frustrating
# Feb 27 2009 at 10:09 AM Rating: Decent
this quest is just ticking me off...lvl 24/12 MNK/WAR keep getting killed around here. I have been trying to voke a single gob to me so I can heal immediately afterwards, but still get double teamed.

I am going to lvl to 25 and try this again.
here we go

Yes, it's important to note that you need to cross the bridge to the left side for this quest.

On the right side, there is a ??? that spawns a mob for the THF AF hat. If you're level 24 like I was at the time, DONT GO THERE. Haha.

On the left side behind the waterfall there'll be a spot called "Waterfall Base" or something like that. Trade your canteen with that. Once again, that's on the left side (you need to cross the bridge) and not on the right.

Hope it helps.

It would be nice to have in the walkthough guide up there that you need to CROSS THE BRIGE when you get to it in North Gust. Wasted time fighting the mobs there just to get to the wrong place... ><

Trying to get this quest but everytime i speak to him he doesnt offer the quest. Idont think its anything to do with my lvl as i am a 20/10 monk/war, could it be because i am playing on the 360 Beta version??
RE:-Black Mud
# Oct 13 2006 at 4:48 AM Rating: Decent
ur beta is not the issue. U must obtain some bastok fame n clear any quests that may b blocking it.
RE:-Black Mud
# Feb 23 2006 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
You have to have lvl 2 fame in order to do this quest. and to get to lvl 2 fame check the guy Falco at the Steaming sheep resturant in Port Bastok if he tells you Hmmm that name sounds familar something something.. (look up Fame and how it works you can get more details there) basically do all the quest you can and then you will be able to do this quest.

i know this might sound dumb but did you "trade" him the canteen?
RE: help
# Feb 23 2006 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
Yes that may help don't talk to him just point at him then trade and see what happends. I know that some quests you only need to trade them the item they request before they give the reward.
RE: help
# Aug 23 2007 at 1:47 PM Rating: Decent
Initially confusing to new players, of course, to recquire a trade before text about the trade, but the alternative, so far, in games is: PC tries to give NPC quest item, message "Elfname doesn't want that item". PC talks to NPC, NPC says, "give me the item" :o) One day there will be a game where you can -either- talk to them to be told the item to give -or- give them the item to be told, "thanks".

lvl 30 RDm....this was crazy easy. i even did it with the armor i use when i have my lvl 1 RNG damn...just run north from the entrance....
this is hard!!!
# Feb 20 2005 at 3:29 AM Rating: Default
i soloed this last night at lvl 25 and it was hard!!!! it was only by luck i was able to reach the end and make it back wihtout dying. All enemies aggor and they spawn often and move both directions along the river. Often youll be resting and have two enmies come up on both sides so youll either fight or die. I'd suggest either get a party or do this at lvl 30
Droped!
# Feb 11 2005 at 11:33 AM Rating: Decent
I got this quest went to sort my inventory and instead of sorting I accidently droped the canteen >.< is there any way I can get it back or something?

In Wadi, go to J-3, you'll see a geyser. This will take you off the map (you'll keep going north.) Eventually you'll zone to N.Gust. You'll be in a river-canyon. Watch out for the leechers here. One almost killed me due to his SUPER HIGH magic defense. After I cast Burn, he went down in a few nukes. Come to the bridge and cross it. Follow ledge all the way to the end. Behind falling water you can trade your canteen with ___ (forgot actual target name) in the water. Keep going into cave. Soon you'll see the monument for Selbina Quest: An Explorers Footsteps. BOOM! Two quests (err..one and a 17th of one)in one area = reward of 5k gil and added fame of course. After many attempts, I have finally completed these annoying quests. As a taru blm, it was tough believe me. I was able to solo once I got lvl 30. Most gobs will ignore you at that lvl. Good luck!!!!

You trade your canteen to "Waterfall Base" on the left side of the river.

I did this quest a good while ago with a few friends when I was at level 20 [we had a 30 mnk with us]. But now its a lot later and I want to do this quest again. I thought it was redoable, but when I ask the NPC he just says the same thing that other ppl are complaining about [soomthing about humes and the trade...]. Can I not redo this quest? I'd like to run up and get 2k more while waiting for my stuff to sell in the AH.

Heh, I just now did this as a Sam40 ^^;
I don't know if the directions are misleading, but the "Wadi Geyser" is in the North-Easternmost Room of Dangruf Wadi. The path beyond it leads to the trench in North Gustaberg, which leads to the bottom of Drachenfall.

No agro @ Lv.40, but as a Lv.32 when I was wandering around I DID see EP-- goblins in that indoor tunnel at the North-West side of the map.

