Summary

Now that the Star Onion Brigade has the old Optistery ring, they can unlock the door to the spooky old abandoned Ghostly House. Yikes! Once inside, will they be able to uncover the Cat Burglar's plot and foil her evil scheme? Go, go, Onions!

Walkthrough

You need to go to Castle Oztroja and head to the level door at (I-8). Drop down the trap door and examine a blank spot and you should get a key item: Old Ring. Bring that back to Kohlo-Lakolo.

Depending on how long you took to complete the quest, Kohlo-Lakolo will either send you to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls (G-3) for a cutscene or he will end the quest right there. Either option results in the reward.

i need some help, maybe this is a glich in the game or something, but anyways here is the deal.

i got this quest together with my m7 for windurst, i did m7 without any problem , and i also received teh old ring from the "???" on the floor. okay

when i go back to windurst to talk to Kohlo-Lskolo, all he said is "In order to catach the criminal, we'll need the seven gadgets found in the junior investigator's toolkit!"
" So, each of us is to go find one gadget and meet back here! then we can form our own real crime-fighting investigation unit!"

okay what did i do wrong? i examined the old ring before i come back to talk to Kohlo-Lskolo. is that the problem? cause i'm really running out of ideas. give me a bit help here...

"edit"
oops, my ls told me i forgot one quest before hand.. stupid me...

the seven gadgets is the quest you get right before this one, you need to complete that quest, wait a little while then talk to him again for the old ring one.

To find the "hole at F-8", you must go to the door on the first floor and pull a handle. To get to this door, from Meriphated Mtns entrance, take a left (North) at the 4-way. Then take the first right (East). Run straight through the huge room and into the hallway that is straight ahead (North). The hallway curves South a bit. Take the first left (East). There is the door with the two handles. The handle will either open the door, or make you fall into the room below (which is where the Key Item is supposed to be). To pull the handles, you should stand in the middle of the doorway and target one. If it opens the door, just wait until it closes and target the other one. Once you fall, there is a trap door. Supposedly, when you open the trap door via targeting the " " you will receive the key item.

Here is a map to the castle.
http://ffxi.killvoid.com/maps/oztroja.htm

The door with the handles that you pull is at the black dot near "A" on the first map. Once you fall through the trap door in the room that you fell into, you will be at the black dot above "J" on the last map. The Interrogators in this hallway are still Easy Prey to me at level 50. The rest are "Too Weak". After walking through "J" on the last map, you will be at "J" on the 5th map. Walk West to "C" on the 5th map, and you will be at "C" on the 1st map near the Meriphated Mtns. entrance. Hope this helps...

I tried to help two Linkshell Members obtain the Old Ring key item last night. I had previously gotten the ring when I helped a Windurstian friend get the Old Ring for his Windurst mission.

Needless to say, we tried four times and had no luck.

The 1st time, I pulled the handle and we fell into the room. They clicked on the door to fall again, and did not receive the key item. So we killed the yagudos to get out.

The 2nd time, I pulled the handle and we fell into the room. We searched the room hoping to find a ??? somewhere other than the trap door. Nothing... so we fell and killed the yagudos again.

The 3rd time... They each pulled the handle and fell into the room. Then they each opened the trap door. Still no key item! Killed the yagudos.....

The 4th time, we all zoned. I disband the party and followed them back in helping them kill the yagudos. They each pulled the handle and fell... and both opened the trap door. STILL... no Old Ring!

So, we gave up. The ONLY thing I can think... is that you have to be WITH a Windurstian doing the Windurst Mission 7 because I got the ring when I was helping my friend get his mission... and I didn't even have the quest. He pulled the handle... and the trap door. I pulled the handle and the trap door. We both got the Old Ring key item. So, I don't know! T_T *sigh*

The directions on this mission are terrible. You have no idea what hallway that you are supposed to enter or where the turns are in the maze of the castle. The directions need to be clearer with locations for important events. There are seven levels to the castle. The levels should be given with the locations.

The people who have posted have tried their best to provide good information, but unfortunately they failed to do so. Wandering around the Castle below level 41 is dangerous. Without good directions this quest is a death sentence.

The most detailed post is anonymous. Anonymous writes: ". . . head to the hallway in the north east . . ." There are two hallways in the north east: one goes initially north and the other initially goes east.

