Yes, it's important to note that you need to cross the bridge to the left side for this quest.

On the right side, there is a ??? that spawns a mob for the THF AF hat. If you're level 24 like I was at the time, DONT GO THERE. Haha.

On the left side behind the waterfall there'll be a spot called "Waterfall Base" or something like that. Trade your canteen with that. Once again, that's on the left side (you need to cross the bridge) and not on the right.

Hope it helps.

It would be nice to have in the walkthough guide up there that you need to CROSS THE BRIGE when you get to it in North Gust. Wasted time fighting the mobs there just to get to the wrong place... ><

You have to have lvl 2 fame in order to do this quest. and to get to lvl 2 fame check the guy Falco at the Steaming sheep resturant in Port Bastok if he tells you Hmmm that name sounds familar something something.. (look up Fame and how it works you can get more details there) basically do all the quest you can and then you will be able to do this quest.

Yes that may help don't talk to him just point at him then trade and see what happends. I know that some quests you only need to trade them the item they request before they give the reward.

Initially confusing to new players, of course, to recquire a trade before text about the trade, but the alternative, so far, in games is: PC tries to give NPC quest item, message "Elfname doesn't want that item". PC talks to NPC, NPC says, "give me the item" :o) One day there will be a game where you can -either- talk to them to be told the item to give -or- give them the item to be told, "thanks".

All enemies aggor and they spawn often and move both directions along the river. Often youll be resting and have two enmies come up on both sides so youll either fight or die. I'd suggest either get a party or do this at lvl 30

In Wadi, go to J-3, you'll see a geyser. This will take you off the map (you'll keep going north.) Eventually you'll zone to N.Gust. You'll be in a river-canyon. Watch out for the leechers here. One almost killed me due to his SUPER HIGH magic defense. After I cast Burn, he went down in a few nukes. Come to the bridge and cross it. Follow ledge all the way to the end. Behind falling water you can trade your canteen with ___ (forgot actual target name) in the water. Keep going into cave. Soon you'll see the monument for Selbina Quest: An Explorers Footsteps. BOOM! Two quests (err..one and a 17th of one)in one area = reward of 5k gil and added fame of course. After many attempts, I have finally completed these annoying quests. As a taru blm, it was tough believe me. I was able to solo once I got lvl 30. Most gobs will ignore you at that lvl. Good luck!!!!
I nuke to please!!

I don't know if the directions are misleading, but the "Wadi Geyser" is in the North-Easternmost Room of Dangruf Wadi. The path beyond it leads to the trench in North Gustaberg, which leads to the bottom of Drachenfall.

No agro @ Lv.40, but as a Lv.32 when I was wandering around I DID see EP-- goblins in that indoor tunnel at the North-West side of the map.

I have been trying to do this quest since level 8 and have gradually been trying it every 3 levels afterward LOL. This quest is much tougher than it seems. First its hard finding the path to the waterfall, then getting through the Goblins is even harder. Im trying to do this and the Explorers Footsteps at the same time. Now I'm level 23 and hoping to find a few people to party there with me. And yes you do need some fame in Bastok to get this quest.

If you are at the "???" side, you are at the wrong side. Go back and cross the bridge. Go forward to the waterfall direction. Eventually, you will be able to come to "waterfall base". And trade for the water.

Behind the waterfall base, there is a cave. Inside there is a stone monument, it is for Selbina Clay Tablet quest.

Ok. I`m a lvl 29 Monk. I can take down these gobs like theres no tommorow, but this is CRAZY!!! Top right of wadi is correct. I happened to run into truble when 6 gobs attacked me in Dangruf at the same time. I made a run for the zone to North Gustaberg and made it. Happened to run itno a friend on the other side. We both took down the rest of the gobs easy. Behind waterfall is the waterfall base where ou fill the canteen. In the cave beyond that is the monument used to press the clay onto. Good Luck Guys.

Like another person said before, I cannot recieve this quest. You must need Bastok fame, or maybe be a Bastok resident.

