill any Thread Leeches near the ??? point, as when the 3 leeches spawn they will link.
  • Should the person that touched the ??? point die, and group members happen to escape unharmed and without aggro. DO NOT RAISE the fallen member unless the Korroloka Leeches are killed. After the timed-event has passed and they vanish, the instant the person who originally touched the ??? point is raised, they will re-appear and more death will result.

Well I was able to solo all three leeches without any additional potions but I did have to use benidiction to finish off the last leech. It was fun!!!! Now it's off to Norg to get my NIN flag done.

Hurray!!!

56 SAM/WAR took 'em down easily. Berserked halfway through and lost about 600 HP altogether. They hit me for 20-30 per hit, but they went down fairly easily.

Assuming that the original poster wanted to do this solo

I doubt that you would have a NIN as a sub... since you are trying to get the NIN job ^^
not bad

Just did this fight for a lvl 30 THF. Built 300 TP and then 155 got drained before the fight, so i killed 1 more Leech and had 211 TP. Killed the first leech and got to 277 TP. Used Souleater + Last Resort + Vorpal Blade on the 2nd for 927 DMG.. took 100% of its life away. 3rd went down in a few hits. Did this as a BRD68/DRK34

Okay, as a 46rdm/23blm.. this was CAKE

Thanks to the guide and Vamar this was literally as easy as Rng quest.

Sneak up, follow directions, kill the jokes of leeches (Aeroga, Yes please!) buffed.. sneaked up, popped, ran back, Thunder pulled 1.. slept it, debuffed it and made sure all buffs were up.. drew my sword and ravaged it. Checked the ??? as other two were already gone.. got coral. <3

OK, I did this last night. Called Courier Carrie, cleared the leeches in the area. Then used Sneak, triggered the ??? point, and used Carrie to Sneakpull them one at a time. Finished them off, didn't take any damage at all, and Carrie was close to full health at the end.

A sneaky approach here worked really well - fighting all three leeches together would have been much more difficult.

Just solo'ed this at 63 BLM/31WHM no problem. Great directions, Put up Stoneskin/Blink, spawned leeches, ES sleepga, Fire 3 then stone 3 killed the first two, last one woke up and drained my mp down to 58, manafont then flare (a bit excessive but he made me agry stealing all that mp) :)
Hmm...

I attempted this quest as a 43DRK with a 30SAM friend. When we got to the ???, there were a few people (higher levels) leaving the area because they just did this part of the quest. I used silent oil and touched the ??? and it gave me a message along the lines of "There is nothing out of the ordinary here." This leads me to believe that SE either fixed this or, I was wondering, there may be a certain amount of time between possible spawns. Regardless, we cam unprepared, thinking it was going to be much easier; we ended up dying and coming back with a 55 RDM that made it very easy. Can anyone verify whether or not SE fixed this quest?

I just did this solo as a 41 THF/ 20 PLD (subbed PLD over RNG, because I thought the extra 20 HP might make a difference).

I came prepared, bought a couple of X-Potions and a Meat Chiefkabob. Got to the ???, used a Silent Oil and summoned the Leeches.

I targeted the one on the far right and pulled it with Banish. The fight itself wasn't too bad, I used both X-Potions and used Perfect Dodge towards the end.

Before I killed it, the other two Leeches de-spawned, so as I went to inspect the ??? again, I expected all three to reappear. Lo and behold, I got the strangely shaped coral instead!

Wasn't too bad, and this confirms that the quest hasn't been changed in any way; killing just one of the three Leeches still rewards you with the coral.

Thanks for the tip. I just did this last night[43Redmage/21Blackmage], and thou l died 5 feet from Norg[grr bad Sneak], the Leeches were a breeze thanks to your tip.
With Sneak on[plus like 10 buffs lol]and the normal leeches dead, l summoned the three. Put one to sleep, another attack. By the time it was dead, other woke up. Killed it with like half my hits and magic left. By this time the third had despawned, activated the ??? and got the coral:). Now back to Norg again:(

Just thought I'd add my 2 gil.

If you are helping someone, and they are spawning the mobs, be sure that you have some way of holding those leeches' hate. I soloed this last night for a LS mate, and totally pwned them as 43DRG/21WHM...didn't need any items at all, and had about 50% MP after the fight. The only thing that drew a lot of MP was healing the 30 WAR who spawned the leeches. Overall an easy fight.

So remember to grab hate early and keep it if you're helping someone, other than that completely weak.
Thank you

First, let me say thank you for the details as to how to get through Korroloka. Very good directions.
I solo'd this last night as a 48rdm/24blm easily.

A tip that I gathered somewhere in these posts, was to try to cast sneak on myself, then click on the ???.
I did this and did NOT get aggro.
I was able to step back, and pull 1 leech.
Be aware though, that if you go back near the ??? to pull a 2nd leech, that you'll have to re-cast/re-apply sneak or the remaining leeches will aggro... notice I said near the ???, even if you're not close to the leeches.
If anyone needs help with this, hit me up on Alexander...

Ninja Quest : Simple but a little LONG.
# Sep 10 2005 at 10:19 PM Rating: Decent
Facts: This is probably one of the easiest advanced jobs to unlock. All's you have to do is follow the precise guide as given above, and you'll be fine!!!