Be careful ^^

I have been trying to do this quest since level 8 and have gradually been trying it every 3 levels afterward LOL. This quest is much tougher than it seems. First its hard finding the path to the waterfall, then getting through the Goblins is even harder. Im trying to do this and the Explorers Footsteps at the same time. Now I'm level 23 and hoping to find a few people to party there with me. And yes you do need some fame in Bastok to get this quest.

If you are at the "???" side, you are at the wrong side. Go back and cross the bridge. Go forward to the waterfall direction. Eventually, you will be able to come to "waterfall base". And trade for the water.

Behind the waterfall base, there is a cave. Inside there is a stone monument, it is for Selbina Clay Tablet quest.
Whoa

Ok. I`m a lvl 29 Monk. I can take down these gobs like theres no tommorow, but this is CRAZY!!! Top right of wadi is correct. I happened to run into truble when 6 gobs attacked me in Dangruf at the same time. I made a run for the zone to North Gustaberg and made it. Happened to run itno a friend on the other side. We both took down the rest of the gobs easy. Behind waterfall is the waterfall base where ou fill the canteen. In the cave beyond that is the monument used to press the clay onto. Good Luck Guys.

i think u need fame cuz when i tried to get the quest from the guy he said something like

"I keep humes like out of these parts or some junk like that"

Fame?
# Mar 09 2004 at 1:13 PM Rating: Decent
Like another person said before, I cannot recieve this quest. You must need Bastok fame, or maybe be a Bastok resident.

I went down there to get the monument at lvl 24. Prism Powder (to be invisible) works to a degree, but make sure you stand still as Pugils walk by, as they are aggroed by sound and willcancel your Powder. Most of the Gobs were easy prey to my lvl 24, I came across one Leecher (Or Gambler?) that was decent.

I did this quest a while ago as a 31RDM with no problem of course. However I was surprised that one Goblin Leecher did aggro me along the way, so I figure I was just out of level range where most goblins won't aggro. I would say that for fighting your way through, at a minimum you need a full party of 17-18s, or a party of 3 or 4 lvl 20s. Otherwise you are going to have serious problems. Using Invis is also a viable option to complete the quest at an earlier level. I would not suggest trying to make it there solo unless you are probably 25+, and even at 25 you are still going to have to fight your way through many of the goblin mobs along the river in particular, which is going to be time consuming.

As a WHM29, all of the leechers/gamblers/muggers check as easy to me. Most of the Sand Pugils check as weak, but one checks as easy. I ended up just running through with Invisible rather than fight them, which worked fine.

While I was here, I noticed a ??? on the south side of the stream, but clicking on it just says "There is nothing out of the ordinary here". Anyone know what this is for?

hey, smell that? that's right, another bull crap post by noob trying to make himself look big.
1) you said you got on a chocobo into wadi which is something we all tried to do but never got it to work.
2) you said you ran to highland for a frsh chocobo, A) how can you get up to the cliff when every one of us who DID do the quest have to walk back the way we come from, B) Wadi is a hell lot closer to town then to go into highland, which btw highland is 2 zone away and wadi is only 1.
3) let's just say you DID get a chocobo in there, how did you manage to get your chocobo that you are riding to not run away from fire casters like gambler? J-3 is always crawling with gamblers and the narrow path up to there also fill with trigger-happy ambusers and tinkers, just because you are on a chocobo that don't mean aggros like those won't attack you.
4) for a lvl20 to do small fry quest rather then to hunt for a skull is even more sad then for lvl 23 war/mnk fighting to death against lvl19-30 linking aggros, just a thought ;)
RE: :p
# Sep 10 2004 at 12:51 PM Rating: Decent
First of all, nobody within this thread mentioned about taking a chocobo into Dangruf Wadi. At least not now (9/11/04), it may have been removed. For the record, chocobos cannot be ridden into a dungeon area or town (which would be interesting to see), only between standard zones.

Second of all, you will never take agro when you are riding a chocobo. So I don't know what you are talking about with your number 3 post. I've ridden past many quads and goobbue in the Rolanberry Fields while riding to and from Jeuno.

Third of all, your 4th statement completely and utterly makes no sense what-so-ever because evidently you have not acquired the proper English and grammer from your schooling. What does a skull have to do with level 20? That for the subjob quest at level 18, and at any rate, nobody is talking about a skull.

P.S. It helps to not sound like a complete ****** when you try to flame someone else. You lose complete credibility. Just a thought. ;)

How did you get a chocobo into a dungeon area? They usually turn up their noses at entering them.

waterfall quest
# Jan 08 2004 at 9:02 PM Rating: Default
I did it at lvl22 with my friend who was lvl 30, we got aggroed by the pugils and gobs. Right next to teh waterfall about 5 mobs were all grouped together and not mving, so we used our two hours and prayed really hard and we barely killed them all. then we collected water and monuement inprint, worth the 5k.