I went down there to get the monument at lvl 24. Prism Powder (to be invisible) works to a degree, but make sure you stand still as Pugils walk by, as they are aggroed by sound and willcancel your Powder. Most of the Gobs were easy prey to my lvl 24, I came across one Leecher (Or Gambler?) that was decent.

# Jan 22 2004 at 2:47 AM Rating: Excellent
I did this quest a while ago as a 31RDM with no problem of course. However I was surprised that one Goblin Leecher did aggro me along the way, so I figure I was just out of level range where most goblins won't aggro. I would say that for fighting your way through, at a minimum you need a full party of 17-18s, or a party of 3 or 4 lvl 20s. Otherwise you are going to have serious problems. Using Invis is also a viable option to complete the quest at an earlier level. I would not suggest trying to make it there solo unless you are probably 25+, and even at 25 you are still going to have to fight your way through many of the goblin mobs along the river in particular, which is going to be time consuming.

As a WHM29, all of the leechers/gamblers/muggers check as easy to me. Most of the Sand Pugils check as weak, but one checks as easy. I ended up just running through with Invisible rather than fight them, which worked fine.

While I was here, I noticed a ??? on the south side of the stream, but clicking on it just says "There is nothing out of the ordinary here". Anyone know what this is for?

hey, smell that? that's right, another bull crap post by noob trying to make himself look big.
1) you said you got on a chocobo into wadi which is something we all tried to do but never got it to work.
2) you said you ran to highland for a frsh chocobo, A) how can you get up to the cliff when every one of us who DID do the quest have to walk back the way we come from, B) Wadi is a **** lot closer to town then to go into highland, which btw highland is 2 zone away and wadi is only 1.
3) let's just say you DID get a chocobo in there, how did you manage to get your chocobo that you are riding to not run away from fire casters like gambler? J-3 is always crawling with gamblers and the narrow path up to there also fill with trigger-happy ambusers and tinkers, just because you are on a chocobo that don't mean aggros like those won't attack you.
4) for a lvl20 to do small fry quest rather then to hunt for a skull is even more sad then for lvl 23 war/mnk fighting to death against lvl19-30 linking aggros, just a thought ;)

First of all, nobody within this thread mentioned about taking a chocobo into Dangruf Wadi. At least not now (9/11/04), it may have been removed. For the record, chocobos cannot be ridden into a dungeon area or town (which would be interesting to see), only between standard zones.

Second of all, you will never take agro when you are riding a chocobo. So I don't know what you are talking about with your number 3 post. I've ridden past many quads and goobbue in the Rolanberry Fields while riding to and from Jeuno.

Third of all, your 4th statement completely and utterly makes no sense what-so-ever because evidently you have not acquired the proper English and grammer from your schooling. What does a skull have to do with level 20? That for the subjob quest at level 18, and at any rate, nobody is talking about a skull.

P.S. It helps to not sound like a complete ****** when you try to flame someone else. You lose complete credibility. Just a thought. ;)

Need directions?
# Nov 30 2003 at 11:14 PM Rating: Excellent
Here are some better directions below, and I'm assuming you have a map of Wadi while doing this.

Getting to Drachenfall is simple. Go into Dangruf Wadi, and then take all right-most turns possible until you reach the geyser that lifts you into the air, the same geyser you walk to for Bastok Mission 2's Acidity Tester. When you're on higher ground after being lifted, go far, far, far north to the top of the map area, and hit the NORTHEAST CORNER of the map that's drawn. Stop a moment and be observant; you'll see yet another geyser. Stand on it and it will lift you up to yet higher ground. From here, it's a linear path that you'll walk, and if you check your map, you will see that you are in an area not drawn on the map. There will typically be two goblins blocking the way, and more when you get on the other side.

There are goblins and pugils, all aggressive. Make sure to cross the bridge when you see it or you'll have to backtrack and cross the bridge anyways.

