Summary

While transcribing an ancient manuscript, Hariga-Origa finds a smudge that makes the writing unreadable. He wants you to help find an item that will clear the nasty blot away.

Walkthrough

If you have just completed Chasing Tales, you must zone before you can get this quest. If you talk to

Talk to Hariga-Origa to start the quest. If he doesn't give it to you, your fame is too low. Check with Zabirego-Hajigo. You need level 4 fame.

Hariga-Origa asks for a Slime Oil (drops from various slime creatures), and a Frost Turnip (bought from the Auction House or Zoreen in Port Windurst (M-7)).

Trade him the two items to complete the quest and receive your rewards: A Map of Fei'Yin and 3,000 gil.

The Frost Turnip isnt at the Cooking Guild its in the item shop where the Hat shop and the Magic
shop are in Windurst Waters

the slime oil is in alchemy I think, and the turnip is at the culinatrians guild nearby. lvl 47 PLD, rank five, no quest. those wouldn't have anything to do with it anyways. lol

Yes you can get the map even if your home nation is not windy. You wont be able 2 get any rank from windy has you r not from there.

I am a Sandorian and I have about LV6 fame in Windust. (Due to repeat doing quest: Only the Best in Selbina)

I just want to ask can I get this MAP without switching to Windustian? I got Rank 5 in Sandoria but never have any rank in Windust...

# Nov 14 2004 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
I got this one by maxing out my Windurst fame with the cornette quest and then completing 8 more Windurst quests (two of which were the book quests, until I did those, I didn't get this quest). I was level 36 when I got it.

Just want to confirm a previous poster's claim: I'm from Sandy and it took 35 unique Windurst quests to open this mission.

I also want to confirm that it took 35 unique quests to get this quest. I am from Windy.

I could not get this quest for the longest time even after I raised my fame to level 9. I then completed the two book quests. Still no quest. I counted the number of quests I had ... 34. Completed one more quest and that did it! Finally.

Hope this helps others.

Do you need to switch to Windust before you get this quest? Or you just did 35 unique quests and get this while you remain as Sandorian?

Thank you.

I'm at Fame Level 7, Rank 4 in Windurst and I've done Glyph Hanger, but I still can't get this Quest until I completed the Early Bird Catches the Bookworm Quest and the Chasing Tales, so this is the key. For the second one, you have to go to San d'Oria so I would suggest while you're there that you do the Her Majesty's Garden Quest for the Maps of the Northern Regions (Beaucedine Glacier and Xarcabard). Hope this helps someone.

I have all those done plus Lv 9 Fame in Windy, and I got the quest. One thing that might confuse people is that Hariga-Origa gives the quest, not Tosuka-Porika (who gives the Early Bird and Chasing Tales quests). Make sure you talk to the right guy for the quest ^_^

Just one comment, you must zone after completing "Chasing Tales" before you can get this quest (A Smudge on One's Record) from Hariga-Origa... or at least I had to.

Hey, just wondering. People keep saying you need ot do the book quests, but to do one of them you need to do mission 2-1 or something. So how do you get this quest if you are not from windy?
Damn quest...

Hero status in Windy, rank 8, 48 unique quests done, both book quests done, previous quests done for Hariga, and still can't get it.....wtf!?
fame 5
# Aug 29 2004 at 3:41 AM Rating: Decent
I just got this quest with fame 5 ("Hello there, ___. There aren't many Windurstians who don't know that name!"). I went to Hariga-Origa immediately fter finishing the previous Opistery quest ('Chasing Tales'), but he wouldn't give me this quest...until I zoned and came back.

My fame level is 7 ("Dorme. There isn't a soul in all of windurst that has yet to hear of your tales. Why, I Remember when you were just a fledgling adventurer. It seems like just yesterday... ") and I still can't get this quest. There must be some strange requirement for it.

I don't know how the fame ratings on this site work (from the user comments they're mostly wrong anyway). I was desperately trying to get this quest after doing the first three. I was at 3/9 fame and couldn't get it. I finally got my fame to go up to level 4, and I could get the quest. The quote for this fame level is: "Why, if it isn't [Name]! I heard some guys talking about you over their dinners at the eatery last night. They had nothing but good things to say about you. Keep up the good work!"

I hope this helps some of you.

Turnip in Windy
# Jul 27 2004 at 8:28 AM Rating: Decent
Someone said that the Frost Turnip is not in the cooking guild, which it is. I don't know if Windy has to be 1st in Rank, but I bought 2 stacks there last night to make broth, so I know it exists.

I've never seen the Frost Turnip there. I was just looking for it to cook with. Windy was in first. Maybe someone has to sell it to the guild first?

I could not get this quest until I had finished the missing book quests for the library. My fame level is: "Miss Tamrith! You'd have to be living in a hole somewhere not to have heard that name."

The frost turnip is NOT found in the Culinarian's Guild! In Windurst the only place you can find it is in the air travel agency by a very laconic galka... however, if Windurst doesn't control Valdeaunia, then you're out of luck. Time to start globetrotting... or buy them off of the AH.

Even with Valdeaunia under the Windurst Flag, you can't reach the Frost Turnip pusher without a Airship Pass first. His shop is in a horrible location. So for me, it was the AH, where I got both the turnip and oil for 1,100 gil. It was a bit pricy, but defently recoup the looses quickly when completing the quest. Best of all, I didn't travel anywhere for it.

The rewards for this quest are quite sweet. The two itmes cost a combined 900 gil at ah and in return you get Fei Yin map and 3000 gil for 2-3 minutes of work. Only problem is building up the fame for them.
Common mistake made when trying to get this quest...
# Jun 08 2004 at 11:03 PM Rating: Excellent
Yes you do need both library quests... And yes you do need fame.

But most importantly... YOU NEED TO ZONE...

If you just did the 2nd library quest, having been given the gil, etc. You need to zone. The simplest way is to use the NPC warp to woods, and back again. Then talk to Hariga Origa again. You will get the quest this time if you have already met the pre-quest qualifications and fame requirements.

You have no idea how many ppl have asked me what do i have to do get this, or why cant i get this...

Edit:
Sorry my mistake with the name, it is Hariga-Origa.
I wanted to say that you get this quest from the same npc as the Horutoto ruin's map quest, not from the npc who gives the books quests.

Ohbiru-Dohbiru is in the south Rhinostery building. He has nothing to do with the Optistery.

Here's my story
# Mar 08 2004 at 1:00 PM Rating: Decent
This is a stacking quest, I had to do lost for words (mission 2-1) before I could get the first book quest. After you are done leave zone and return, you can do the Early Bird catches the bookworm quest, return the first book get 1500gil, leave zone and return and you can get the secone quest chasing tails, which takes a couple of hours to do because you have to go to San's to get the book. Upon returning the book you get 2800gil, leave zone, and return and you can do this quest. Fame allows you to get the quests, but you can't do the quest before you do the book quests. There are several stacking quests you have to do in order to get the next quest. I also have found that you have to finish one quest from and area/building before they will give you another. Stacking quest also deal with fame (i.e. have to have certain fame to start at least the first quest on the stack) but not sure if the related quests need the same or high fame, I've never had a problem with getting a quest higher on the stack if I've done the other ones first. But I do have a high fame. I'm also not sure (cause I've only one one character) if fame has to do do with both number and times you do a quest or if its the number of quests you've done.

He means he is rank 5, and also has the highest amount of fame possible in windurst, not that rank 5 is the highest possible. And rank 10 is the highest rank, and lots of people have gotten there, at least on my server anyways
