Summary

Now that the Star Onion Brigade has the old Optistery ring, they can unlock the door to the spooky old abandoned Ghostly House. Yikes! Once inside, will they be able to uncover the Cat Burglar's plot and foil her evil scheme? Go, go, Onions!

Walkthrough

You need to go to Castle Oztroja and head to the level door at (I-8). Drop down the trap door and examine a blank spot and you should get a key item: Old Ring. Bring that back to Kohlo-Lakolo.

Depending on how long you took to complete the quest, Kohlo-Lakolo will either send you to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls (G-3) for a cutscene or he will end the quest right there. Either option results in the reward.

I finished this quest right after finishing the last one and did not receive the reward. ;_; I did complete it though.
fame or not?

This is all crap, its not hard ot find the door and fall in,its not that hard at all, so stop spamming the posts with directions, now, what really needs to be cleared up is, DO YOU NEED HIGH FAME to obtain this ring? bc yes i tried to get it and got nothing,
I cant get this quest
# Mar 30 2006 at 12:34 AM Rating: Decent
I have done all the three pre-requisites and i cant get this one. Im smn62 and i thought i couldnt get it because i was not done with af3 but i finished af3 and still couldnt get it. I zoned, waited, tried again, talked, etc... Kohlo-Lakolo refuses giving it to me.

Do you know any quests i cant be doing at the same time?

Maybe it's just me, but there was no cutscene at the House of Hero, I'm wondering if it's even necessary at all. I think it's turn in the ring >> zone out and in >> get the club.

Mmm, seems like the poster before you had the same 'problem' with the house of heros. And I did as well. Perhaps they changed the nature of this quest in some update in 2005 or something. Well, no matter.

The end of this quest was a bit different for me.
I got the key, brought it back, and got a cutscene about Joker right away. He said I was too late to help out, and the cutscene didn't have me in it at all. I went to the House of the Hero, and all I got was "The doors are firmly sealed shut". I returned to Kohlo-Lakolo and spoke to him again, and he gave me the bouncers club. *shrug* Nothing major, just a bit different.

ok...if u dont have a map, heres the simple way to get to it^^

When you enter castle oztroja from meriphautad (sp?)mountains, go straight ahead til you reach a junction...head left...go straight to the end of the road until you've got to turn right, then take your first left in the main room...

*Hitting the right lever will actually open the brass door in front of you, so just dont go through, and try again, until you fall through the trapdoor.

There is a circular door on the floor, which will give you the ring the first time you try to open it ;)
The mobs below are around the same level as above so dont worry about dropping^^

I highly suggest buying a map from Pehki Machumaht in Windurst Woods (H-11) for 3000g and having the spell Warp available for a quick escape. If you don't have Warp or a job with it, just bring a job with Invis/Sneak. I am San d'orian and Fame Rank 4 in Windurst. Kohlo asked me to get the ring well before that, but I think you need the fame in order to actually obtain it. The quest does not appear in your quests log.

Upon entering the castle, take the first left (North). You are heading for (I-8) on the map. Upon reaching the end of the hall turn right and then right again at the end of that hall. You should be in a large room. When you enter the room turn left and head straight until you enter another hallway at the top corner of H-8. The hallway will turn to the right (South). Take a left when you reach an opening. There will be a Brass Door with two targetable Handles on either side of it.

This map has the Brass Door marked:
http://ffxi-atlas.com/maps/?act=show&id=castle_oztroja

Stand in the middle of the door and pull a handle. You may get a "Cannot reach target" message which means you are not standing on the Trap Door. When you pull the lever a trap door will drop you into a room on top of some broken arrows. This is currently Basement #1 of Castle Oztroja. Within that room is another "trap door" but not so hidden. The large circle outlined on the floor in this exit-less room is what you are after. It is targetable but will appear blank " ". Do not stand on it but beside it and click the " ".

Something will shimmer and you will obtain an Old Ring (Key Item). You can either Warp out or open the " " and cast Invis/Sneak and drop down. I haven't a clue how to make your way out, but if you have a map and Invis/Sneak you can possibly find your way.

I did this as a level 34 RDM and recieved no aggro on the first floor. All enemies were EP or Too Weak. However, after you obtain the ring, the enemies down the second hole rated Tough. Good thing I had Invis on, but the EP bat still aggroed by sound. Since Invis was canceled by the bat and I was surrounded AND being pummeled by T Yags, I just Chainspelled Warp. I planned on finding an easy way out from that point for everyone, but plans change. Sorry =(

According to this map:
http://ffxi-atlas.com/maps/?act=show&id=castle_oztroja

If you take J and then C you will be back on the first floor.

Once back in Windy, I talked to Kohlo-Lakolo. Ever notice Taru guys have two names separated by a dash and girls only have one name. ^^ Anyway, he said to go to the "ghosty house" meaning the Hero's House. Take the Tele-Taru to warp to WindWalls.

Check the House of the Hero's Door for a cutscene. After the event you will hear trumpets and the Quest will appear in the completed quests menu.

