Mission Orders

Visit the faraway nations of Bastok and Federation of Windurst and receive official recognition as an adventurer.

Walkthrough

The guard sends you to talk to Halver in Northern San d'Oria. He needs you to help out at Bastok and Federation of Windurst embassies. You can do this in any order.

Bastok

If you chose to start in Bastok, go speak with Pius in the office of the President. If you have done Federation of Windurst first, you will need to speak to the San d'Orian Consulate Savae E Paleade before going to see Pius.

You will be sent to Palborough Mines to get some Mythril Sand. First, check the Auction House to see if there are any Mine Gravel for sale. If so, buy it. If not, talk to Grohm in Metalworks and he will give you three Pickaxes. Just in case, you should buy some extras. They are sold by Boytz in Bastok Mines or at the Auction House.

Note: You must talk to Grohm to get a cut scene to be able to complete this mission.

In Palborough Mines at (F-7, first floor), you will find the Mythril Seam. Use the Pickaxe on the Mythril Seam until you get a Mine Gravel. (obviously you can skip this if you bought the gravel)

Once you get the gravel, find the Refiner on the third floor at (I-7). Trade the Mine Gravel to the Refiner and the machine will begin to work. Head to the machine on the second floor and pull the lever. You should receive an oz. of Mythril Sand. You can take a shortcut back to Bastok by jumping into the boat on the third floor.

Trade the Mythril Sand to Savae E Paleade.

Next, it's off to Federation of Windurst!

Next head to the ambassador in Federation of Windurst. He sends you to a tower in Windurst Walls to get a key. Zone into Heaven's Tower and speak to Kupipi to get the key and head off to Giddeus. At this point, you will need a full group. You can buy a map of Giddeus in Windurst Woods.

When you get to Giddeus you want to go to a burning circle located at G-12 in the southwest corner. Get ready for battle. Head into the circle and a dragon will appear. You need to defeat the dragon. After you do it, report back to the ambassador and then back to the guard and you gain rank 3 and 3,000 Gil.

Federation of Windurst

If Federation of Windurst is first, then you need to take a shield offering to Uu Zhoumo, the Yagudo NPC guarding the treasure room in the lowest part of Giddeus, then you have to fight Zhuu Buxu the Silent and retrieve 2 Parana Shields and trade them to the San d'Orian consulate. They tell you to go to Bastok next where you will get tossed around to different people until you are told to go into the mines. Go with a party to the 3rd floor and head towards the burnt spot on the map, and you will zone into the next part where you will find the burning circle. Then kill the Black Dragon and see the cutscene, head back to the San d'Orian consul in Federation of Windurst, they will complete you for their part and you just need to head on home to complete the mission.

Note that this mission is given in all three kingdoms, so you can group with anyone and still complete it.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Wind Dragon

I just completed this quest last night. We fought the Windy dragon. We did it with a War/mnk Rdm/War and Whm/??. Don't know what or if the Whm had a sub since his data was hidden. We all were at the cap though. We all used our 2hrs but we still made it.

I plan on fighting it with my brother when I lvl my Drg up to 25. It is at 14 now so it won't be to long.

Hard to find indeed
# Apr 22 2004 at 6:11 PM Rating: Decent
I decided to wait til I was a lvl 25 PLD to do this mission.....as it was said before, the hard part of it seems to be finding members willing to help. The worst part is, Ballista is starting and only rank 3+ can join in on the fun, so you can see how screwed those rank 2 people(myself included) are that wanted to participate.

If anyone on Odin wants to help out anytime within the few days, /tell me, my characters name is the same as my username here.

Last Night (4-21-04) Our group on Quetzacoatl beat the old record for killing the Black Dragon. The old time was 7 minutes flat and our time was 4mins 45 seconds great job to our group and good luck to all its an easy easy quest just make sure you group to kill the dragon and have your level 25 equip if you are gonna be capped by this one. Good Luck and feel free to look me up on the Q.

7 minutes was the record? Last dragon kill I did we beat in under 3 1/2, and we only had 5 in the party. At the time, 2 minutes flat was the record for the dragon in Pal Mines, also on Quetzalcoatl.