When you follow the north corridor, you turn east, then north then west, and you end up on level 6 in the castle.

When you follow the east corridor, you turn south to a two way intersetion where you can continue south or go east. If you go east you turn north then east again and end up on level three in the castle.

When anonymous writes ". . . follow this hallway to the end . . ." the east traveling passage goes to another T intersection. I this T intereection on the third floor "the end?"

Perhaps someone could clarify this a little more so that we are not guessing about where we are going in the castle.

Getting the quest
# Mar 12 2004 at 2:14 PM Rating: Decent
In order to actually receive the quest, you must already possess the ring. Weird, I know, but just go get the ring, then talk to Kohlo-Lakolo. Hand him the ring. Enjoy the cutscene. Zone out of Port Windurst, then zone back in and speak to him again. The quest will show as completed in your log.

It's all about the ******

I dropped down the first hole from the door, when I click on the circle, it opens.. but no key item obtained.
Sneakiness!
# Feb 29 2004 at 6:16 PM Rating: Decent
Level requirement... go with a white mage with sneak and invisible. :)

Anyways we need the fame and/or level requirements for this quest. As the last poster says he did not have it in his quest log and got it... But I tried the same thing and could not get it.

I tried with 30 White Mage and what appears to be Level 2 Fame. No go...
possibly better directions
# Feb 28 2004 at 1:13 AM Rating: Excellent
this is my experience, recalled as best i can ... i did this as a level 41 white mage, and i can tell this would have been a LOT harder had all of the Yagudos not checked Too Weak To Be Worthwhile to me. this place is filled with them!

here is my mapless walkthrough, hope it helps....

once you talk to Kohlo-Lakolo (after doing the previous quests with the onion brigade), he will mention something about needing a ring. i DID NOT have a quest entry for this in my quest log, but based off the advice in this thread, i decided to go to Castle Oztroja anyhow and try my luck. Castle Oztroja is at L-8 in Meriphataud Mountains, at the east end of Drogaroga's Spine. (if you dont have the map, go to Meriphataud Mountains and follow the giant bone spine in the air from the north side all the way east - you will eventually see what resembles a sand castle, which is where youre going.)

when you get into the castle, take your first right, your first left, and then head to the hallway in the northwest of the giant room you are in. go down the hallway, and take your first left. follow this new hallway until the end, where you will see a brass door on your left. stand between the handles on either side of the door and select one of them. (by the way, i am a tarutaru, and clicking the handles originally said "Cannot reach target." this caused some panic until i realized that standing directly between the two handles and selecting the easternmost handle worked for me. i dont know whether anyone else would have this problem, though.)

once i clicked the handle, i was immediately dropped down a trap door into a doorless room. on the floor of that room was a strange imprinted circle on the floor. taking care not to stand on it in case it was another trap door, i clicked the circle and got the Key Item: Old Ring. just for kicks, i moved to stand on top of the circle and clicked it again. i was dropped down another trap door, into an area where Yagudos were now checking as Easy Prey (all previous Yagudos had checked as Too Easy).

at this point i decided to take my chances, and warped back to Port Windurst. when i went to see Kohlo-Lakolo again, it triggered a cut scene where he said he recognized the ring, and that we should all hurry to the House of the Hero to catch the cat burglar. (end of cut scene.) not knowing what else to do, i went to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls, and when i clicked on the door, another cut scene was triggered. the onion brigade goes into the house and finds the cat burglar, who tells us that there are worse people than her to catch. she goes out the front door, locking us in to be "eaten by the ghosts." much cuteness transpires, and Pichichi ends up saving the day. when the scene finished, i got a Quest Complete trumpet noise, and the quest Onion Rings showed up in my Completed Quests log, even though i had never had it in my Current Quest log (as far as i know).

when i went back to Port Windurst and talked to Kohlo-Lakola again, he gave me a Bouncer Club.

hope that helps. good luck!

when you get into the castle, take your first right, your first left, and then head to the hallway in the northEAST of the giant room you are in.

^^^^^^ i just reread that and realized i meant northeast, not northwest.
Lost more info needed.