Indeed those were excellent directions. A few things to add:

Whether or not you have a map, just keep hugging the right hand wall. The first geyser you have to ride is in the I-8 grid. (Even without a map you can check your grid location.) After riding, continue hugging the right wall and you'll eventually come to another geyser at J-3 that you must ride. Go straight. To reiterate, once you arrive in N Gustaberg, make sure you cross the bridge that you will see. It's a pain to backtrack if you don't. Once you get to the waterfall, go behind it, and you can trade the brass canteen to the Base of the Waterfall, or whatever it's called, to receive the Canteen of Drachenfall Water. And you must go back the way you came to leave, unless you're warping back.

If you want to kill two birds with one stone, there's a quest called "An Explorer's Footsteps" given in Selbina by the mayor, Abelard, in which you must find stone monuments around the world. If you go to Selbina, he will give you clay in which you need to trade to a monument, and bring it back to him. There is a monument behind Drachenfall. Just follow the cave behind the waterfall and you'll see it in an otherwise empty room. I didn't encounter any mobs whatsoever in the short cave. And the reward for the Drachenfall monument part of the quest is 3000 gil. Not shabby, especially if you're already headed there for this quest. And after you do 15 seperate monuments, you can get the map of the Crawler's Nest. ^^

I found "???" at under the waterfall. Do you mean trade the Brass Canteen to the "???". Coz nothing happened when I traded to "???".

And I also found the stone behind the waterfall too. Easy 3000gil.

No.. I believe the ??? is even on the wrong side of the river, but I could be mistaken. If you would be standing in the middle of the river, looking at the waterfall, you want to be on the left-hand side. Where the waterfall hits the river at the bottom, there is a thing you can target called "Base of the Waterfall" or something of the sort and THAT is what you trade the canteen to. If you went to the monument, you definitely just passed the spot you needed. That ??? is for something unrelated. I don't know how you target things, but if you're on PC using keyboard, hit the 0 key (Insert key) on the numberpad to cycle through targets.. you should find it.

There isn't a minimum level to do the quest. You just need a sufficient amount of fame in order to open this one up.

The minimum level requirement given to this quest is incorrect. It is most certainly not 25 as I've gotten the quest before level 20.
Level up your subjob, noob.

You may need more fame. Try doing simpler quests to open this one up. :)

I have a question for the guy who said it's easy just run in and out. What level are you?

I finally completed this quest at level 21, but my lvl 21 whm bf died horriblely. I completed it by waiting for mobs to pass by and zig-zag my way to the waterfall, got the water. I died on the way back since I decided to make a run for it instead of waiting zig-zag back. There are about 10-15 mobs on the way to the waterfull. They hit hard (up to 50s). 2000 gil is quit nice, but this trip can also turned out to be 5000 gil if you combine it with the Selbina clay quest.

If you have sneak+invisible (or prisim powder+sneak oil), this is a piece of cake. You'll have to refresh the spells a couple times on the way in, but as long as you're smart, you'll never get agrod at all. I did it as a 25 WHM, and everything along the way con'd as easy prey or the occasional decent challenge.

It's from the mayor of Selbina. He gives you clay to make pressings of monuments left by some guy all over Vanadiel.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 17 2003 at 2:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This quest sinks. I'm 19 THF with RDM subbed and I made it all the way to the waterfall, then died to a decent challenge Pugil. I guess you have to have a group to do it, which sucks because the only reason I do quests is when I don't feel like grouping. :/

Tried to help a friend do this quest today. Once you get close to the zone from Dangruf Wadi to North Gustaberg the goblins get quite tough.

The majority were tough to very tough, and up. Once in the waterfall area there's Sea Pugils and Goblin Leechers and Gamblers. Group consisted of 18th monk, 16th warrior and 16th white mage and fights were tough but exp was good.

The directions say to go to the Geyser at J-3... That may be the problem.

So, you have to travel through the Wadi to get to the bottom of the falls? Is the area I'm looking for the "grey" tunnel on the Wadi map? Thank you for your help.

I got this quest at level 10 but died 5 times trying to do it. I don't think it can be done until level 15-20 at least without some kind of invisibility or speed potion.
