Summary

A strange voice from within Carbuncle's Ruby is asking you to gather the seven colors of light...

Walkthrough

Go out and fight leeches, they will drop a Carbuncle's Ruby, which is a very rare drop. Once you have the stone item, go to Windurst Walls and click on the door in the House of the Hero to talk to Ajido-Marujido. You will be told to experience all 7 weather elements. To do this, visit various zones until you have seen each type of weather pattern in the world (you will be shown a cutscene of the stone changing color). NOTE: You cannot acquire weather effects in towns or dungeons, nor can you obtain them from a Scholar casting the weather effect on you.

  • Red - heat - Valkurm, Rolanberry, Altepa, Yhoator Jungle, Meriphatud Mountains.
  • Orange - clear skies - most places
  • Yellow - sand - Valkurm, Tahrongi, Konschtat.
  • Green - wind - Tahrongi, Mhaura, La Theine.
  • Indigo - ice - Xarcabard, Beaucedine etc.
  • Blue - rain - La Theine, Pashhow, Rolanberry, Buburimu, Yhoator Jungle, boat rides
  • Violet - thunder - Konschtat, Jugner, boat rides

You will know you got the pattern by zoning and seeing a cut scene. If you don't get a cut scene, you didn't get the pattern. You don't have to be near the weather, just in the same zone as it.

Once you have all 7 patterns, go to La Thiene Plateau and find the stone circle at G-6. Trade the stone to ??? and you will get flagged to be able to change jobs to Summoner.

just finished getting all the different weathers. i didnt bother much to go out of my way except to the Glacier to get them. got lucky whlie camping VE with a heat wave. off to La Theine to get finish up. and i got a free air spirit scroll from some guy lol.

kingjt -
you need to get the ruby first. and its a really rare drop, from what i hear not using magic to finish it off helps out a bit more for r/e drops, but i think that might be speculation. good luck.

I was in Buburi-whatever omw to the song runes for the bard quest and I was Thf60/Blm20 >>> for warp. And I decided to kill a leech or two so I could build enough tp to energy drain a Gob(had like 80/104 mp. -.-) and I got it on the second leech I killed... I killed like 8,000 of these in Zi'tah out of boredum and never saw the drop. -.-
got it.

I spent about 3 hours last night, from around 3am to 6am killing Poison Leeches with my brother, who's a 31THF/15NIN. He leveled off of them, which was pretty funny, and we didn't get the drop. Went to bed. Woke up today, killed about ten of the leeches, and got the drop. I thought it would've taken longer. Over all it wasn't that bad. Oh, and I got it on a clear, sunny in-game afternoon, so it may affect it after all, because most of the time the weather was overcast and/or raining when we were in Buburiumu Peninsula.

So now I'm running around getting the different lights. Got three down. Anyone have any suggetions for Ice other than Xarcabard and Beaucedine?

p.s.
This is my first message here. =D

What IS the issue?

I've wasted 14 real time hours every day for the last week. Killed well over 500 Leeches in Buburimu and have NEVER gotten even ONE drop.

Sure the drop is rare but this is total BS!

Summoner isn't worth this..

Yeah,I just got it in Konschtat. You can't get Thunder in Qufim.

I have every weather pattern except for fire, I check all the weather people and nothing is coming up. I just wasted my entire night sitting in the deserts waiting for it and never got it. I'm thinking about just going back and leveling my WHM and hope that it comes along at Valkurm.

I did however hear about getting it in Valley of Sorrows and Cape Terrigan, how can I reach those places?

Okay, i'm all new here, but whatever. Here's a hint for you guys/girls doing the Summoner quest. You can go to Upper Jeuno, there's a person there close to the zoning out from Upper Jeuno, standing quite near the clock tower. Talk to her, and she'll give you a 3 days ahead weather report for whatever region you wish to know about. Maybe this'll help you in the future.

This should be fun, people are upset about weather conditions, which is just one more thing for me to look forward to. At this point, I've been in Valkurm for the past 5 hours killing Thread Leaches, not one drop but I managed to get over 1,000 exp from those lil' f****** alone. At the same time trying to do the Road to Aht Uhrgan Quest and can't find a single ghoul to kill for the magicked skull.

I swear, let's start a petition... I F****** HATE VALKURM DUNES!

That's all.