Whoever posted this quest needs to update it with a lot more information. First of all, this is not a Level 1 quest. Min Level is probably 40 or greater, I would think. Second, there's no description on exactly where the ring is located in the Castle. Since the castle is pretty big and multileveled with trap doors, you would really need a step-by-step walk through. We also need to know that you have to zone in and out to get the Bouncer Club from Kohlo-Lakolo. All of this needs to be posted in the quest's description, or else it's not helpful at all.

About what level can you do this quest? If you use an escape and a warp scroll.

Can you sneak into this place and get the item without getting caught and warp out?

There are seven maps to the Castle Oztroja map set. Please describe the way into this pit from the surface in the Meriphataud Mountains?

What class do you need? What skills do you use?

Anything else I need to know to sucessfully complete this quest?

Getting the Old Ring
# Feb 17 2004 at 12:17 PM Rating: Default
getting the ring is a windurst mission, is it possible to get the ring without being a citizen of windy? i've fallen down the trapdoor twice. first during magicite mission, i wasn't looking for a ??? but i didn't see one other than the one to open the hole. on the second time, i was trying to do this quest, and again saw no ??? other than the hole to jump down (and i didn't get a ring keyitem)

i was jes wondering if a non-windy citizen has finished this quest :)

Does anyone have any information on the "Crying over Onions" quest (#5 in the ****** series). I have started it, and I have talked to Honoi-Gomoi in Waters, but I am not sure where to go from there.
Actually...
# Jan 07 2004 at 12:56 AM Rating: Default
Once you get the ring and bring it back to Kohlo-Lakolo, he initiates a cut scene where you see the SoBs go to the house of the hero in Windy Walls.

YOU YOURSELF DO NOT NEED TO GO TO WINDY WALLS.

After completing the cutscene simply zone out and zone back in and speak again to Kohlo-Lakolo. Then he gives you the Bouncer Club.

Zone out and in yet again to receive the next quest from Kohlo-Lakolo if you want to begin it.

You have to zone and then talk to Kohlo-Lakolo again to receive the Bouncer's Club. Also this quest appears under the name "Onion Rings" in the quest log once completed.

Kholo-Lakolo tells me about the ring but I can't get the quest to show up in my quest log. Am I missing something here? I've completed 41 unique Windhurst quests.

The quest does not have to appear in your quest log for you to obtain the Old Ring from Oztroja.
Missing info!!!!
# Dec 13 2003 at 10:37 PM Rating: Decent
Please remember to fill in the whole quest. Especially if you have to pay for a membership :-p

Ah well after talking to kholo-lakolo - Head to Windurst walls G3 (House of the hero). Here you will see a very funny cut-scene with a GHOST!!!

After that head back and talk to kholo again.

Yeah I agree it is a ***** getting out. I was happy. I kind of lucked out when I did this quest. I need a Escape scroll and one of the people in my Party had it but wouldn't give it to me. He wouldn't sell it to me, wouldn't trade it to me. He was being an all around ****. But when we went in there and start getting our asses Kicked. Magically he coughed it up. He seemed to believe that I would actually need the thing to help him out. I actually got that and Warp II from him. I had Warp so I was good. But I didn't have II so he gave me that to so I really lucked up.

But oh well. I will say this when you do this one. Try to make sure that you and your entire party are smart enough to know how to run. By this I mean, how to run, so monsters don't pick up on you. I.E. instead of running in front of the MOb. Run on the wall that is far away from it.

# Dec 06 2003 at 3:26 PM Rating: Default
Yeah...do you have to have the quest in your journal before going for this ring? I also have him telling me he needs the ring but not giving me this quest, even after i zone out and back in.

Can anyone give the location of the Castle in Meph Mts? Ive been running around on my chocco and cant seem to find it...*sigh*
do this one with M7
# Nov 13 2003 at 3:42 PM Rating: Default
It's easiest to do this quest when you do Windurst Mission 7 (if you're Windurstian). They are in exactly the same place; you get the ring when you do M7. Also, it is MUCH easier to do this one with a BLM with Escape, or even a BLM with Warp2 or a WHM with teleport spells. Getting out of Oztroya is much tougher than getting in.
RE: do this one with M7
# Dec 05 2003 at 11:33 AM Rating: Excellent
The only other option for you would be a ninja and use that shiny ninja magic of yours to blow yourself up. Trust me, you do NOT want to fight your way out, you won't do it unless your 50+.