As far as sleeping the dragon, have a bard or black mage. Bard uses 2-hour and Foe Lullaby, or black mage uses Elemental Seal + Sleep.

I was just reading this script, and i must say a party would be very helpfull (i found this out on my own). So, if any one is wanting to do this mission, and has taken part in the windurst mission first, we can meet in San Doria, or Bastok to kill this thing (i'm a warrior/monk)in the palborough mines. I will be on around 0630 PST. If interested look me up by the name "kase".......or send me a tell. Any other help would be appreciated.

i am rank 2 and didn't do the davio mission but i have max rank points, caped because i not rank 3. My guess is that you need more rank points, try doing the orcish axe quest more or trading in more crystals

I have a level 50 drk friend who never did this mission. Anyone know that if we both do the mission, when we get to the dragon, will he be able to fight it with me? and if he will, will he be as a lvl 25, or will he be his regular level. thanks in advance

All the older posts have pointed out that the dragon, like any BCNM, will delevel you if you are over the level cap (in this case 25).

You will return to your lvl25 stats, spells and skills (watch what your combat skills drop to especially), and I hope to god you have on equipment that's suitable for a lvl25 character because if you don't that stuff is removed.

Furthermore, getting help to kill the dragon is easily more difficult than actually killing it. A party of 4 level 25 characters is actually plenty as long as one of them can withstand a lot of damage (in other words, a tank) and you activate a high-damage 2hr like Chainspell, Hundred Fists or Mighty Strikes (or all three).

The catch is the other eligibility requirements. To help you fight the dragon someone must fit ONE of the following categories:

a) They are rank 3 or above. This means they've already killed the dragon and can reenter the burning circle to help someone else out. Note that people in this position must enter the Burning Circle AFTER the person who's on the quest, so don't freak out if they can't enter the circle right away. You have to go in ahead of them.

b) They are on this exact mission and have to kill this exact dragon. If someone from San d'Oria is Rank 2, on this mission, BUT CHOSE TO DO A DIFFERENT CITY FIRST, they CANNOT enter the burning circle. That is, if his dragon is in windurst and yours is in Bastok, you cannot enter each other's burning circles until one of you has beaten your dragon already.

I spent hours gathering parties to kill my dragon and then additional hours helping someone else kill their dragon. It's a really cool fight, but the investment of time is huge (especially if you end up cursed) so ask NICELY for help when doing this one, or arrange well ahead of time the party that's going to help you out, keeping in mind the restrictions above.

Each city has a mission for rank 3 that ends with a dragon fight. If you are from San d'Oria going to fight the Windurst dragon, people from Bastok that are doing there mission who are also up to the point of fighting THE SAME DRAGON will also be able to party with you, and likewise if you are fighting the Bastok dragon, Windurstians ready to fight that dragon can also fight it.
Dragoon Vs. Dragon

Do you think a lvl 25 Dragoon can solo the dragon? And if not how much help would he need.

I wouldn't personally. I just did the Windurst dragon part last night with a full party and the lvl 24 in our party along with two others were killed.

It's not just the dragon you have to kill anyway. There's also this little ugly flying guy that you've gotta take out. It's best if you can put the dragon to sleep and then take out the other first. We tried that of course, but the dragon resisted the sleep spell and our BLM didn't see that.

In any case, the three of us that were remaining used our two hours and got lucky.

There are two map vendors in Bastok. Rex in the Port (J-7) and Karine in the Markets (H-9). I don't know if either of them sell maps to Palborough. I just got the info from this website.

Re-Mining?
# Feb 17 2004 at 9:30 PM Rating: Default
Crazy Question: I'm a level 21 WAR, decided to partake this mission...

I put the gravel in the machine, then tried to get down... I got lost (no map, heh...), and was ambushed by 3 Quadav, who linked with 2 more... needless to say, I died, and there was no raise.

So, I respawned at Bastok, and the question is: If I go back to Palbourough, can I take the onz of mythril or whatever from the machine even though I left the area, or do I have to re-mine some gravel and start over?

Piues is in the President's Office (but you have to go thru a door to get to him his is known as the ***. President or something). Then you go to the Craftsmen's Eatery and talk to Grohm and he will tell you what to do. and all of this is in a weird building you could walk right past it and not know it.
