Summary

A lump of Bomb Steel and a Sacred branch are required to make a new katana. You will have to ask Jaucribaix's pupils to find out where you can get these items.

Walkthrough

To begin this quest, you will need to speak to Jaucribaix in Norg.

To get there, rent a chocobo in Kazham and head all the way south to the outpost. Stay in Yuhtunga Jungle and beware the holes. Two are connected to each other and will bring you back out to the Outpost and another will take you nowhere. You will need to fall through the hole nearest to the waterfall. Head outside and straight towards the right side of the waterfall as you see it. This will take you to Sea Serpent Grotto.

Once at Sea Serpent Grotto, you want to either have Sneak on you or use silent oil. Once you are set, stick to your right and make every possible right turn you can. Eventually you'll reach a Stone Gate. Click on it to open it. Remember to recast sneak/silent oil if it wears off. Proceed the same way guiding it to the right, you'll get to some steps and you'll see a series of arches on that path. This leads to Norg.

Once in there, go to the right and you can either go up through the path on your right (past the chocobo). Go all the way to the end of the hall and you'll find Jaucribaix. Talk to him and he'll tell you about the ways of a samurai and inform you he needs a Bomb Steel and Sacred Branch. Next, go down the long steps and talk to Aeka, she'll give you the Oriental Steel. To the left of the steps somewhere in the back is Ranemaud, he'll give you the Sacred Sprig.

To get back to Kazham from Norg, rent a chocobo. As you head out, guide it to the left and you'll find a path that takes you up (don't try to go back the same way you came in, because you CANNOT). Once you are on the level above just keep going all the way North to Kazham.

The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah

To get to the Sanctuary, rent a chococo in Port Jeuno and head out to Sauromugue Champaign and zone into Meriphataud Mountains. From there, head East and go to Zi'Tah, you can see it on your map at (M-4). You can also reach the Meriphataud Mountains from Tahrongi Canyon.

Make sure you have at least one hatchet with you and go east to (K-10), where you will find a sort of tunnel. Go through it all the way to (L-9) (this point doesn't show on the map) and look for a ??? on a huge tree. Use your hatchet on the ??? and a Guardian Treant will spawn. Defeat it and obtain the the Sacred Sprig. Trade the sprig to the ??? and you'll receive the Sacred Branch.

Konschtat Highlands

Go to (D-8) and head into a tunnel. At the end there will be a ???. When ready, trade the Oriental Steel to the ??? and Forger will spawn. Defeat it and he will drop a Bomb Steel.

Once you have both items, head back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix. During the cutscene, Gilgamesh will appear and say your reward will be ready in 3 days (3 real life hours). Return after this time and you'll receive the Mumeito and the ability to become a Samurai.

getting to norg
# Nov 23 2003 at 1:12 PM Rating: Decent
to get to norg you need to take a chocobo to "The Hidden valley" ... so ull need a map.. but when you get there the ent to the grotto is behind a waterfall... now if you want to get thru the serpents grotto and you arent a whm that can cast sneak or with one that can... buy silent oils from the AHs they are under the medicine category, they usually got from 600-1k .. it casts sneak on the user so you can cross the grotto with out being attacked... but i'd recommend you buy more then one... because they act like the spell which has a random duration... as to crossing th grotto just keep going straight till you see a rock wall on the right that has an inlet to where a hidden door would be.... it is a door... click on it and continue going straight all the way to norg ... to get back you can either change to a lvl 1 and run out to your death and get sent to your home point or get a chocobo and try to make your way thru that damed jungle maze.

A tip about the silent oil: if you take off all your equipment it lasts twice as long. its not random, it depends on equipment

Once I get to level 30 how would one get to Norg. Looking at a map of Norg the only connecting area is the Sea Serpent Grotto and there is no map of that and i was just wondering how one would manage to get to Norg

Anyone know how to actually get to the quest giver? im closin in on 30 and i need to know how to get to him... i heard you have to quest for some kazham key that lets you take an airship there, but i havent seen anything of the sorts on allakhazam...
RE: norg?
# Nov 19 2003 at 11:37 PM Rating: Default
The quest giver is in Norg, a town reachabe via the Sea Serpent Grotto. The only way to access this island is to take an airship to Khazam (you need to have completed the Khazam airship quest first).
soloability
# Nov 16 2003 at 5:29 AM Rating: Decent
takes a solid group of 36+ to kill either of the NM mobs, especially the bomb who can self destruct and cause your group to wipe. Samurai has been called the hardest SJ quest in game.
RE: soloability
# Dec 01 2003 at 9:15 PM Rating: Default
self destruct depends on the bomb's hp.

Solo-ability.

Another poster asked this already, but as a Level 30 red mage I wonder if I could solo this quest? Seems pretty possible given the ability to debuff as well as I can, but no mention of the mob's levels or anything is given.

Back on the subject at hand
# Nov 10 2003 at 3:18 PM Rating: Default
I leveled for a while in the Highlands and came across a ??? at the base of one of the windmills. Now me being only level 20 i haven't tried the quest, but this discovery might be linked to the samurai quest. The best way to describe what i saw is at the bast of a windmill you see a gate kind of open and on the open is a selectable spot that says ???.

No guarantees this is what he is talking about, because i'm not 30 and as such i can't do the quest.. oh well.

I saw it too; I'm guessing that's where you trade the iron.

That particular ??? is for another quest out of Bastok.

Anybody Done This

Groups? Solo capable? And what is with the bloody ??? part? Anybody gotten this far yet?
Meh
# Nov 03 2003 at 1:46 AM Rating: Default
Weeeeell, not really. The main thrust of a DK is to do tons of damage, and sub ninja wont help that much. You have all your skill in 2-handed weapons, so dual-wield is not helpfull. The other main draw for ninja, blink, will be nice in jams, but not in good groups (the pally will be tanking, not you). But do what you want to.
RE: Meh
# Nov 03 2003 at 10:00 AM Rating: Decent
This is the Samurai quest, not ninja. And the quick gain of TP would help with the DKs damage output.