Return to the SOB and talk to Kohlo for your reward, the Bouncer Club.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

??? confusion

Did this the other night. If there's any existing confusion about the Old Ring location, then:

Drop down the trapdoor at very first gate. You'll land in the north end of a very narrow room, on a small pile of arrows. Walk south around the pillar in the middle of the room, stand at the edge of the outlined circle on the floor, and tag the ??? in the middle of it - and that's it. It takes maybe 10 steps to get from where you fell to the ??? point.
Got ring before quest.

Are you standing outside of the circle when you hit the ???

If you stand ON the circle all that will happen is you drop down, and you won't pick up the ring...

Hope that helps?

This happend to me also. I just went to the Castle and dropped down. Don't stand on the little circle just target it, then click it. Ring obtained. After you get the item, then stand on the circle, target, click to drop down again so you can get out. I went back to talk to Kohlo and got cutscene. I went to the House of Heros but nothing happened. Back to Kohlo and got club and title. Good luck!
Windy Citizenship Not Needed!
# Nov 07 2004 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
You do not need to be a citizen of Windy in order to get this, but you may need at least rank 4 (maybe 5) fame to do it.

I just did it and I'm rank 6 from Bastok.

Hope this helps.
Bypass the Old Ring
# Sep 10 2004 at 9:28 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a level 30 PLD, hometown Windurst, and I'm sure I have near max fame. I've never gotten any Old Ring at Castle of Oztroja, never touched a ???, and don't have Old Ring in my Key Items. I'm currently doing Rank 3-3. I just completed this quest, still with no ring in my possession. I guess there's some way to bypass having the old ring? I had just finished the Fake Moustached Investigator quest, zoned, came back a little bit later and got the quest.

I just did this quest last night. I had the ring from a while back when I was doing my AF in the castle, so I went to Windurst talked to Kohlo-Lakolo and got the cut scene from him (not the House of Heros). I assume both will work because my friend got it from the House of Heros. I zoned out of Port Windurst to Windurst Waters using the teleport guy then went back to Kohlo-Lakolo again and got the club.

Once the cut scenes are finished zone to a different area and then come back.

Kohlo-Lakolo will then present you with your bouncer club.

Just finished this while doing Rank Mission 3-1 for Windhurst as a 25WHM/12BLM.

- Bought a scroll of instant warp from gate guard (I believe it was 750 conquest points)
- Rented chocobo and rode to L-8 in the Meriphauted Mountains to the entrance to Castle Oztroja
- Casted Sneak and Invisible, ran ahead to first intersection, turned left, made first right, ran across main room and into the long passage at J-8
- Waited for Yagudo to turn his back to me before removing Invis and triggering trapdoor while standing between 2 little post things
- Dropped into trapdoor (Cutscene for Rank Mission 3-1)
- Examined little hole in the floor without any description (not even a "???")
- Obtained Old Ring and instant-warped right back to Windhurst

My first attempt at running with deodorize + sneak + invisible resulted a bit disasterously. The sneak wore off and I was aggroed by bats, knocking off the invis. Had to run past about 30 various Yagudos, several at least conned as EM. Second attempt, I cast only Sneak, then Invis. The Invis wore off before I got there, but I waited until I was clear of any Yags, then recast. Manually took it off when I was at trapdoor. Rest was easy as pie.
Cut-Scene
# Jun 01 2004 at 8:42 AM Rating: Decent
You get a cut scene when you have the ring on you and talk to Kohlo-Lakolo. They go to the House of the Heros during the cut scene. After the cut scene is over, you hear the trumpets sound letting you know you've completed the quest. You DO NOT have to trek all the way to the House of Heroes after this for another cut scene.

Also, during the Rank 5 mission, I had to go back to the castle to get one of the Magicites. I ended up falling through the trap door and obtaining the ring at that time, thus I was able to do this quest afterwards without having to go back.

I spent atleast an hour wandering the area of F-8, thinking it would be there. I only being Level 25 so far kept getting attacked by bats, I wasnt sure why seeing as this says I should be able to do this quest.

Now that I have read over the posts I understand better and will bring a party on my next attept and actualy go into the castle.

Thanks to everyone that posted actual information it was a big help. This is one Allakazahm tip page that needs some helpful beating.

In order to get the ring, you can be any level and from any country, but when you're selecting the ??? you CANNOT be standing on top of the circle otherwise you fall to the next floor and don't get the ring.

Hope that helps
Things to keep in mind
# May 15 2004 at 10:53 PM Rating: Decent

FIRST: It's best to go get the ring during the Windhurst mission 3-1. If you live in Windhurst you have to go there anyway. You will need several things to get to the room with the ring. Sneak, Invisible, and Warp or Instant Warp scroll.

When you enter the trap room the only way out is by targeting the circle a second time to exit below. However, it is really hard to get back to the exit from the drop point so this is where warp comes in. Or you can just die, as I did.

SECOND: I was on the Summoner flag quest when I tried to complete this quest. So I wasn't able to see the cut scene for this quest. I decided to get all the lights for my ruby and then finish this quest. When I was done, I went back to the House of Heroes and it said it was shut. I went to the kids to get the club.

I don't know if I could have finished this quest while I was on the summoner quest but I do know I didn't see the cut scene. Keep this in mind if you have any quests that use the House of Heroes to finish/start them.
