killed wolf middle left of F8 next to wall in N. Gust. No drop though. Ran around that mountain to outpost and back around and killed Black Wolf again far South-west corner of F8 block. Again no drop.

That was all I saw for 1 night, went to get map is only reason I was there. Got Wolf Hide and Revival Root instead. :(

Gudav is in H5/G5 in Port Bastok, Galka standing on a deck. Just get Dog Collar, talk to him then trade.

I found Black Wolf in N Gust several times just passing through; IIRC, each time I killed it I got the Dog Collar drop (4+ times). Seems to spawn or wander over to the Southermost part of F9, and into E. This is probably the only mob that drops the rare Dog Collar, which sells for around 2,000 gil at Bastok AH (Titan), so don't expect it from other wolves.

While reading this discussion I went to the location read a bit more looked back at my screen at there it was; a little bit south and east of the bridge.

Hit it with 132 damage its health bar almost emptied out so it probably has about 140-150 life.

He dropped both a collar and a wolf hide for me. Not too sure if im luckier then hell or if he drops it all the time.

I'm about role Playing on here. Yes spending 3000 for the map or 1000 or so for the collar is kool in all, but it so takes away from the game. I find it rewarding and satisfying to go and find the item. Hell it's bad enough i have to use a strat site for the information. I love the old ones where you don't need a guide like FFVII.

I killed one in S. Gustaberg just outside of the Bastok Markets entrance.

I just bought it for 900 gil, sue me =p.

Maps generally cost 3000 gil, so to me 900 was a bargain that saved me an hour+ of traveling/hunting.

The best concentration of Black Wolves seems to be in the hill of N. Gustaberg. (Also quite a few in the S. Gustaberg hill.) I have found that if you clear out all of the enemies in the area before dark, the wolf is bound to appear sooner rather than later. (I think they spawn from the same points as the sheep, but I am not certain.) When you need a specific enemy that spawns at night, (I'm thinking "Ghouls") it is best not sit around and hope that one shows up, but to clear the area to free up spawn points. Just a thought.

Finally got the collar. I had also seen and killed the Black Wolf on the 'hills' in North and South Gust. But after reading this thread I started camping the bridge north of the outpost in N.Gust. I camped for 8 full days, the wolf popped on 3 of them. Once back by the NPC near the waterfall, one time on the other side of the road but still south of the bridge, and the last time just to the right of the bridge.

He actually spawned right in front of me a 9:30PM... so the spawn time range people are givin is wrong. I can promise you it was before 10PM :oD

The collar is selling for 1500gil and the maps are sold for cheaper... I'd say it is worth 1000 gil or so to not have to camp him... but it felt good to finally see that drop ;o]

Yaaa.. just did this.

First and only time. 1:30am game time. He spawned, and he died, and he dropped the collar.

They only thing rare about this drop was the Dark Crystal he dropped at the same time.
