Summary

When preparing the food offering as a sign of Windurst's friendship with Giddeus, Ranpi-Monpi accidentally mixed in a liquid that the Yagudo hate. Quickly recover the tainted offering from the altar at Giddeus before ruffling some Yagudo feathers.

Walkthrough

Talk to Ranpi-Monpi to begin this quest. He will send you to Giddeus. Go to the lower floor and look for a door around (G-6) that leads into a storage room. There is an altar there. Touching the altar will get you the key item: Off Offering. Bring it back to Ranpi-Monpi.

cannotlinkto has a fame gage on quests, you can even sort by fame required. Somepages' fame gage is awesome but their explanations are lacking. Here is the quest: A Crisis in the Making.

For maps: FFXICLOPEDIA SITE ,
Giddeous Maps

Other map site: Vana'diel Maps .

I'm a little amazed of all the confusion about this quest and these boards.

The starting NPC (Ranpi-Monpi) is standing right in the middle of the Culinarian Guild main room (Funny looking and talking Taru standing on a barrel). Not sure if any fame is needed or not. I've done a couple quest here and there, but nothing to scoff at.

Next is the trip to Giddeus. There are many other quest in Windurst that involve trips to Giddeus, so if you don't want to keep running back and forth between the two, activate as many as you can and do em' all at once. Research Allakhazam for more info. There are two seperate floors here (The normal floor and the basement), so there will be two diffrent maps. There are three ways to get to the basement: I-8 (The long route), F-8 (The short route) and a hole in the ground at H-7 (The WRONG route which will take you to a seperate area in the basement. If you are not high enough level, you will be gang-probed by several Yags waiting within).

Once you arrived in the basement, You will want to travel to F-7. At this location will be a Yagudo NPC named Uu Zhoumo guarding "Winstaria Doors". I'm not too sure if you have to do anything special to open these doors (I kind of did this quest at a high level with other quest under my belt). Once you open the doors, you will be in a storage room (Another Yag NPC just pacing back and forth). At the end of the room will be a "Alter of Offerings". Click it. Get the "Off Offering" and then head out.

Go back to Ranpi. Talk to him. Get your reward. And then blow it all on Tarutaru ganja and Mithra Lap dances.

I havn't done this quest but im pretty possitive i know the area where teh vault is in and unless theres eomthing insane waiting for you in the vault i suggest your level 23-25+, at 25 everything conned easy and TWTBW down there, exept the fire elementals... they got impossible to gauge >.<, they're summons though so they dont agro unless the summoner does

# Jun 17 2004 at 10:11 AM Rating: Decent
Don't worry about the elementals. They are easier to beat than the Mendicants. If it really bothers you, give it a nice dose of water. It loves that! ^^

How many of those can you carry?

Can you get the Off Offering, go home, put it in your Mog Safe, return and get another Off Offering, put it in your safe...then trade like 10 in a row to them?

Since the "Off Offering" is a key item...

YOU CANNOT HOLD MORE THAN ONE OFF OFFERING AT ONE TIME.

I hope that answers your question. ^^;
Getting This Quest?
# Mar 08 2004 at 9:01 PM Rating: Default
I Can Not get this quest. I have never done it. I have completed 8 quests in Windurst, 19 in Bastock, 12 in San. Maybe I need to do more quests in Windurst? I am Rank 3 (bar is full, completeing any mission will send me over to Rank 4).

To get to the lower level, open your map and look at the "mid-west" part where you can see a path which looks like a dead-end or cut. Walk to there and you can go down a level, and your "/map" will be refreshed with the lower level map.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you want this quest to be repeatable, either DON'T do the "In a Stew" quest in WindurstWoods, or finish the "In a Stew" quest before you attempt "A Crisis in the Making" quest for your 1st time. For me, I did the "In a Stew" quest after I did the "A Crisis in the Making" quest for few times, so when I talk to the NPC Ranpi-Monpi in the Culinary Guild of WindurstWaters, he just repeat the words as if I finished the "In a Stew" quest. He no longer allow me to repeat the "A Crisis in the Making" quest..... >_<

There goes my 400gil repeatable quest...

Min level is just a suggestion, or recommendation. Would be tough to do this quest solo at that level without help.