You can solo this at level 45. I am a level 40 monk, and was not up for soloing it. I also do not think I'd be able to. 1/3 leeches got me into yellow HP. They are easy though!

This quest is easy, but a little time consuming. - Only because of the travelling to Norg part.

Overall though, you should have no problem. If you have to, just get a level 45 or so to help you fight the 3 NM leeches.

Everything else you can do all by yourself just fine.

P.S. Bring oils and foshiznit in Sea Serpent Grotto or you *will* get killed!

No where near as easy as bst or rng, I'd even say drk and smn are easier though much more time consuming... but yes it is very easy for a higher level job... around 45 or so.
Easier than I thought..

I solo'ed this as a SAM53/THF25. (Yes, underlevelled sub, I know.. working on it ;))

I was lucky to ran into a mage who was doing the NIN quest before me, and he gave me Protect III and Shell II. Built up some TP in advance by killing the Thread Leeches in the area and using Meditate a few times. Clicked the ??? when there was 30 seconds left on my Meditate counter, used Tachi: Jinpu and then 2-houred, giving me three more WS. A few extra hits and they were gone. ^^ I had 50% HP after the fight.

Piece of cake! ^^

Please, for the love of god, sub Warrior. /Thf gives you nothing, damage-wise, compared to double attack and berserk.

Sub Thief if you need to close light with Kasha. Or, ofcourse, when fighting HNM and you need to give the tanks some hate (TA+Kasha on Tiamat with PLD/NIN comes to mind)

Lvl 45 RDM, can I solo it?
# Sep 02 2005 at 5:29 AM Rating: Decent
I've got a Lvl 45RDM/22BLM and I'm wondering if I could handle this quest alone. According to some of the other posts I've read it is possible to complete this by casting sneak before touching the ??? and then isolating one leech and pulling it away from the others to take it alone. About what lvl mob are the leechs individually and how hard would it be to keep them from linking? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I use my 69 Drk Galka to PL my 30 Rdm Mithra (PC and PS2). My Drk soloed them for kicks while my 30 Rdm sat back and watched. My Drk is unlocking every advanced job for the Mithra while she's at 30 just cause he can. Life is good.

Just so you know and so you dont end up dying in the Grotto, you need Sneak before you get to the door, then once you go through the door sneak AND invisible. (The Crabs aggro to sight, and don't flame me, I learned this 'the hard way.')
RE: Also;
# Aug 23 2005 at 1:53 PM Rating: Default
Crabs don't sight aggro, it just heard you through sneak. It's rare, but it happens. Sneak and Invis are not 100% fool proof. It's only 99% complete. Very rarely will something detect you through these enchantments, but it does happen.

Just for Clarification, there isn't a Crab in the game...that aggro's to sight, NM's included. Check HERE
for a list if needed. I just ran through and grabbed Ninja, Tonko and Utsusemi quests, no sight aggro.

This is one of the best quest I have ever done. It was very fun not to mention I loved the story line. My WHM friend helped me do this a few days ago and I am loving NIN.

First of all what you need to do in order to do this quest is be lvl 30. I know this is obvious but im covering everything. You may need some fame i'm not sure since I already had level 6 Bastok fame. The beginning is easy. Talk to the daughter then run to warehouse 2 and talk to the man in the blue armor. After speaking to him run over to the house you where in earlier and go in the left room and speak to Ensetsu. Once speaking to him you will recieve the quest. Now that you have the quest head to Korroloka Tunnel and have a map, without one you will probably get lost.

Once at the leeches call them out battle and then check the ??? again. You will now recieve some coral. Now is when it is handy to have someone who knows escape. Return the coral to Ensetsu who gave you this quest. He says go and give it to Ryoma in Norg. I advise having your homepoint as Jeuno for this. Now you a scroll of instant warp or if your a BLM warp back to jeuno do whatever to get back. Hop over to Kazham and choco down to Norg.

Its advised to have someone help you through sea serpent grotto but all you have to do is hug the right wall and run like theres no tommorow. Once in Norg speak to Ryoma who is on the right side of the dock. Speak to him and return to Bastok. I had a WHM with me so he gave me a dem.

Once in Bastok and return the item to Ensetsu. Theres a cutscene that I personally liked. Once it is over you have the ability to become a NIN.

I hope you liked this guide for obtaining NIN. I'm loving it...although as of now it is only lvl 4...if any of you are on Midgardsormr and want any help give me a /tell. My name is Tomba.
Quest May Have Changed..
# Jul 31 2005 at 12:03 AM Rating: Decent
Might I ask how you enabled the quest?

I went to ensetsu and he tells me to go to his daughter Ayame.

I went to the Presidents office where he said his daughter was, I can't enter it, "only high ranking bastoken adventurers or officers may enter"

I tried talking to the Ayame in the Cannon Area Behind the office. No go.

EDIT: all right! I got the quest, It seems It hasn't changed at all.

Ensetsu -> Kaede (other room of his house) TO
kagetoru (warehouse #2) -> Ensetsu

YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPEAK TO AYAME! Ayame is just the npc in the northen most cannonry behind the presidents office. No quest acceleration from talking to her.

So the quest is the same, update hasn't changed how you get it. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Changed de-spawn rules?

I'm not sure, but I believe this quest may have changed since the update. I have killed one of the leeches, and let the other two de-spawn, but it won't give me the coral. I definitely have done everything right. :/

Has anyone else had this problem recently?
