Mission Orders

Exterminate bats from King Ranperre's Tomb, and bring back proof of your deeds.

Walkthrough

Quick Walkthrough

Here's a short version for the impatient/lacking in attention span. A great, detailed version you really should read follows; consider this an outline.

For initial 1-2:

  1. Go to H-11 in East East Ronfaure.
  2. Make your way through the underground tunnel to the mazey bit
  3. Once in the bit in 'maze' kill Ding Bats until you get Orcish Mail Scales
  4. Make sure you get to, click on, and see the cutscene at the tombstone

For repeat of 1-2:

  1. Go to H-11 in East East Ronfaure.
  2. Kill Mouse Bats and collect Bat Fangs
  3. Turn in bat fangs one at a time

Detailed Walkthrough

The Gate Guard tells you about the King's Tomb and that there are reports it's been tampered with. You're sent to go and check it out and bring back evidence if it has.

The Tomb is at (H-11) in Ronfaure East... very south of the map.

A Level 5 character can take this quest by the horns and with some luck kill a Ding Bat in the second upper level section of the Tomb Zone... but will have to be very careful... or just follow others around the zone. There's always someone in there cleaning out the creatures for exp or whatnot. In part 2 there are 2 mazes one leads to something for a later quest... and one leads to a headstone. You'll want to approach the headstone and see the cut scene about 'Ron-boy' who speaks to the headstone like the king yet lived.

IF you don't see the cut scene you haven't 'completed' the mission even if you have 90 pieces of Orcish Chain Scales. After the cut scene slip back out and back to the Gate Guard.

If you decide to redo this mission you kill the Mouse Bats in the first underground section for their bat fangs. Which you can only turn in one at a time. For a Level 8 Red Mage turning in 6 bat fangs netted a full "rank 1 points" meter but did not grant rank 2. Perhaps more are needed.

Head to East Ronfaure.

Head to (H-11)

Enter zone and thus The First Upper Level Section (and maze).

Bad Guys:

The Maze is basially 'Y' shaped. Go left, right, right OR right, left, left to reach the entrance to the first underground section.

The First Underground Section is pretty straight forward.

Bad Guys:

  • Mouse Bats (varying levels BE CAREFUL. Some are easy some are potent to lethal, AND they gang up if you attack (aka social for other mousebats))
  • Goblin Thugs
  • Goblin Weavers
  • Stone Eaters (worm type... casts stone when you're in range. if you have to you can run past them and just eat the damage)

Left is mostly Mouse Bats... until a T Junction... Right is a mix of Mouse Bats and some Goblin Thugs and Goblin Weavers... then the previously mentioned T junction. You could go around the donut all day if you like if you need Mouse Bats Fangs (second time through). The respawn rate's fairly decent... even with the place's popularity.

When you continue passed the T junction the first big area might have Stone Eaters. Be Warned about their stone casting. Both can hit you if you aren't careful. From there it's mostly bare tunnel (with ambient sounds for stepping in bat guano. bleah.) with pauses for bats... and some big areas where goblins might hang out. (Again assuming someone didn't wipe the place out before you got in.)

Follow the Stairs up to Upper Area 2.

Bad Guys:

This area's been known to just be crawling with Carrion Worms, and the occasional Ding Bat flotilla. There are a mess of Goblins that will of course help each other in a pinch.

There are 2 Mazes... the one right near you... leads to a flat surface with a "???" Click point that is Underground Area 2 for a Later level quest. If you find yourself in there... turn around. Also the other cave like entrance is probably a Goblin lair. Not your goal right now either.

In the opposite corner is the entrance to maze 2... (best way is head forward from the stairs to the wall in the distance... then head left all the way until you're almost at the corner then turn left and enter the opening in the wall) and at the heart of that mini labyrinth is the Headstone of the King... just walk up and double click it like an NPC and the cut scene will start.

You may now head back the way you came, leave the tomb zone and head back to San d'Oria. The Gate Guard will reward you with some rank points and you can now try Mission 1-3 (if you're say level 11).

Second Run through you can just follow the "donut". Bat Fangs are fairly rare drops from the Mouse bats. All wings can be turned in for money (details elsewhere)

MAP DATA: Upper Level 2

  • E= Entry Point to this map
  • G= Goblin caves? "Mission 1-2" doesn't require.
  • C= Cave (of Death) "Mission 1-2" doesn't require.
  • T= Ranperre's Tomb. You must get here to get the cut scene to finish mission.

Only the turns are to scale. The distances are not. But are fairly close.

same as 1-1 mission. just talk to guard and accept. once flagged walk down to King Raperre's tomb entrance and enter. Suggested Lvl for this mission is lvl 15+. Once entered follow path with will lead you underground. follow the path lay before you and take right at every intersection. the path will lead you back up surface. from there head to H-10 where tomb is and check it to start a cut scene. once cut scene is done, start killing all bats you see and one of them will drop Orcish Mail Scales. take the orcish mail scales back and trade it back to the guard to finish your mission.