# Dec 31 2006 at 1:53 AM Rating: Decent
I managed to get the drop in one kill not even trying. I was in Korroloka Tunnel finishing the NIN flag quest with my 55 PLD and killed a single Thread Leech to keep it from linking when I hit the ???

Wouldn't you know that one single solitary leech dropped the Carbuncle Ruby? Go figure....
stuff and stuff
# Dec 31 2006 at 1:52 AM Rating: Decent
my husband got his ruby as 30mnk/15thf off of the first leech he killed at the easternmost penninsula. then got all the elements from tahrongi, lathiene, valkrum, konchtat and pashow except for ice. He's going to go to the glacier tommorrow for it. A friend an me went out to get our rubies and no luck after 5 hours in both the peninsula and qufim isle. I'd say overall the drop is a 1/75 - 1/100 from everyone's posts and personal experience.
Got Ruby in ONE kill
# Dec 31 2006 at 1:48 AM Rating: Decent
LoL I was finishing the NIN flag quest in Korroloka Tunnel and killed one single solitary Leech so it would not link when I touched the ???

Wouldn't you know, it, that one leech drop the Carbuncle Ruby, so I got two jobs for the price of one :D

I'd suggest Eastern/Western Alteppa Desert for heat, and Beaucedine Glacier for snow. Alteppa is convenient because you can just get a Teleport-Altep there, and if heat is in effect, you'll automatically get the cut-scene. Not to mention it seemed to be more consistently hotter in Alteppa than in Valkurm; maybe that was just me. *shrug*

Anyways Beaucedine Glacier is where I got snow. After getting high level help (thanks so much Gakaroth!) I was finally able to get through that awful tunnel (not sure of the name) and end up in Beaucedine. I basically just waited at the entrance of the zone to Beaucedine until snow appeared; it took like five minutes, and there were no mobs, so it was quite safe. I think the only other place with snow apart from Beaucedine is Xarcabard, which I'm guessing is way more difficult to get to.

Just got my ruby today from some random people in qufum :P then figured what the hell why not give it a shot, so went around gettin a few here and there. And then it came to the red....the ever elusive fire as I have heard. So I go around to the local weather people and all the areas from jeuno were no signs, so I head to rabao and check the weather......altep areas were a no go just sandstorms and sunny, then check cape terrigan....and to my suprise it was chance of heat waves for today and day after tomorrow. So I dunno if many people knew or not or if this is uncommon but cape terrigan could be a pretty easy place to get it. It might just have a pretty common rate for heat weather.
Still trying to get RED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sit in Altepa desert, and keep checking East and West for fire. I believe theres also a weather NPC in Rabao, but hey who wants to ruin the suprise ><

Seriously though, I've seen fire way more often there than any other zone. Just be patient :)
Patterns
# Nov 09 2006 at 11:05 PM Rating: Decent
Ok here is the deal. It took me about an hour or so with a party of about 3 of my LS members for it to drop. Thanks guys. Since then I have been working on the patterns. I'd say for about 2 days in game. I've run across all of them except red. I happened to be riding a chocobo when I ran into the indigo in the battila downs. Luck maybe or does that pattern show up there alot or no?

# Oct 25 2006 at 5:29 AM Rating: Decent
It took two hours for me to get the ruby. Asked my friend to help me kill leeches in buburimu, and we killed 1,5 hours poison leeches there.
Then he asked one of his friends to accompany us, and we killed half an hour leeches. then one dropped it.
This must the most boring quest I've ever done.
Hah!

I got the ruby after my third leech in Buburimu at Lv 30. Took all but 5 minutes. :D

It's not mentioned on the main page for this quest but if you haven't rescued the Joker cardian yet you will not be able to take part in this quest as it is the Joker card that tells you what to do with Carbuncle's Ruby.

If you have the Ruby and are noticing you cannot start the quest you need to do some more Star Onion Brigade quests. The ****** is located in Port Windurst behind the Warehouses. You can find information about their quests here.

False. Ajido-Marujido tells you about the quest if Joker doesn't. The prerequisite to obtain this quest is Lv30 and having the Carbuncle Ruby, and nothing further.

This isnt true. I HATE Windurst with a passion, so I didnt have any quests done except for the RNG quest. No problemes besides the Long time getting the Ruby.