Ranpi-monpi(sp?) is located in the culinarians guild on the nothern part of Windurst Waters.

He is on the left cooking guild building, and he is the tarutaru standing on ladderish-thing. It appears as if he is stirring something...

There are two taru thats are standing on something/stirring. One is Ranpi-Monpi, and the other is the taru that will give you advanced cooking imagery!!! ((You can't ask Ranpi-Monpi for imagery...))

Hope this helps!!! ^^

Better directions.
# Dec 24 2003 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
Someone needs to post better directions as to where the Alter is. It's NOT in the F7 area. Like a fool I continuously searched the area for a hidden door and fell into a pit and got globbered by over powered Yagouda & Earth digger. What a waste. I'm wondering if the alter is in the LARGEST room on the Giddeus map. If so, just say so. I'm not going to go back there until I reach L14 or someone puts up better directions on here.

When you first enter through the Wisteria Doors (This is also where you go for "The Emmisary," a Bastok mission) turn left, it should be the termite hive/thing in front of you. Examine it, and you should receive the "Off Offering."

If you don't immeadiately see it, use your switch target key ((0 on the num-pad))

Hi, this is me again. I finally got this quest to repeat. Obviously I have waited a while, so he does eventually stop talking about Martha Stew. I'm not sure exactly how long you have to wait though before this quest can repeat.

Decent quest, not really a *total pain* but the reward isn't that great.

Highly recomend doing this quest at the same time as "Early Bird Catches the Bookworm" as they are in the same treasure room.

Can't Start Quest
# Dec 05 2003 at 10:53 AM Rating: Default
I couldn't even start the quest. Every time I talk to the cook nothing happens. He says a couple of sentences and that's it. I'm only a L10 Mage, so maybe I need to be at a higher level or do a different quest first. No idea!!

I talked to the cook again and, well, he fubbed up again! The quest is repeatable, if you care to do so. Haven't gone back to Giddeus yet to find out what the second trip is worth however - the first completion scarred me for life!

Second trip is worth the same as the first - 400 Gil. But since you have to go there anyways to get the overdue book, you might as well activate this quest too.

As far as I know right now I say skip this quest if you're a mage. I'm not sure if this quest is a precursor to any other quests or not but here's my two cents for what its worth.

Here's why I say skip it:
My gf and I (blm 18 rdm 17) found this to be extremely long, boring, and actually difficult. Little XP and the only drops were Yaguda necklaces (if you're beginning weaving craft these come in handy), crystals, and the named Yaguda that drops a shield. All of which we found to be not worth the time. Healing down here is tenuous as well since the worms on the lower cavern attack w/out being provoked and the Yagudas tend to spawn quickly.

In the end, for all our work and time we got a whopping 400 gil. Considering I made 3000gil(1,500 from chocobilius, and 1,500 from the broken wand/animal glue quest) in less than 15 minutes I found this quest to be a waste of time.
Oh, we also died coming out of Giddeus. :( Least it made the trip home faster.

BTW, if you choose to do this quest, go to the lower caves and reach <pos> F-7, there you'll see a door and a dumby that says, "you're not allowed in the door." Ignore him and just go in.

All this quest is good for is start it up and complete it when you're off to get your keys to Kazham, it's a cheap bonus to your fame. The fame starts to really take it's toll on not being able to get you Gobbiebags and storage expansions if you ignore quests like this.
Crisis in the holes

Also, look out for holes in the floor, even right at the cave entrance. You'll drop into rooms swarming with percursors if you're not careful (like I did!)
difficulty
# Nov 12 2003 at 1:15 PM Rating: Decent
this quest is actually fairly difficult... if you are below level 15 you need to group because the area is pretty hard (especially near the altar where you get the item)
Ranpi-Monpi
# Nov 08 2003 at 9:14 AM Rating: Excellent
Ranpi-Monpi is in the cooking guild, the building where they are frying veggies, kneeding dough, and making soups. He is the tarutaru making soup on the left. He speaks with a french accent. You may need to do mission 3 first, and/or may need to have joined the cooking guild (you can join more than one guild at no cost).

Actually, you don't need to do either of those.

I was rank one with no missions completed when I got this quest.

Also, you do not need to join the cooking guild. But, you should, since it's free and you get a free fire crystal just for joining. ^^
