Summary

A strange voice from within Carbuncle's Ruby is asking you to gather the seven colors of light...

Walkthrough

Go out and fight leeches, they will drop a Carbuncle's Ruby, which is a very rare drop. Once you have the stone item, go to Windurst Walls and click on the door in the House of the Hero to talk to Ajido-Marujido. You will be told to experience all 7 weather elements. To do this, visit various zones until you have seen each type of weather pattern in the world (you will be shown a cutscene of the stone changing color). NOTE: You cannot acquire weather effects in towns or dungeons, nor can you obtain them from a Scholar casting the weather effect on you.

  • Red - heat - Valkurm, Rolanberry, Altepa, Yhoator Jungle, Meriphatud Mountains.
  • Orange - clear skies - most places
  • Yellow - sand - Valkurm, Tahrongi, Konschtat.
  • Green - wind - Tahrongi, Mhaura, La Theine.
  • Indigo - ice - Xarcabard, Beaucedine etc.
  • Blue - rain - La Theine, Pashhow, Rolanberry, Buburimu, Yhoator Jungle, boat rides
  • Violet - thunder - Konschtat, Jugner, boat rides

You will know you got the pattern by zoning and seeing a cut scene. If you don't get a cut scene, you didn't get the pattern. You don't have to be near the weather, just in the same zone as it.

Once you have all 7 patterns, go to La Thiene Plateau and find the stone circle at G-6. Trade the stone to ??? and you will get flagged to be able to change jobs to Summoner.

From personal experience and stuff I've heard from friends in ls, buburimu peninsula is the place to be for Carbuncle's Ruby. I went with a lv 70SMN friend (Hollie <3) and got on about the 7th drop. A lot of friends from ls say that they got their drops on close to this number too^^

I went through all the weather elements except Ice, which is killing me! Isn't there an easier way to do this at all besides getting a high level. 30RDM/15blm

I got my stone pretty quickly in Buburimu. I tried Qufim but I didn't have any luck for ages, so I gave up :P

In terms of Elements, I still need to get my Wind one. I got all but one elements in one night. Sand, Clear and Water pretty much straight away. Fire I got from Altepa, and Ice I got from Beaudecine Glacier. Easy enough places to get to with sneak and invis. Just waiting on my Wind now! I'll farm in Tahrongi for a while.

You shouldn't need fame for this quest O.o

Avoid Tavnazia for this quest. I arrived right in the middle of a thunderstorm and the Ruby wouldn't activate for me. Looks like none of the Promathia areas can be used for this quest.

Hey, Im sure a LOT of people wont believe me but it took me only 2 1/2 hours to finish this quest. I went out to Burumbimu Penninsula and asked a high level person to help me get the Carbuncles Ruby. Fisrt leech, no drop. Second leech, Carbuncles Ruby!! Hurray!! I went to Windy and got the quest. I warped back to Jeuno and asked for a Tele-Dem. On the way to dem I got first color, green(wind). I got on a chocobo and went to Pashow. Got violet(thunder). Went back to Konschtat and got yellow(sand)! Two in a row! A member of my linkshell informed me that there was a heatstorm in Valkrum. I rode my chocobo there and got red(heat). Rode over to La Theine and got orange(clear). I thought what I had left and I was amazed when I saw I only had two left! And it had only been an hour and 15 minutes after I started my quest. The person who was walking me through the process took me to Beaucedine and I got indigo(ice). I only had rain left but I was tired and wanted to log off. The whm helping me took me to Tele-Holla and I was just about to log when it began to rain. I hastily bought a chocobo and went to Junger Foreset to zone and came back and got blue(rain). I went over to the stone circle and became a summoner!!!

*Edit: The person who was helping me GET the ruby had TH1 or TH2 but they were on anonymous so im not sure*

Something like 150-200 leech kills, most of them with a TH2 friend, finally got one.

One of my friends got it on the second leech.

Sometimes, it's just not fair. :P

:( I tried helping a mate get this drop, we were in buburinu for 6 hrs, me as 30thf and him 35rdm. No drop, rdm disbands and he gets it first kill after that.

Then i thought let's try Valkurm, got bored after an hour, still no drop.

Started using bloody bolts so i dont have to rest ever, and in the last 2 months I been to Pashow, Jugner, even Qufim, and Valkurm and Buburinu 3 or 4 times each.... one kill after an other, still no drop.

Thats with TH1 as well... I must be nerfed - estimated 400+ kills

Took me about 3 hours in Bubu to get my Ruby, with the help of a Red Mage, lvl 62, named Raynor. Thanks a lot, if you read this.

In terms of the weathers, I took a one way trip to Valkurm from Windy. Got 4 of the elements I need on the way. Just gotta get Fire, Thunder, and Ice now. ^^ Almost there. :D
The Heat is bringing me down!
# May 20 2005 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
I have all the weather except for Heat (Fire) I was amazed at how easy I got Ice though. I just ran through the pass to the glacier with sneak, deodorizer, and invisible on. I used the map on here for the pass since I have not done the quest to get it yet. Now if I can just get Fire! The dunes aren't being nice so I'm heading to Meraph. Mount. and Tahrongi Canyon to see if I can get it there. Wish me luck!
yay for me
# May 17 2005 at 3:46 PM Rating: Decent

"I'd laugh if I got this on the first leech without tryi-... OMG!!!"

^^ now I have motivation to go get smn finally and have all available jobs.

Today I tried to get my ruby and start the quest. Little did I know that the ruby would take me 5 HOURS!!! I killed over 200 of the things. Luckly I had almost all day to play but man was it a relief to get it.
Also, whats the big deal about finding the weather element fire? I see it EVERYTIME I'm in Yhoator Jungle. Some people are hangin around the Dunes for days going "when is this dang element going to show" just spend 300gil (at most) and run over to Yhoator Jungle. Its hot (or raining) almost every game day there. My point- spend 300gil that any one would lone to you, or spend all day searching for it.

I'm disappointed that no one talk about the way we know that we have to bring a Carbuncle's Ruby to the House of Hero. I'll find out which NPC wants me to that before doing the SMN's quest. I'm the kind of guy that wants to know the question before anwsering... I'm thekind of guy who want to know the origine of thing... I will feel guilty of becoming a SMN without knowing that particular thing.

N.B.: If my english sound wrong (grammar and snytax) that's because I'm not one! ^^.

Most people used to EXP off leeches, and would end up getting the ruby before they even knew what it was for. The fact is the game makes it so that getting the ruby is the quest starter. There's no reason to feel bad about gettig the ruby first. That's how the quest is meant to be.
I'm sorry

Well with my just returning to FFXI I decided to undertake polishing off the last of my Advance Job flags. Worked with 2 others and got 3 rubies in about 1.5 hours. Sorry to all those who had or are still having trouble.

RE: heat
# May 12 2005 at 2:24 PM Rating: Decent
I got it today lol.
You have to wait for firesday before the weather condition changes to heat in Valkrun Dunes.
You will know when it is firesday if the little icon beside your clock on the left changes to red.
relax
# May 09 2005 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent
Let me just suggest this...instead of running around like a doofuss trying to get you weather (like fire). just do other thingts..and if ya happen to see the weather ya missisng , zone out then zone back in ... thats what i did while waiting for my party in rabao..i just zoned out when i saw the fire icon apear and i got my weather ^^

so good luck to all you future Sumoners

I wonder if my Galkasgona be worth being a smn...

My result in Buburimu Peninsula, DRK41/WAR20, (no Treasure Hunter)

1st - Vial of Fiend Blood
2nd - Carbuncle's Ruby

Don't ask me how I did that, other than sheer luck.