No... the ones in the tunnels don't drop the scales. The bats will appear in the main room between 18:00 and 6:00(Dusk to Dawn). Fight them then.

The two different Bat missions
# Jan 04 2005 at 8:52 PM Rating: Decent
Here's how it goes.

You take the mission to investigate King Ranperre's Tomb for robbers. You go through the whole spiel of the cutscene after targeting the tombstone once your there. You go around killing either Ding Bats or Mouse Bats to get orcish scales. Once done, you go back to San D'oria and trade the scales to the guard for that mission. Then there's another mission called Bat Hunt. This one the guard wants you to go back and then bring back a bat fang as proof you went on a bat killing spree. There's two different missions with the bats. They're similar, but different.

If I want to turn in extra bat wings/fangs, do I have to accept the mission again or can I just trade them for extra rank points? I saw something about using these items but it wasn't really explained.

Yes, you have to accept the mission again to trade bat fang for more Rank points.

You can sit in front the NPC with an entire stack of bat fang and keep accepting the mission and trading it to the NPC. I would stop when you reach a full rank bar though I don't think you lose the rank points.

Bat Fangs
# Sep 06 2004 at 3:44 PM Rating: Decent
I completed the quest just fine...but killed a bunch of bats that dropped fangs in the process. The guard took the scales, but won't take a fang. Anyone know why he wouldn't take a fang?

Thanks!
My experience.

Since I had just started a new character from San d'oria, this was next on my missions list. Basically, this mission is a bunch simpler than it reads up there. I just did it with extreme ease as a WAR14. Here are the exact steps you need to follow:

1) Talk to the gate guard, get the Bat Hunt mission. There will be a cutscene where an adventurer like yourself comes and asks about why the late Queen died. Eventually, he will walk off all mad about something or other. The gate guard sends you to King Ranperre's Tomb to investigate the tomb itself.

2) Zone to East Ronfaure and go straight south. You'll see a bunch of ruined walls. There will be an archway with a open space... this is the entrance.

3) Once you've zoned into KRT, go straight, then take a right or a left (doesn't matter, they go the same way). Go down the stairs and you'll walk into a cave. At the fork, take a RIGHT. You can take a left, but this is the shortest way possible for lazy people like myself. Follow that until you get to another fork. Take another right (this time it DOES matter, if you take a left you'll end up at the beginning). Walk until you get to a set of stairs. Take the stairs up and you'll be outside again! At the top of the stairs, take a left. Follow that top wall until you come to a junction. You can go left into a cave, or right. Take the right. Once you're at a dead end, take another right. The wall on your right side will have an opening in it. Go in. Take a left. Then a right, then another right. Once again, your right wall will have an opening. This time, there's a Tombstone in front of you! Yay!

4) Click on it to watch the cutscene. That same adventurer you saw back in Sandy when you talked to the gate guard will come to the tombstone and apollogize to Ranperre. Whatever. =P A THF (judging by his pants and gloves) will come and tell the adventurer to come with him. That's where the cutscene ends.

5) By now, you should've been killing all the Ding Bats you come across. I just killed anything and everything that had "Ding Bats" above them on the way to the tombstone. There should be a plentiful amount. As a matter of fact, just as I went to the Tombstone itself, the Ding Bats I killed dropped the scales.

6) Reverse my directions up there, and zone back to East Ronfaure. Go North, and zone into San d'oria.

7) Talk to the gate guard. Another cutscene.

8) Yay! You're done!

I hope this helps... if you found it helpful, by all means, rate my post. ^^ If it's THAT helpful, replace what you want from up top! Good luck.

Upwards of 30 seconds? That's way too long. Is rank 2 really worth all this trouble?

This quest took me about 2 hours because I forgot to get the mission before I went to the tombstone(Yes, I am stupid). A 12 warrior helped me kill things and the scales dropped after about 60 minutes since the bats are only out at night. All you need to do is be careful of the goblins and the enchanted bones and you could do this at level 6.

It is frustrating to camp for hours and not get the item you need. Patience is all I can say here. You just have to beat on the ding bats but remember they have place holders just like most games and you may need to clear out a few other mobs such as the worms to get the ding bats to spawn more frequently. This worked for me..took me about an hour to get the Orcish armor. Hope this helps a little bit. Good luck! :)

I partyed with someone and we found the item in about 10 seconds, but when i tried to lot for it, it said i could only have one item of this type, i checked my inventory and I didn't have the item already, so I through out EVERYTHING exept the equipment im using, and i even got read of some other things that I thought would interfer, I haven't had time to try again, but this is getting ridiculus.

Ok I have seen the cut scene, I have the Orcish Mail Scales, and when I attempt to trade them to the guards I get nothing. No message at all. Could someone please tell me if the is another flag for this quest. BTW if I click on the headstone again it just tells me "the water has already been changed" from the quest "Grave Concerns." I would really like to move on in the missions since I am level 18 now. Any help please send an e-mail to plato30@yahoo.com.

You can obtain the map of the tomb by completing the "Exit the Gambler" quest which starts in North San D'Oria.
